This Is the Most Family-friendly Airport in the World

A new study ranked 117 global airports on family-friendly amenities like play areas, nursing rooms, stroller rentals, and security options.
Several U.S. airports made the full list, but none cracked the top 20—Memphis International (MEM) ranked highest at No. 23.
Traveling with small children is no walk in the park, even under the best of circumstances. But as families on the go know, not all airports are created equal—and a new study set out to find the 10 most family-friendly airports in the world.
British stroller company iCandy recently released its Little Flyers Index, which examined 117 airports around the world and ranked them according to their kid-friendliness. Scores were determined based on factors that parents care about the most: the number of restaurants available, the number of children's play areas, the number of breastfeeding and nursing rooms, rentable strollers, family-friendly security lines, and the number of passengers who fly from the airport each year. Each airport was then given a score out of 100.
After crunching the numbers, Spain's Menorca Airport (MAH), located on the Mediterranean coast, came out on top with a score of 95. This small airport has four children's play areas, three nursing rooms, eight dining options, and a smaller number of annual passengers, making it easier to navigate than other airports.
The second airport in the top ten, Latvia's Riga Airport (AIX), has 12 restaurants, three play areas, four nursing rooms, rentable strollers, and family-friendly security. Third on the list is the Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) in Poland, which has 25 restaurants, three play areas, 19 nursing rooms, rentable strollers, and family-friendly security options.

Jan VanHere are the 10 best family-friendly airports in the world, according to the study:
Menorca Airport, Spain Riga International Airport, Latvia Warsaw Chopin Airport, Poland Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL), Canada Oslo Airport (OSL), Norway Istanbul Airport (IST), Turkey Lyon–Saint-Exupéry Airport (LYS), France London Luton Airport (LTN), U.K. Munich Airport (MUC), Germany Copenhagen Airport (CPH), Denmark
Several U.S. airports appeared on the complete Little Flyer Index, but none made the top 20. The highest ranking U.S. airport is the Memphis International Airport (MEH) in Tennessee, in the 23rd spot.
For parents planning a family-friendly vacation, airports that offer amenities designed for young children can be a major game-changer. Spending a layover at an airport with a play area could mean the difference between a totally peaceful second leg of a journey or a total toddler meltdown. A nursing station could mean the difference between a pain-free journey and fumbling in a dirty bathroom stall with an infant, a suitcase, and zero patience. Hopefully, more airports will catch on, and there will be just as many play areas as we do vending machines for eyebrow pencils.

My Go-to Comfy Merrell Hiking Shoes Are on Mega Sale at Amazon

My twin brother and I spent years growing up trying to highlight our differences and personalities. That meant avoiding twin stereotypes, including wearing matching outfits. We've carried this shared dedication to individuality into adulthood, and we still don't typically gravitate toward similar styles. That is, until one of us discovers a new travel brand we love enough to share with the other. Just take Merrell, for example: This outdoor footwear brand has been my go-to for comfortable hiking shoes for quite some time. While I've run through a few different Merrell hiking shoes over the years, the Women's Moab 3 style, which is currently on sale at Amazon, remains in high rotation in my current travel wardrobe. I always reach for them when I know I'm about to be a little harder on my feet than usual, or need an outdoorsy shoe that can stand up to dirt. In fact, I'm such a big fan of Merrell that I raved about the brand to my twin brother when he needed hiking shoes five years ago, and now, he shares my love for the brand. Jason picked out the Moab Flight—an older style that's similar to the men's Moab 3 shoes—and has been wearing them ever since. Fast-forward to this year, we visited the Galapagos together, which meant plenty of discussions on what we should pack. As we debated the best sun protection creams and bug sprays to bring on our cruise with Ecoventura, we both agreed on one thing: We'd definitely be packing our Merrell hiking shoes. These Merrell hiking shoes are designed to tackle trails with heavy debris, making them perfect for the Galapagos' varying landscape. During the trip, we hiked on rocky terrains, but perhaps our most challenging trek was on dried lava. If you've never encountered this surface before, it tends to be jagged and a bit unpredictable. I pride myself on my balance and endurance, and still almost tripped a few times. Our Moab shoes kept us comfortable and stable during the hike due to their ankle support, which helped with stability and protected us from obstacles. The sturdy outsoles, with strong traction, kept us afoot on uneven and slippery terrain. My brother and I both found ourselves reaching for our hiking shoes throughout the trip, and no matter what our trek entailed, these Merrell Moab 3 hiking shoes kept our feet pain-free. 'They were good for hiking, beach walks, walking on lava, and through mud,' my brother agreed, adding that his feet stayed dry and comfortable the entire trip thanks to the built-in cushioning and shock absorption. Plus, they're waterproof, making them perfect for destinations with unpredictable weather. When I got hit by a rogue wave during what was supposed to be a dry landing, I feared I'd be walking on squishy, wet shoes the entire day—instead, these shoes shielded my hiking socks from water and dried quickly in the Ecuadorian heat. If you, like me, can't help but judge a hiking shoe by its cover, I'm happy to report that these shoes are as cute as they are comfortable. I have the white/soft coral style, which looks more like a light pink in person. They added just the right amount of color and femininity to my otherwise earthy, neutral hiking outfits. The women's Moab 3 comes in 12 colorways, and the men's version comes in 14 colorways (I'm thinking my brother should get the Adobe Rose colorway next so our footwear can truly twin). The Merrell Moab 3 also comes in a mid-height variation with extra ankle coverage, and is available in wide widths; however, it's worth noting that there are fewer color options available in this style. I'm generally between a size 6 and 6.5 in shoes, and found that the 6.5 fit me perfectly. If you've shopped Merrell shoes before, I'd say that this shoe runs consistent with the rest of the brand's sizing. I also appreciate that they were designed to be durable and eco-friendly, and are constructed with recycled materials and leather. Unsurprisingly, my brother and I aren't the only fans of these hiking shoes. Both the women's and men's versions of the Merrell Moab 3 have thousands of five-star reviews. On the Merrell website, one shopper shared that they hiked for 30 miles while these shoes were 'brand new out of the box' and ended up with zero blisters. Another reviewer agreed, writing that they were comfortable 'right out of the box' with 'no break-in required.' Another traveler even wore them to climb to the summit of Mount Le Conte in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, reporting that the 'shoes were very comfortable and I didn't slide on the slippery, wet rocks at all.' A third reviewer who wears them to walk three miles daily with her Siberian Husky wrote, 'I particularly like the roomy toe box and the deep lugs on the soles.' Whether you're looking for extra support for your daily walks or need a sturdy sneaker to hit the trails in, you can't go wrong with the Merrell Moab 3 Hiking Shoes. And while the shoes are on sale at Amazon, it's the perfect time to grab a pair for your fellow hiking buddy, too. Looking for more options? Read on for five similarly popular hiking shoes that will help you tackle any type of terrain, starting at $45. Love a great deal? How to Create a Family ‘Bleisure' Trip

