
Jalandhar leads country in NITI Aayog's Aspirational Blocks Programme
₹ 1.5 crore award money will be spent on development work across various sectors in Jalandhar's Shahkot block, including health, education, nutrition, agriculture and basic infrastructure. (HT)
Deputy commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal presented the district's achievements during a video conference with NITI Aayog officials, detailing the focused interventions made to uplift Shahkot's performance across key parameters.
'This award money will be spent on development work across various sectors in the block, including health, education, nutrition, agriculture and basic infrastructure,' Aggarwal said.
The deputy commissioner attributed this success to a slew of initiatives undertaken in Shahkot over the past few months, which resulted in a marked improvement in performance indicators, making it the top-performing aspirational block in the country (Zone II).
The central government had launched the Aspirational Blocks Programme on January 7, 2023, during the second National Conference of Chief Secretaries. The programme aims to improve governance and enhance the quality of life in India's remotest and underdeveloped blocks, focusing on uplifting them through measurable and sustainable development.

Nirmal's Pembi block gets national award
Khanapur: Nirmal district's Pembi block, identified as a key performer among the NITI Aayog's proposed Aspirational Blocks, has been awarded the national-level Bronze Medal. On Saturday, during a ceremony held in Hyderabad, the award was presented by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and received by District Collector Abhilasha Abhinav. State Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, State Government Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, SERP CEO Divya Devarajan, Additional Collector Faizan Ahmad, and other dignitaries participated in the event. Out of the 500 Aspirational Blocks selected by NITI Aayog, Pembi block secured the fourth position. Officials stated that the award was given in recognition of outstanding performance across six indicators: health, nutrition, agriculture, education, infrastructure, and others. On this occasion, Abhinav remarked that securing the fourth rank at the national level is a matter of pride for Pembi block. 'This achievement is a testament to collective effort and that Pembi has transformed from an aspirational block to an inspirational one, setting an example for all,' she said. As part of the Sampoorna Abhiyan initiative, Pembi block achieved 100% performance in registering pregnant women, diabetes screening, and distribution of supplementary nutrition. It also recorded 70% progress in issuing soil health cards and 94% progress in disbursing loans to women's self-help groups, the Collector explained.

‘UP govt revamped edu sector in 8 yrs'
Lucknow: Over the past eight years, the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP govt in the state took several steps to improve the education sector in UP. Various schemes were implemented, like Operation Kayakalp, Samagra Shiksha, PM SHRI Yojana and the Prerna App, to ensure more enrolment in schools and to improve existing infrastructure, said a govt spokesperson. "This remarkable transformation was acknowledged by NITI Aayog and the govt of India as a model of effective governance and innovation. It stands as proof that with strong political will and strategic planning, even the most broken systems can be reformed," the official said. He said that the govt initiated Operation Kayakalp and schools were given targets across 19 key parameters. They have so far achieved a 96% success rate. Under this, the availability of toilets for girls increased from 33.9% to 83.3%, with 53,154 toilets for boys and 51,826 for girls constructed. There was a 30% increase in the electrification of schools, reaching 85.9%. Safe water facilities were installed in 88.5% of schools. Another 61,128 schools were equipped with furniture, and boundary walls were constructed for 51,826 schools. The govt built 4,336 new schools and renovated 7,229 schools. Library access in schools rose from 22.9% in 2010 to 77.6% in 2024. In 2024-25, the govt distributed 15.37 crore textbooks. In 2016-17, 96,700 teachers were provided training. Against this, 4.53 lakh teachers were trained in foundational literacy, numeracy, and digital teaching in 2024-25. Over 25,000 smart classes and 5,568 ICT labs were set up, and 2.61 lakh tablets were distributed. Mid-day meal coverage increased from 71.3% in 2010 to 95.4% in 2024. Enrolment of girls went up from 72,680 in 2017 to 83,584 in 2024-25. ICT labs, smart classes, dormitories, computer labs, etc, are available in 746 KGBV schools, while 718 dormitories, 514 toilet blocks and 574 computer labs were built, the spokesperson said. Currently, Rs 1,200 is being provided to each student for uniforms, shoes, sweaters, stationery, etc, he said. Under the CM model composite school scheme, two modern schools are each being built in 75 districts at a cost of Rs 30 crore per school. Under the PM SHRI scheme, 1,722 schools are being equipped with state-of-the-art technology, he said. The spokesperson said the govt is spending Rs 5,000 per school for sports and physical education. Hyderabad, Aug 2 (UNI) Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma commended the Sampoornata Abhiyaan—a targeted campaign by NITI Aayog aimed at 100 percent saturation in six critical sectors: Maternal Health and Nutrition, Agriculture and Water Resources, Education, Financial Inclusion and Skill Development,and Basic Infrastructure. In his keynote address at the Sampoornata Abhiyaan Samman Samaroh organized as part of NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks Programme, here, the Governor noted that the initiative builds upon the success of the Aspirational Districts Programme (2018) and Aspirational Blocks Programme (2023), ensuring inclusive growth at the grassroots. He appreciated the outstanding performance of districts such as Komaram Bheem-Asifabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, and blocks like Gundala, Mutharam (Mahadevapura), Palimela, Tiryani, and Narnoor, which achieved full saturation across all six indicators. The Governor lauded the dedication of District Collectors, nodal officers, and frontline workers—Anganwadi staff, ASHAs, ANMs, teachers, and SHG leaders—for their tireless efforts. He acknowledged the vital role of local institutions and elected representatives in delivering effective last-mile governance. 'Sampoornata is more than a milestone; it reflects a governance model rooted in inclusion, accountability, and empowerment,' he remarked. He stressed the need to institutionalize these gains by integrating saturation goals into annual development plans. The Governor also announced his intention to visit all Aspirational Blocks to gain firsthand insights and requested SRLM's coordination for the same. Ten high-performing blocks and their respective District Collectors were felicitated with medals and appreciations cerificates for exemplary service, innovation, and leadership on the occasion.
