'Game of Thrones: War for Westeros' revealed at Summer Game Fest 2025

Khaleej Times08-06-2025
Despite its divisive final season, Game of Thrones continues to command an almost mythical hold over pop culture. Now, the fantasy juggernaut is returning to digital battlegrounds with a brand-new video game, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, officially unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025. Slated for a 2026 release, the game marks a bold new step for the franchise—this time, into the realm of real-time strategy.
Developed and published by PlaySide Studios, War for Westeros was introduced with a chilling cinematic trailer that instantly set the tone. Fans were treated to a dramatic showdown between Jon Snow and the Night King, culminating in the undead commander not only defeating Jon, but resurrecting him as a wight. It's a grim twist that echoes the show's most memorable betrayals—and one that promises moral ambiguity and high stakes throughout the game.
But there's a catch—or two. War for Westeros is not the open-world action-RPG many fans had long hoped for. Instead, it embraces the real-time strategy (RTS) format, which, while niche, aligns surprisingly well with the political machinations and large-scale warfare that defined the original series.
For fans of strategy games, this could be a dream come true. For others, especially those more accustomed to narrative-driven RPGs or console-based experiences, it might feel like a missed opportunity. That sense is compounded by the fact that War for Westeros is currently only confirmed for PC, leaving console players out in the cold—at least for now.
At launch, players will have the option to lead one of several major factions, including House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the Night King's undead army. The goal? Conquer the Seven Kingdoms through tactical mastery, cunning alliances, and brute force.
Both single-player and free-for-all PvP multiplayer modes are planned. In solo campaigns, iconic characters from the series will make appearances, helping anchor the RTS mechanics in familiar emotional beats. Multiplayer, on the other hand, promises chaotic power struggles between rival players, each commanding massive armies and vying for dominion over Westeros.
Expect robust unit variety—infantry, cavalry, siege engines, dragons, and even giants will all have their place on the battlefield. Strategic depth will come from how players deploy these forces, form alliances, and choose their battlegrounds, from The Wall to King's Landing and beyond.

Nicolas Cage on why his relationship with Sarah Jessica Parker was short-lived

Actor and film producer Nicolas Cage recently opened up on why his relationship with Sarah Jessica Parker was short-lived. "I cared about Sarah, but I don't think I passed the Mom test," Cage was quoted as saying by People magazine. "I recall sitting down with her and her mother for dinner at the Russian Tea Room, and I don't know if it was my blue Vanson Leather motorcycle jacket (which I still have) or my sinusitis, but I didn't hear from her again." His confession came after Parker shared on the Sunday, July 13, episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that she and Cage dated around the time of their 1992 romantic comedy Honeymoon in Vegas. Cage has been married five times, most recently marrying Riko Shibata in a private Las Vegas ceremony in 2021. The actor, whose real name is Nicolas Kim Coppola, is a father to three children: sons Weston Cage Coppola, 34, whom he shares with actress Christina Fulton; Kal-El Coppola, 19, whom he shares with Alice Kim; and daughter August Francesca Coppola Cage, whom he welcomed with Shibata on September 7, 2022. Cage's ex, Christina Fulton, sued him over their son's alleged attack. Cage is being sued by his ex nearly a year after their adult son allegedly physically attacked her. In court documents, Christina Fulton alleged that Cage ignored their son Weston Coppola Cage's mental health concerns. Weston and Fulton were allegedly involved in a verbal dispute that turned physical on April 28, 2024. At the time, Fulton denied reports that she and her son argued and instead said he experienced a "mental-health crisis" and she was trying to get him to help. In July 2024, Weston was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and then released on bond. Parker has been married to Matthew Broderick since 1997, after having their first date in 1992. They have three children.