Many parents who have flexibility to work remotely are stitching together summer family travel with work trips. This combination of business and leisure travel — known as 'bleisure' — targets the mismatch of parents with limited time off and kids who are out of school. A Deloitte 2025 summer travel industry study found that one-fourth of American workers traveling with kids said they planned to work during their longest trip of the summer — and they plan to extend those trips by an average of three days. Balancing work responsibilities with a change of scenery and activities for kids can offer respite from the daily grind, and it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Some people extend business trips, catching up with family after meetings. Many travelers crash with loved ones to cut costs, while others sublet their homes while they're on the road. Here are tips on managing work while getting away with family. Set expectations with your employer First, check your organization's remote work policy. Many companies have adopted norms, including dedicated work-from-anywhere periods, and 'summer Fridays' that employees can use to lengthen a weekend trip. Ask colleagues who have worked from the road for tips. Speak with your manager about your plans, including the working hours you'll be keeping. Come prepared to discuss dates, the duration of the experiment if it's a new one for your workplace, and your manager's priorities and concerns. Be prepared to make some trade-offs, as these more flexible ways of working can require concessions from both sides. Before the trip, try to set up meetings at your destination. If you work for a large organization, see if you can get face time with colleagues in the area. And you should make your availability and whereabouts clear to colleagues through Slack updates and out-of-office responses if you're taking weekdays off. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

U.S. Tightens Visas, Oyo Enters Australia and Europe Flies Bigger and Farther

Today's pod looks at the U.S.'s latest attempt to scare away visitors, Oyo's latest acquisition, and Europe's longer flights. Skift Travel Podcasts Good morning from Skift. It's Tuesday, August 5. Here's what you need to know about the business of travel today. Some visitors to the U.S. might face a new financial challenge. The U.S. plans to require bonds of up to $15,000 for some tourist and business visas under a pilot program slated to start on August 20, reports Associate Editor Rashaad Jorden. The 12-month program would give U.S. consular officers the discretion to require bonds for travelers from countries with high rates of visa overstays, according to a Federal Registry notice published on Monday. The notice said the rule is a key part of the White House's efforts to tackle threats posed by visa overstays and deficient screening and vetting. The State Department estimates that 2,000 travelers will be required to post the bond. Officers are expected to set the bond at $10,000, but they can increase that figure to $15,000 if they don't believe it's enough to ensure a timely departure. Listen to This Podcast Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Youtube | RSS Next, Indian hospitality company Oyo has bought Australian short-term rental platform MadeComfy in a deal valued at more than $50 million, reports Asia Editor Peden Doma Bhutia. Oyo's acquisition represents its entry into the Australian and New Zealand markets. MadeComfy currently manages more than 1,300 properties with nearly 100 real estate agencies. Bhutia writes Oyo's goal is to expand MadeComfy across Australia and New Zealand and possibly into other countries where Oyo already operates. Finally, new data has revealed that flights in Europe are getting longer and planes on the continent are bigger, reports Airlines Editor Gordon Smith. The average flight distance in Europe hit just over 1,000 nautical miles last year, according to air traffic control organization Eurocontrol. Although the 2024 figure is a modest increase from the previous year, Smith notes it's part of a much larger structural shift as domestic and regional routes are in decline. In addition, the average maximum take-off weight of an aircraft jumped to just over 90 tonnes, up from both 2023 and 2018. Smith notes the increase is a sign of airlines emphasizing larger planes over regional jets.
