Naga Munchetty, 50, 'plans to quit BBC Breakfast as agents approach rival stations' amid bullying row - despite hefty pay rise
Naga Munchetty is reportedly planning on quitting BBC Breakfast despite receiving a hefty £10,000 pay rise, after she was accused of bullying and hauled into a meeting over an alleged sex jibe. The BBC Breakfast presenter and 5 Live host, 50, had been spoken to by executives after she reportedly made a sex jibe during an ad break while hosting the radio show. She is believed to have used a crude slang term for a sex act and asked a colleague 'if they had ever done it'. Naga's own conduct was thrown into doubt when BBC Breakfast's editor Richard Frediani reportedly took an extended period of leave, after an internal review of bullying and misconduct allegations was opened into the show. Amid the fallout, Naga's agents has reportedly 'held talks with rival station LBC' to explore opportunities for the highly-respected journalist. A source told The Sun: 'The fallout of Richard Frediani's investigation created a stark 'him or her' narrative on Breakfast with Naga flung to the front line. 'The fact is she loves the BBC and her job but there's only so much external noise anyone is prepared to take. LBC would suit her well as the focus remains on news-led broadcasting, they take a hard line and there's far less of the fluffy nonsense involved in working at the BBC. 'Her team last week renewed historic talks with the Global radio station to see if there could be any work for her there.' A BBC Spokesperson said: 'While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously.' MailOnline has contacted Naga's representatives for comment. New figures released by the BBC on Tuesday reveal the presenter was awarded a £10,000 increase in her annual salary. It now takes her pay packet to an eye-watering £355,000 - almost double that of her co-host Charlie Stayt. Charlie, 63, has remained in the £190,000 bracket as tensions between the pair are said to be 'rife'. Naga hosts BBC Breakfast on Thursdays to Saturdays with Charlie, while Jon Kay and Sally Nugent anchor the programme from the start of the week. It was previously claimed that the show's staff are feeling increasingly 'uneasy' around Frediani, with the former Head of ITV News accused of 'shaking' a female editor while working on the show. The Mail told how Naga has also been holding discussions with Sky News in an apparent bid to leave the corporation, industry sources have revealed. In a surprise move, the presenter held talks with both broadcasters in what appears to be an attempt to escape the toxic atmosphere on the programme she co-hosts three days a week with Charlie Stayt. However, sources said the talks broke down with Sky News, with some bosses at the networks unsure about Naga's 'tough ways' and deciding against continuing negotiations. One said: 'There were quite a few discussions with both Sky and LBC but then it was decided by both that they wouldn't go any further. 'She is quite sharp and it is perhaps not what they were looking for, so it all kind of fell apart. Rightly or wrongly, Naga has a reputation for being quite tough and difficult at times – they didn't like that.' BBC Breakfast bosses were reportedly forced to apologise to Geri Halliwell-Horner after a very awkward interview with Naga and Charlie. During the awkward resurfaced interview from October 2023, Naga, caught the Spice Girl off guard as she asked: 'Do you not like being interviewed?' After the segment ended, Geri, 52, allegedly said she did not want to appear on the show opposite the pair ever again. The BBC's annual report on its top earners revealed Gary Lineker and Zoe Ball have topped the BBC rich list again this year, as the corporation acknowledged 'challenges' with its workplace culture. The 64-year-old's £1.35 million salary made him the Beeb's highest-paid star over the last year, according to the BBC's annual report for 2024/25. Radio 2 host Zoe Ball is the highest-paid woman at the corporation on £519,000, despite working part-time. She left her full-time position as the station's breakfast show host in December. Her replacement Scott Mills is on £359,999.

Naga Munchetty ‘set to quit' BBC Breakfast as agents approach rival station amid bullying row

