Kamal Haasan and Shah Rukh Khan have worked together in the 2000 epic historical film 'Hey Ram'. The film marked SRK's Tamil debut, and was written, directed and produced by Kamal Haasan. Last year, Kamal Haasan revealed that Shah Rukh Khan did not charge any fee for his role in the bilingual film.
'When we work together, we are all just people. I don't see a superstar. He doesn't see a super director. We are friends. Shah Rukh sahib made that film for free. That cannot be done by a superstar. That can only be done by a fan. A connoisseur of art and a good actor. I'm ever thankful to him," he said.
Meanwhile, after Shah Rukh Khan's win at the National Film Awards, he shared a video, expressing his gratitude to his fans, directors and family for their unwavering support.

Kareena Kapoor Made 'Big Mistake' Rejecting Priyanka Chopra's Aitraaz Role, Likes Things Easy: Producer

Last Updated: Suneel Darshan revealed that Kareena Kapoor for the first choice for Priyanka Chopra's Sonia. Veteran filmmaker and producer Suneel Darshan has revealed that Kareena Kapoor was the first choice for Priyanka Chopra's role in Aitraaz. However, Kapoor opted for the heroine's role instead of the antagonist's role, as female villains were seen as vamps. However, Darshan thinks that she made a big mistake, and lauded Chopra for her attitude. Darshan mentioned that Kareena Kapoor prefers the easy way. 'There are times when actors miscalculate," Darshan told Bollywood Bubble. 'At that time, a negative role was still viewed as something like a vamp. And the fact that Priyanka was cast alongside Amrish Puri as his wife, so it felt more like a Shashikala-type role," he added. Darshan mentioned, 'You know, like the ones Shashikala or Bindu used to play in older films. But with time, narratives change, and so do perspectives. And I thought to myself, my God, Bebo (Kareena) made such a big mistake." He said, 'But Bebo is Bebo. She always wanted to glide through everything easily. She lost out on that role because she chose not to do it. She picked the heroine's part opposite the hero. She could have taken Priyanka's role, too, but she didn't." Darshan lauded Priyanka Chopra for choosing the role and said, 'Priyanka was at a stage where she was on the rise. She was the go-getter. Whatever she wanted, she went after and got it. And that role justified something that wasn't considered normal, it made you believe in it." Aitraaz is a 2004 Indian Bollywood thriller directed by Abbas-Mustan. The movie stars Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, and Priyanka Chopra in pivotal roles, and it explores themes of sexual harassment, power dynamics, and morality in a corporate setting. Priyanka Chopra's performance as the antagonist Sonia was widely praised, marking a turning point in her career by showcasing her ability to play a strong, negative role with conviction. Akshay Kumar's portrayal of the accused man balancing personal and professional turmoil was said to be convincing and relatable. Kareena Kapoor brought emotional depth as the supportive yet conflicted wife. Aitraaz combined elements of thriller, drama, and courtroom suspense, maintaining tension throughout the narrative. The film's music, composed by Himesh Reshammiya, also contributed to its popularity. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Farhan Akhtar Says Sholay's Original Ending Had Thakur Kill Gabbar – But Censors Cut It

Last Updated: Farhan Akhtar says the original Sholay ending had Thakur kill Gabbar, but the scene was removed by censors during the Emergency. As Sholay approaches its 50-year anniversary this August 15, Farhan Akhtar is sharing some rarely heard stories about one of Bollywood's biggest cinematic moments — including a completely different ending that never made it to the big screen. Speaking on Prakhar Gupta's podcast while promoting his new film 120 Bahadur, Farhan recalled just how powerful the original version of the Sholay climax was — and why it had to be changed. 'The emotional core of the film was very strong, the entire narrative of Thakur plotting his revenge after his hands were cut. We get lost in the Jai Veeru conversation, but the spine of the film was the honest police officer who goes after a dacoit after he kills his family. He hires these two good-for-nothing people, and in the original ending he actually kills Gabbar. They had to change it due to the Emergency, and the original ending is now available. That is actually when he cries, after crushing Gabbar with his own feet." Farhan said his father Javed Akhtar, who co-wrote Sholay with Salim Khan, was unhappy with the forced changes at the time. 'When Dad and Salim Sahab had to change the ending, they were wondering about everyone showing up, including the villagers, the police, and the protagonists. They joked that the only person missing now is a postman. The ending and the police showing up didn't make sense to them, but they had to change it; they had no choice." Even the side characters stood out, he said, speaking of the iconic film. 'The film just leaves a huge impact on you. The way it was mounted and all the characters were fun. It wasn't as if it was just Jai and Veeru who were exciting. The jailer, Surma Bhopali, Gabbar, and Basanti were all great characters. It was a massive hit." With the film turning 50 this Independence Day, these behind-the-scenes stories are a reminder of how bold and boundary-pushing Sholay really was — even if not all of it made it to the final cut. Mukesh Khanna defends Shah Rukh Khan's National Award win: "He has been working hard for the past 40 years now..."

The recent announcement of the National Awards swept the entertainment industry with a wave of joy. Though everyone's victory is being celebrated with utmost love, the news of Shah Rukh Khan's maiden win brought a different contentment for his fans. However, amid all the congratulatory messages, some raised eyebrows on the matter, including South actress Urvashi. Urvashi herself bagged the National Award for 'Best Supporting Actress' for her work in 'Ullozhukku.' However, when it came to SRK's big win, she questioned the fairness of the jury and the criteria used for King Khan's selection. Weighing in on the matter, 'Shaktiman' fame Mukesh Khanna , during his conversation with IANS, mentioned that it is also political to say that the National Award should have been given to an actor from the South film industry. Mukesh Khanna defends Shah Rukh Khan's National Award victory 'People who are saying that Shah Rukh Khan should not have received the award for this film (Jawan) but for Swades — remember A R Rahman received the Oscar for 'Jai Ho' and not for the various beautiful songs he created in the past,' said Mukesh Khanna. 'Shah Rukh has been working hard for the past 40 years now — so what is wrong if he has received a National Award?' he added. As the news of his National Award came out, the actor expressed his gratitude through a video, where he said, 'They know my obsession with cinema takes me away from them, but they all bear it with a smile and allow me the time. So thank you very much for that. A National Award is not just about achievement. It's a reminder that what I do matters. It tells me to keep going, keep working hard, keep creating, and keep serving cinema. In a world full of noise, to be heard — truly heard — is a blessing.' 'And I promise to use this recognition not as a finish line but as fuel to continue striving, learning, and giving life. This award is a reminder to me that acting is not just work, it's a responsibility. It's a responsibility to show the truth on screen,' he quoted.
