Oliver Tarvet toasts the ‘most special day' after impressing Carlos Alcaraz
It might have seemed like some kind of fever dream to most of us, but the 21-year-old mixed it with the five-time grand slam winner before succumbing to a 6-1 6-4 6-4 defeat.
'It's not every day that you get to play against maybe the best player in the world,' said the right-hander from St Albans.
'So yeah, it was really important for me going into the match to enjoy it, enjoy the opportunity.
'I think I did a pretty good job of kind of enjoying the moment and trying to also play some good tennis at the same time.
'I kind of knew that the first set might be difficult because it's not a stage that I'm used to.
'Even though the first set scoreline was 6-1, I still had break points in three games. I definitely had chances. I think that should give me confidence that I was competing.

'Credit to him, he plays the big points just incredibly well. That's the difference. You kind of feel like you're in the set, you lose it 6-1, it's tough.
'But yeah, even though it was not the result that I wanted today, it was definitely the most special day of my life.'
Tarvet will not see much of the £99,000 he has earned for coming through qualifying and reaching the second round as he is still a US college student playing under national association rules.
But he certainly gave Alcaraz a run for his money, breaking the two-time Wimbledon champion's serve twice.
Alcaraz, now on a 20-match winning streak after his title successes in Rome, at the French Open and at Queen's Club, was full of praise for his opponent.
'I told him just congratulations for the run, keep it going, keep working hard,' he said.
'It seems like he's a really nice guy and a really nice, hard worker. It seems like he loves tennis. He played with such a good passion out there, that is really important.
'How far he can go, I don't know. If he chooses to stay in college, the level that we can see in college is pretty high.
'Let's see, if he keeps working hard, if he keeps practising hard and playing in a professional level, I think he can go far.'
Elsewhere in SW19, teenage sensation Joao Fonseca brought hundreds of rowdy Brazilian fans to Court 12 and delighted them all by beating American Jenson Brooksby 6-4 5-7 6-2 6-4 to set up an all-South American clash with Chile's Nicolas Jarry.
Russian 14th seed Andrey Rublev dropped the opening set against South African Lloyd Harris, but hit back to win in four and will face Adrian Mannarino of France in round three.

We saw him in the Euros final, when Rodri came off. Very good player, tactically really good. He's good on the ball, really good awareness in midfield. Gyokeres is a really good striker. I think a striker is more important than getting Madueke in first. But my message to the players and to the club is that I just want players that are happy to be with us. The ones that are not happy, they are free to go. Noni has been very good during the season." Djokovic names two Wimbledon 'favourites' after learning quarter-final opponent
Novak Djokovic insists he is not the favourite to win Wimbledon despite others suggesting he is - instead highlighting defending champion Carlos Alcaraz as the ones to watch out for Novak Djokovic has cooled suggestions he is the man to beat at Wimbledon - instead citing defending champion Carlos Alcaraz as one of two "favourites" to claim the top prize at SW19. The former World No.1 has lost the last two finals at the All England Club, both of them to the Spaniard. Djokovic is again into the last eight after seeing off Alex de Minaur on Sunday, despite losing the first set, but has backed some of his rivals to be ahead of him in the pecking order. Djokovic sees Alcaraz and three-time Grand Slam champion Jannik Sinner as the two men to beat. They just played out an epic in the French Open final with Alcaraz winning in five sets, but the level of tennis left everyone stunned and they sit as the top two seeded players. Despite that the veteran 38-year-old has been cited by his former coach Goran Ivanisevic as the one they all need to watch out for in London. He claimed Djokovic was "the best grass-court player" - which is backed up by his seven championships - but the sixth seed insists others are ahead of him. The Serbian said: "I love Goran, and I'm happy he loves me back, but I don't think I'm a favourite against these guys at the moment. I think they are, both of them. "But I do probably have my best chance here against them here, yeah. If it comes down to me facing one of them or two of them, which I hope so, it means I would proceed to the final and then yeah, I'll obviously look for my best game to win. I do think have a chance. There's no doubt about it. I think my results on grass even in the previous years are a testament to my confidence on this