2025 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds: Joey Chestnut Overwhelming Favorite

Fox Sports4 days ago
Joey Chestnut will return to Coney Island for the 2025 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest after being barred from last year's event.
One of the legends of competitive eating, Chesnut won the event for the first time all the way back in 2007.
What can we expect from the Major League Eating star?
Let's take a look at the odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of June 30.
2025 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest winner
Joey Chestnut: -2500 (bet $100 to win $10.40 total)Patrick Bertoletti: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)James Webb: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)Geoffrey Esper: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)Nick Wehry: +3500 (bet $10 to win $360 total)
Field (any participant not listed): +6500 (bet $10 to win $760 total)
Oddsmakers see Chestnut as the overwhelming favorite at -2500 to win the Mustard Belt. The other top contenders — Patrick Bertoletti, James Webb, Geoffrey Esper and Nick Wehry — all have odds totals ranging between +1500 to +3500, drastically lower than Chestnut's.
Year after year, Chestnut has dominated the competition. The 16-time Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest champion achieved an impressive streak by winning the event eight consecutive years from 2007 to 2014, and after losing in 2015, he bounced back to win eight straight titles.
However, Chestnut encountered a setback in 2024 when he was banned for accepting a sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods, a competitor of Nathan's.
In Chestnut's absence, Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti seized the opportunity and won the 2024 competition, eating 58 hot dogs and buns, becoming the first men's champion other than Chestnut since 2015. With +1500 odds, Bertoletti sits second on the board.
Next up is Geoffrey Esper, who entered last year's contest as a favorite but lost to Bertoletti with 53 hot dogs eaten. Esper has had three consecutive runner-up finishes to Chestnut.
Chestnut became the all-time winningest hot-dog eater, setting a personal best and world record by devouring 83 hot dogs during a matchup with Takeru Kobayashi on September 2, 2024.

PETA plans to make presence at Joey Chestnut's comeback in Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

Joey Chestnut's return to Coney Island on the Fourth of July may come with somewhat of a wrinkle. Chestnut was ineligible to compete in last year's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest following a dispute stemming from his signing with Impossible Foods. However, with weeks to spare, the sides all worked out a deal to get the GOAT of competitive eating back in Brooklyn on Independence Day. However, Chestnut will be joined by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). In a press release sent to Fox News Digital, PETA said that "Tommy Tofu and his PETA pals will be right there at Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, distributing hundreds of tasty vegan hot dogs as they challenge hungry spectators to enjoy a free, flavorful Fourth that is also animal-friendly." "Vegan hot dogs are delicious and kind, and who really wants to support slaughterhouses -- the word is enough -- by buying what comes out of them," PETA executive Tracy Reiman said to TMZ. "PETA encourages everyone to let freedom ring for all by leaving animals in peace this Fourth of July and beyond." Chestnut has actually dealt with a protester during the competition before. About halfway through the 2022 event, protesters rushed the stage — at least one wearing a Darth Vader mask — while carrying signs that read "Expose Smithfield Deathstar." Smithfield is a major food processing company out of Smithfield, Virginia, specializing in pork products. Nathan's Famous is an all-beef frank. All with a cast on his leg from a ruptured tendon, Chestnut put a protester in a headlock and dropped him to the ground. He still managed to put down 63 dogs and win the event convincingly, although he claimed it cost him five wieners. Last year, PETA planned to "bombard the competition's spectators" and brought a truck to encourage fans to go vegan. Chestnut is, obviously, the overwhelming favorite for Friday's event, as he has won 16 of the last 17 contests he has competed in, only losing to Matt Stonie in 2015. His record is 76 dogs and buns. Any non-alcoholic beverages are allowed, but only water is given. If competitors bring their own beverages, they are limited to 13 cups. Competitors can separate the hot dogs from the buns but must eat an equal amount. If an uneven amount is eaten, the lower number is the competitor's score Competitors are allowed to dunk the hot dog and bun in a cup for as many as five seconds. No utensils are allowed. Eaters are allowed to break up the hot dogs but must do so with their hands. Any eater who vomits during the competition is disqualified. The competitor with the most hot dogs and buns eaten within 10 minutes wins.