As recently as last week, agents for the BBC Breakfast and Radio 5 presenter held talks with hard news station LBC to explore opportunities for the highly-respected journalist. It dwarfs that of her daytime show co-host Charlie Stayt, although does include her work on Radio 5 as well as on the famous red sofa. But despite the handsome rewards for her work at the BBC, The Sun can reveal she's keen to jump ship as a bullying row rages on at the flagship show. It was reported last month that Naga's team had in the past held talks with LBC and Sky News, but following the launch of a probe into bullying on Breakfast her reps launched a fresh attempt. Show director Richard Frediani was investigated by an external consultant after complaints about his 'draconian' approach and incidents of misconduct, but in the fallout, Naga's own conduct was thrown into the spotlight. A number of past complaints about her came to light as the award-winning programme's team descended into war. A source said: 'The fallout of Frediani's investigation created a stark 'him or her' narrative on Breakfast with Naga flung to the front line. 'The fact is she loves the BBC and her job but there's only so much external noise anyone is prepared to take. 'LBC would suit her well as the focus remains on news-led broadcasting, they take a hard line and there's far less of the fluffy nonsense involved in working at the BBC. Awkward moment Naga smirks during segment about being 'appropriate at work' Naga co-hosts BBC Breakfast for three days a week with Charlie. He reportedly takes home £190,000 a year, whilst colleague Sally Nugent is on £200,000 and Jon Kay, £240,000. Frediani has returned to work on the show following an extended leave of absence during the investigation. He faced two misconduct complaints, including allegedly physically shaking a lower-ranking female editor in the newsroom in 2024. The Sun revealed that Naga had been hauled in by bosses for bullying a junior member of the team, making a shocking sex gag to another, and had also faced complaints following a clash with Spice Girl Geri Horner. The source added: 'Some workers backed Frediani's tougher, more traditional journalistic approach and think the 'sofites' need thicker skin. But others find him to be a bully and have welcomed the investigation into his behaviour. 'But in a similar way, people are torn on Naga. Some find her to be a passionate advocate of others behind the scenes, whilst others find her to be just as difficult as Fredi. 'Many felt like it's going to be her or him - only one of them will emerge from this crisis unscathed. 'Naga's job talks point to the fact that she's close to admitting defeat.' A representative for Naga did not respond to a request for comment. Naga's salary was revealed by the publicly-funded BBC as part of the annual report, where she ranked behind just three other women: Zoe Ball on £515k, Fiona Bruce on £410k and Laura Kuessenberg on £395k. 4 Sally Nugent has been revealed to be on £200,000 while her Breakfast co-host Jon Kay earns £240,000 Credit: BBC

Horror moment 80-year-old woman is '10 feet from death' on Wales' highest mountain
SOS: Extreme Rescues was back on our screens and saw one woman in her 80s make a near-fatal decision as she attempted to climb Snowdon in Wales Tonight's episode of SOS: Extreme Rescues shared the harrowing tale of an 80-year-old woman, Josie, who found herself in a life-threatening situation on Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, Wales' highest peak. Josie and her husband Trevor, seasoned climbers who ascended Snowdon biannually, encountered a near-fatal experience. The BBC programme, titled Hidden Dangers, featured Josie and Trevor recounting the perilous ordeal they faced. A spine-chilling recording was played during the show, capturing Josie's desperate call to Mountain Rescue: "I'm on Snowdon and I'm stuck. I must have come off the track, and I got lost." She continued, explaining her injuries and growing concern: "I've cut the side of my head but it's only bleeding a bit," and "I'm starting to shiver now, I'm nearly 80," reports Wales Online. Rescue services were promptly dispatched to locate Josie, who was found in a "perilous" position, teetering on a cliff edge, over 100 metres from any trail. One rescuer admitted the difficulty they faced during the search, saying, "We struggled to find her on our first attempt." Trevor expressed his dread during the incident, fearing that Josie had "gone over the edge". He had set out with Josie but chose to turn back due to "horrendous" weather conditions, stating, "I said, 'It's too dangerous'," yet Josie was resolute to continue. "She doesn't like not achieving what she wants to do, she's got her own mind," he explained, highlighting her independent spirit. After waiting for two and a half hours, Trevor, without a mobile phone, made his way down to seek help, admitting, "I was really scared, to be honest, because I know Snowdon's a dangerous place,". Over four-and-a-half hours after her distress call to 999, Josie was eventually located. "I just thought, 'what have I done?'" she reflected. "I thought nobody would find me, nobody." Josie recounted how she tried to follow some individuals down the mountain, but the adverse weather conditions and her struggle to locate the path led to her becoming lost. "I stopped and looked down and thought, good God, it's nearly 3,000 feet down there," she expressed. "I thought, I'd never get back up." Following Josie's rescue, one of the volunteers ominously stated: "She was 10 feet from death." "Your age is only a number, it's how you feel," she added, receiving commendation for her fitness during the climb. Trevor was able to rendezvous with Josie at the base, leaving him immensely relieved that she was safe. After an agonising 10 hours, Josie was finally reunited with her husband, who confessed: "I broke down, I was that relieved."