surface. "I've been playing some really good tennis this year. So I feel good about myself. I feel confident. I feel motivated to go all the way. Let's see what happens." Djokovic hasn't won a Grand Slam since he won the US Open in 2023. Last year marked only the second time in 14 years where he didn't win one. It means he's looking to end what is, by his high standards, a hefty drought as he eyes more history. The Serbian will face Flavio Cobolli in the next round but his last four opponent is likely to be Sinner. Only recent at Roland Garros did Sinner beat Djokovic handsomely in the semi-finals. The Italian though survived a scare when he was handed a walkover in a match against Gregor Dimitrov in which he was two sets behind on Sunday. Pedro details Maresca's message on his role at Chelsea after £50m transfer
Chelsea have spent big again this summer and Joao Pedro is set to be their next debutant after joining from Brighton in a £50million transfer and being thrust straight into their Club World Cup squad Joao Pedro revealed how he stepped off the beach in Rio to become a world champion. Incredibly, Brazil striker Pedro, 23, was sunning himself on holiday last week and is now set to play in the Club World Cup semi-final in New York. Pedro actually even revealed that he hired a personal trainer because he was aware of Chelsea 's interest and wanted to be in top physical condition so he could fly to the United States. Chelsea striker Pedro, who moved to Stamford Bridge in a £60m switch from Brighton, made his debut in the quarter-final win over Palmeiras just 48 hours after signing. And he is now ready to go after flying from holidays in Brazil to join up with Enzo Maresca's Chelsea squad in the United States. 'I was in Brazil on holiday with my friends, on the beach and Brazilian food is nice and spending time with my friends,' said Pedro. 'I was in Rio but I had a personal trainer and I trained as well so I was ready. "Imagine if I didn't train and Chelsea called me to come then it would be more difficult for me. I was on holiday with friends and family but I made sure I was ready. I knew Chelsea had an interest in me so that's why I was training harder and when they called me to come here I was ready, not 100 per cent but ready enough to come here and train. 'I made my debut and I think I showed I am ready and now I hope to play [against Fluminense]. It was a great experience so let's see. I always give 100 per cent and I think I took my opportunity and why I came here to play. If I'm going to start or not, it's not my decision but I will try to improve, be ready for Enzo and if he needs me.' Pedro actually started his career with Fluminense, then went to Watford before his £30m move to Brighton and now he is Chelsea's latest signing. It has been a sharp learning curve but Pedro insists that he is ready for the step up and challenge of playing in the Champions League next season. Chelsea now face Pedro's first club and Blues legend Thiago Silva who is 40 and still going strong for Fluminense. He said: 'When I left Watford I was in the Championship, then I went to Brighton, if you watch the group stage of the Europa League I was top scorer and I'm ready for a new challenge. That's why I joined Chelsea. 'Of course Fluminense will be special because I spent a lot of time and years there, I grew up there and it will be an unbelievable experience but now I play for Chelsea so I need to focus on my team and who plays better will win the game. Thiago Silva is a legend in my country, I have a lot of respect for him but now he plays for the other side!' Pedro knows he will have to battle it out with the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap for a regular starting place at Stamford Bridge. Delap is suspended for the Fluminense semi-final after getting two yellow cards in the tournament but the competition does not worry Pedro. And he says he offers something different. He added: 'Every team has a different style to play, Delap has a style, Jackson another and I have my way. But I think it's good for Chelsea. I would say I am a striker. I like to play as a number nine. But also I like to feel free on the pitch. And that's what Enzo said to me: 'Play like a number nine but come deeper to link up with the other players.' 'I am a very technical player. I like to score as well. I play like a nine, but I also have the mind of a ten as well. This combination will be good for my teammates and for Chelsea." 'I think who brings more good things to the team is going to play. Everyone will have to work hard and then Enzo will decide. He is a very good coach , very intelligent and he tries to make it easy for us. I feel very comfortable. The guys are very welcoming and helpful to me. I'm very grateful to be here, to be at Chelsea so, yeah, very happy.'
