Motueka hall full of donated goods for flood victims
Local resident and volunteer Feebee Newlands said she went to the Motueka Recreation Centre on Saturday and was surprised to see hardly anyone was there.
"We've got a whole hall full of donated gifts, from bedding to shoes, to cookware, to women's wear, to children's wear, to heating, to loads of blankets and and kids' stuff to gumboots that need to go to these families in need right now in our Tasman region, and anyone else that's been affected with the floods.
"There's not a lot of families here, [but] it is for the community right here, right now. So come on down because we need people to come and grab what they need in that area."
A whole hall full of donated goods - much of it new - is sitting at the Motueka Recreation Centre.

Three helicopters fight vegetation blaze in Sheffield, Canterbury

Fire and Emergency (FENZ) was called to the blaze at Waimakariri riverbank, near the Gorge Bridge, at 9pm on Saturday. Due to its location and it burning through gorse, it was too dangerous to fight the blaze on Saturday. FENZ could not say how big the fire was, but at 2am on Sunday it was 300 by 50 square metres. A spokesperson said three helicopters and more firefighters would go to the scene at sunrise on Sunday to fight the blaze. Thousands of households regain power after outage in Wellington region
Photo: 123RF Power has been restored in Porirua after an outage affecting about 5000 properties on Saturday morning. The outage coincided with a frosty Saturday morning. Lines company Wellington Electricity said the power was cut about 9.40am due to a problem at the Mana zone substation. It said crews worked on the problem and managed to get it back on at about midday. Properties in Paremata, Papakowhai, Camborne, Whitby, Titahi Bay, Pauatahanui, Plimmerton, Porirua City Centre and Aotea were affected. MetService's website shows it wasa still, frosty morning in the area, and it was about 4 degrees Celsius when the power went out. Lines company Wellington Electricity said the power was cut about 9.40am due to a problem at the Mana zone substation.
