Lake Worth Inlet dredging project to close section of North Ocean Boulevard Wednesday

Yahoo25-02-2025
North Ocean Boulevard at Palmo Way will be closed Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the Lake Worth Inlet maintenance dredging and sand forepassing project, the town said in a news release Tuesday.
The project's contractor, Weeks Marine, will utilize Palmo Way and North Ocean Boulevard to assemble and deliver heavy machinery to the beach, according to the release.
Traffic will be routed to North Lake Way between Mockingbird Trail and Kenlyn Road. Single lane closures will remain as needed after Wednesday until the end of the project, the town said.
Traffic signage and personnel are present along North Ocean Boulevard to direct traffic as needed.
The dredge is expected to arrive at the inlet towards the end of the week and is expected to begin dredging the first week of March.
The E.W. Ellefson, a cutter/suction dredge, is expected to remove approximately 191,000 cubic yards of shoaling material from the entrance channel and the settling basins over two to three weeks, the town said, with operations set to continue 24 hours daily, seven days a week, until completion.
Dredge material will be pumped and screened onto the adjacent beach immediately south of the inlet's south jetty. "Forepassing" is the term used to describe the placement of sand further south to support natural transport.
For more details or questions or concerns regarding the project, call 561-838-5440 or email pworks@townofpalmbeach.com.

Lion Country Safari welcomes two female African lion cubs, launches live cub cam

Lion Country Safari, the drive-through park that is home to more than 85 species of animals in Loxahatchee, celebrated the birth of two African lion cubs in April, 2025. The cubs are currently bonding with their mother in a private area and are expected to make their public debut in the lion habitat in the coming months. They received their first health check on May 6, and the park's animal care staff say both cubs are in good health and developing well. The park is home to a pride of 12 African lions — five males and seven females — the largest group of its kind under human care within Association of Zoos and Aquariums institutions. The lions live in a 6-acre habitat equipped with specialized dens for birthing and daily care. The female cubs, sired by 10-year-old Vander and 5-year-old Mara, are currently unnamed. The park is inviting the public to vote for their favorite names on Lion Country Safari's website. Click here to vote For the first time in the park's nearly 60-year history, a live 'Cub Cam' has been launched, allowing global viewers to watch the cubs nurse, play, and grow in real time. Easter weekend 2025: President Trump won't visit his Florida home for the holiday

In a surprising turn of events, President Donald Trump is not expected to spend any part of Easter weekend in Palm Beach. This will be only the third weekend that Trump hasn't visited Florida since taking office, visiting his Florida home and private club, Mar-a-Lago, nine times since his Jan. 20 inauguration. This weekend is unusual because the president typically spends at least a portion of his Easter weekend at his 'Southern White House.' But this is good news for Palm Beach residents who dread the added traffic and local road closures that Trump's weekends at Mar-a-Lago bring. Here's what we know about Trump's Easter 2025 plans, the White House Egg Roll and what to know about Mar-a-Lago. No President in Palm Beach for Easter: Signs point to no Trump visit to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach on Easter weekend For the first time in years, the Trumps are not expected to spend the holiday at Mar-a-Lago, according to the Palm Beach Daily News. The president and first lady will likely spend the holiday weekend in Washington, D.C. and are hosting the 147th annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 21. Usually, when the president comes to town, the FAA issues temporary flight restrictions for the West Palm Beach area and the town of Palm Beach sends out alerts regarding local road closures. As of Good Friday, April 18, there were no plans from the town of Palm Beach for road closures in anticipation of the president's arrival. There also were no temporary flight restrictions that indicate Trump's travel to Florida. The first lady also hosted the annual White House Easter Egg Roll in Washington, D.C., on the Monday after Easter Sunday from 2017 through 2019, during her husband's first term as 45th president of the United States. When Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to President Joe Biden, Donald and Melania Trump spent every Easter Sunday at their church, Bethesda-By-the-Sea (where they were married), followed by an Easter brunch at Mar-a-Lago. Now that Donald Trump is the 47th president, he and Melania Trump will once again host the 2025 White House Easter Egg Roll in Washington, D.C. And for the first time in years, the couple will not partake in Easter activities at their Palm Beach home. In February, the first lady released initial details for the 147th White House Easter Egg Roll, which will be Monday, April 21, 2025, on the south lawn of the White House. Families with children 13 years old and younger were invited to join Donald and Melania Trump, White House staff and their families. Easter at the White House: Melania Trump to host 2025 White House Easter event The White House Easter Egg Roll is a tradition, dating back to 1878 during the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes. During the White House Easter Egg Roll, children gather on the South Lawn of the White House to participate in an egg roll, an egg hunt and other Easter activities, hosted by the sitting president and first lady. When Donald Trump was the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2020, he and First Lady Melania Trump hosted the White House Easter Egg Roll in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, there was no White House Easter Egg Roll in 2020. There also was not a White House Easter Egg Roll in 2021, with then-President Joe Biden and then-First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, due to the pandemic. When they lived there, Barron Trump, the sole child of Donald and Melania Trump, attended the White House Easter Egg Roll events along with his nieces and nephews: Kai Madison Trump, Donald Trump III, Spencer Frederick Trump, Tristan Milos Trump and Chloe Sophia Trump (children of his half-brother, Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife Vanessa Trump). Mar-a-Lago is a private club, and is generally not open to the public. The main entrance to the private club is on South Ocean Boulevard. To see Mar-a-Lago, you have to settle for just driving by. People can park and walk by, though you'll be in the roadway. It's not uncommon for people to pull over their cars to catch a view. It is, however, very dangerous because there is no sidewalk, and there's no shoulder on the side of the road. Since Mar-a-Lago is a members-only club, there are no Easter events posted on its website for the public to see. Mar-a-Lago closes on Mother's Day after the traditional final brunch of the social season and reopens on Halloween. Trump returns week after visiting all 3 of his Florida golf clubs. How to watch his motorcade

