Many people love to travel; some are drawn to the tranquillity of hill stations, while others find joy along the sea's edge. Across India and around the world, beautiful beaches attract both domestic and international tourists who come to relax, sunbathe, and enjoy the view.
Naturally, beachwear comes in all styles. However, not all tourists dress appropriately for public spaces. In some cases, foreign visitors are criticised for wearing revealing swimwear not only on beaches but also in public areas like marketplaces, which can cause discomfort or offence to others.
France Issues Warning Over Swimwear In Public
A recent example of this growing concern came from France, where the mayor of Les Sables d'Olonne, Yannick Moreau, issued a public notice discouraging indecent dressing.
In a Facebook post, he stated that anyone found walking 'half-naked" in public places would be fined €150 (approximately Rs 15,193). He added that 'respecting the people of Sablais" means refraining from walking around shirtless or in swimwear outside the beach.
The warning, he noted, stemmed from increasing levels of public indecency and declining standards of hygiene and etiquette.
It is important to note that nudity at these beaches is not equivalent to obscenity, and specific codes of conduct apply.

What About India?

At least four people died and several remain missing after a cloudburst triggered flash floods and a debris slide in Dharali village near Kheer Gad in Uttarakhand on Tuesday. Located just 10 km from the popular tourist spot Harshil in Uttarkashi district, the area was struck by sudden torrential rainfall that caused severe disruption. Multiple rescue teams, including personnel from the Indian Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire Department, and local police, are engaged in extensive relief and evacuation operations. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed that evacuation efforts were underway on a priority basis. 'The government is closely monitoring the situation. All necessary resources have been deployed,' he said. This latest incident adds to a growing list of extreme weather events that have struck the hill state in recent years, particularly during the monsoon. Just over a month ago, a cloudburst struck near the Yamunotri National Highway, triggering a landslide that destroyed workers' shelters. Two labourers were killed, and seven were reported missing. The Chardham Yatra was suspended for a day, and several roads were blocked across the region. Authorities had issued a red alert in multiple districts. A devastating cloudburst hit the Kedarnath Valley, resulting in flash floods and landslides last year in August. The situation was so severe that pilgrim movement was halted temporarily. The heavy rainfall led to multiple casualties and reminded people of the catastrophic floods in 2013. The Ghansali area witnessed a tragic cloudburst in which two people died and their son was injured after their eatery near the Nautar stream was washed away. Additionally, a cloudburst near the Bhim Bali stream caused landslides that damaged a 25-metre stretch of the Kedarnath walking path, temporarily stranding around 200 pilgrims. A cloudburst at the Khotila village, situated near the India-Nepal border, caused a flash flood on the Indian side of the Kali river. The sudden surge in water inundated homes with debris and mud, killing a local resident, Pashupati Devi. Cloudburst-related rainfall caused rivers to overflow in parts of Dehradun, Tehri, and Pauri. The Raipur-Kumalda region saw bridges collapse, while water entered the sacred Tapkeshwar temple caves along the Tons river. The Song river bridge was washed away and popular tourist spots like Kempty Falls saw dangerously high water levels. SDRF teams relocated residents from multiple affected villages.

Himachal govt to set up TIPC to attract big-ticket investments
Shimla, Aug 5 (PTI) The Himachal Pradesh government will set up Tourism Investment Promotion Council (TIPC), a single-window mechanism for fast-tracking project approvals and providing comprehensive investor facilitation to boost private investment in the sector, an official release said on Tuesday. The tourism council will serve as a dedicated platform to evaluate and approve tourism projects with an investment of Rs 50 crore and above. It will be chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and supported by an Investment Promotion Cell within the state Department of Tourism. The Council will be governed by the principles of minimum regulation, maximum facilitation, and time-bound decision-making. The initiative will help in creating a proactive system wherein the onus of project preparedness will rest with the state government, thereby significantly reducing entry barriers for prospective investors in the state, the statement said. Furthermore, except in cases involving statutory approvals (under Section 118 or environmental clearances), projects will be deemed approved if not cleared within the stipulated time frame. 'Tourism is a vital economic driver for Himachal Pradesh, contributing significantly to employment generation, income creation and balanced regional development. However, fragmented governance, slow approvals, and inadequate investor facilitation have hampered sectoral growth," a government spokesperson said. 'The state government has launched TIPC as a strategic, policy-aligned body to attract, assess and enable tourism investments in a streamlined and transparent manner," the spokesman added. The state-level apex body will convene monthly meetings to examine and approve investment proposals in a time-bound manner. India announces free e-visas to tourists from the Philippines, boosts ties
The development comes after the Philippines earlier this year announced that it will grant visa-free entry to Indian nationals Rahul Goreja New Delhi India will now offer free e-visas to tourists from the Philippines, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Delhi on Tuesday, adding that efforts are underway to launch direct flights between Delhi and Manila later this year. India has also decided to extend free e-visa facilities to tourists from the Philippines," PM Modi said while addressing a joint press statement with the Philippines President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. Marcos is on a five-day state visit to India, concluding on August 8. "This year, India and the Philippines are celebrating the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, and in this context, this visit holds special significance. Although our diplomatic relations may be new, the connections between our civilisations date back to ancient times," PM Modi said. He emphasised that both the countries have decided to elevate their relations to the status of a strategic partnership. "A comprehensive action plan has also been formulated to translate the potential of this partnership into results," PM Modi said. Under the development partnership, the PM stated that India will increase the number of 'Quick Impact Projects' in the Philippines, along with cooperation in the development of sovereign data cloud infrastructure. Defence and maritime cooperation In the defence domain, three Indian Navy ships are currently participating in naval exercises in the Philippines, marking the first such instance. A hydrography ship is also part of the mission, PM Modi said. The Philippines has been invited to join India's International Fusion Centre for maritime domain awareness in the Indian Ocean Region, he added.
