Police have assured that enough security arrangements have been made to ensure the Rath Yatra procession takes place smoothly and safely. Arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das
Tensions between India and Bangladesh have grown since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was removed from power last year. The new leader, Muhammad Yunus, has made several remarks against India, which led to strong responses from New Delhi.
During this period, Chinmoy Krishna Das, a prominent religious figure, was arrested in Bangladesh. A case was filed against him and 18 others at the Kotwali police station in Chattogram on October 30 last year, accusing them of showing disrespect to the national flag of Bangladesh.
He serves as the spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote.
His arrest led to widespread protests by his followers across Dhaka and other parts of the country. In Chattogram, the protest took a violent turn when Assistant Government Prosecutor Saiful Islam Alif was killed in a knife attack, just hours after Das was sent to jail.
Later, on April 30, Chinmoy Krishna Das was granted bail.
Chinmoy Das has actively spoken out in support of major changes, such as introducing a law to protect minorities, setting up special courts to fast-track cases related to minority persecution, and forming a separate ministry to handle minority affairs.
Originally from Satkania Upazila in Chittagong, he became well known at a young age for his powerful religious speeches, earning the title 'Shishu Bokta' or 'child speaker.'
From 2016 to 2022, Chinmoy Das worked as the divisional secretary for ISKCON in Chittagong, a branch of the Gaudiya Vaishnav tradition. However, he was removed from the position in 2024.

Dimple Yadav faces backlash over mosque visit, Muslim cleric demands apology
New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) Lok Sabha member Dimple Yadav has found herself at the centre of a religious controversy after attending a political meeting inside a mosque, drawing sharp criticism from Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, the National President of All India Muslim Jamaat. The meeting, reportedly held inside a mosque with SP leaders including Dimple Yadav, has sparked outrage among sections of the Muslim community. Maulana Razvi, in a strong statement, told IANS, 'Dimple Yadav should have been mindful of her attire and the sanctity of the mosque. Her appearance without a dupatta was an insult to the religious sentiments of Muslims.' He added that the mosque is a sacred place for worship, not politics, and demanded an apology from Dimple Yadav and the SP leadership. Calling the incident 'shameful', Maulana Razvi also targeted Mohibullah Nadvi, the SP MP who facilitated the meeting. 'He must apologise to the community for turning a mosque into a political platform,' he said. The cleric further criticised Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party's National President, Swami Prasad Maurya, accusing him of consistently disrespecting Sanatan Dharma. 'He had once burned a copy of Ramcharitmanas while he was in SP. Many of us, including myself, demanded his removal, but Akhilesh Yadav refused,' Razvi said. He noted that Maurya eventually left SP and floated his own party a year later. Razvi said that Swami Prasad Maurya repeatedly makes statements that hurt the sentiments of other religious communities and that his presence in political discourse is dangerous for communal harmony. The alleged political meeting inside the mosque has created a political controversy, and the BJP has blamed SP for using religious sites for political gains. Notably, the Samajwadi Party has strongly denied the allegations with both Akhilesh and Dimple Yadav rejecting claims of a political meeting and dismissing the controversy as an attempt to distract from pressing national issues.

Can govt appoint trustee of Banke Bihari temple, HC asks UP govt
According to the amicus curiae, 'The temple is a private temple and the religious practice is being carried out by the heirs of the late Swami Hari Dasji. By the issuance of the ordinance, the government is trying to take control over the temple through the back door.' The amicus curiae apprised the court that according to the ordinance, there would be two kinds of trustees of the board — nominated trustees and ex-officio trustees. The nominated trustees will be the seers, gurus, scholars, mathadhish and mahants etc. from the Vaishnav tradition as well as followers of the Sanatan Dharma. Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal, after hearing amicus curiae Sanjeev Goswami, fixed July 30 as the next date of hearing on a petition filed by Pranav Goswami and another. Prayagraj (UP), Jul 23 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has sought a reply from the Uttar Pradesh government on whether it can appoint its officials as trustees of the Banke Bihari temple in Mathura, a private temple, by the issuance of the Uttar Pradesh Shri Bankey Bihari Ji Temple Trust Ordinance, 2025. However, he raised strong objections as to the seven ex-officio trustees, who are officials like the district magistrate, the special superintendent of police and the municipal commissioner of Mathura, which he said would amount to a back-door entry by the state government in the private temple. 'The creation of such a trust amounts to intruding into the Hindu religion by the state government. The Constitution does not provide for the State to practise any religion and take control of any temple,' the amicus curiae said. The court, in its order dated July 21, sought the state government's reply and observed, 'The matter requires consideration. Hearing to continue. Put up this case as fresh on July 30, 2025. By that time, the state government would respond to the argument which has been raised by the amicus curiae. PTI COR RAJ RC This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