For the 10th time since he was sworn in, President Donald Trump is set to return to his home state of Florida for the weekend today, Friday, April 11. His latest visit last weekend started with a trip to Miami, then to his home and private club, Mar-a-Lago, according to the Palm Beach Daily News. Last week in particular was a big one for the commander-in-chief: Trump managed a golf trifecta — he attended, played or competed at all three of his Trump National Golf Club sites in Florida — after arriving April 3, 2025, for a four-day stay the Sunshine State. It was his ninth visit to Florida and the eighth to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach since his second term began on Jan. 20, 2025, Inauguration Day. Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, where he appeared, also hosted the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tournament on the same weekend. Also in the same weekend, protesters converged in about 1,300 Trump-Elon Musk "Hands Off, Fight Back" rallies nationwide, with 45 in Florida alone and some down the road from Mar-a-Lago. If you're keeping track, so far, Trump has spent all but two weekends of his presidency in Florida. Trump and LIV Golf match in Florida: List of family members who did (and didn't) attend Trump's primary residence is at Mar-a-Lago. During his first presidency, it was often referred to as the 'Southern White House' or "Winter White House' because of the amount of time he spent there. According to The Palm Beach Daily News and FAA temporary flight restrictions "for VIP movements" issued this week, Trump is expected to arrive in Palm Beach on Friday, April 11, make a quick Saturday evening trip to Miami, and leave from Palm Beach, on Sunday, April 13. The president typically spends Easter weekend at Mar-a-Lago, according to previous Palm Beach Post coverage, then frequents his "Summer White House" in Bedminster, New Jersey, until fall. But first, he and first lady Melania Trump will host the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 21. When he returns to Palm Beach this weekend, Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County will likely be lined with some Trump supporters, protesters and anyone else who wants to catch a glimpse of the presidential motorcade that will escort Trump to and from his Florida home throughout the weekend. Here's information about Mar-a-Lago and how to watch the presidential motorcade in Palm Beach this weekend. When the president is in Palm Beach, the roads surrounding Mar-a-Lago are shut down. "South Ocean Boulevard will shut down between the Southern Boulevard traffic circle and the intersection with South County Road, the town said in an alert sent Thursday morning. While Palm Beach did not specify what time the road will close, the town typically sends the alert about 24 hours before the road is expected to shut down," The Palm Beach Daily News reported on Thursday. "Those who live, work and are visiting homes within the area affected by the South Ocean Boulevard's closure will be allowed in after providing identification, and they can enter and exit only through the north security checkpoint at South County Road, officials have said." Trump is expected to arrive back in Palm Beach this evening, sometime after 4:45 p.m., travel to Miami sometime before 9 p.m. Saturday, April 12, and arrive back in Palm Beach the same night, sometime after 11:30 p.m. He's expected to leave Florida, from PBI, sometime before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13. More on road closures around Mar-a-Lago: South Ocean Boulevard to close April 11 for Trump visit to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach The Mar-a-Lago resort and club in Palm Beach has been the primary residence of Donald, Melania and Barron Trump since 2019. In 1985, Donald Trump paid $10 million for the 17-acre estate that is now Mar-a-Lago. It originally boasted 33 bathrooms, three bomb shelters and a nine-hole golf course. Ten years later, Trump updated the already-luxurious estate and converted it into an even more ritzy private "Mar-a-Lago Club" with a spa, tennis and croquet courts, ballroom and a beach club. The size of the living quarters at Mar-a-Lago is speculated to be somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet. The private club has around 500 members. The ballroom was completed in 2005. The Mar-a-Lago resort and club is in Palm Beach, Florida, and sits about 15 minutes from the Palm Beach International airport (PBI). If you want to see Donald Trump when he's in Palm Beach County, your best shot is to watch the presidential motorcade en route to or from the Palm Beach International Airport today Friday, April 11, or on Sunday, April 13. The president is expected to land in Palm Beach tonight, Friday, April 11, sometime after 4:45 p.m. and leave Florida on Sunday, April 13, sometime before 6:30 p.m. Watching the motorcade is kind of like watching a rocket launch lift off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center or the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Brevard County. People from Palm Beach County and beyond often line up along Southern Boulevard and wait to watch Trump's motorcade pass by. Trump supporters usually line up along Southern Boulevard going east toward Mar-a-Lago. Southern Boulevard is the main road next to PBI, where Trump typically flies into the airstrip designated for private planes. Even when he wasn't president, you could sometimes see people parked on the side of the road near the airport, looking at his private plane which said 'Trump' in big, gold letters. In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of Trump supporters would line up on Southern Boulevard to watch the Trump motorcade, which typically has from 15 to 20 cars in it. You can drive by Mar-a-Lago, too. But the property is private, so you can't visit the actual club unless you're a member. The main entrance to Mar-a-Lago is on South Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach. You can park and walk by, but you'll be in the roadway. It isn't uncommon for people to pull over their cars to catch a view of the famous club. It is dangerous, though, because there is no sidewalk, and there's no shoulder on the side of the road next to the private club. It's important to remember the roads surrounding Mar-a-Lago close when the president is in town. If you want a glimpse of his private club, you'll have to wait until after he leaves Florida. The best place to watch the motorcade pass is along Southern Boulevard, near the Palm Beach International Airport.
