Lakers Make Final Decision on Andrew Wiggins, Heat Trade

Lakers Make Final Decision on Andrew Wiggins, Heat Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Los Angeles Lakers have spent much of this offseason assessing how to reshape their roster around LeBron James and Luka Doncic. After adding center Deandre Ayton, upgrading wing depth and adding more two-way versatility have been major points of focus as they look to improve from their first-round exit last season and contend for a championship next year.

One name that kept surfacing in trade chatter was Andrew Wiggins. The Miami Heat forward, recently acquired from the Golden State Warriors in February, was said to have been a major target for LA all summer. Per ClutchPoints' Anthony Irwin, Miami fancied the possibility of trading the former No. 1 overall pick to the Lakers in exchange for Rui Hachimura, Dalton Knecht, and draft assets.

However, that speculation appears to be over after Dan Woike of the Athletic shut down the rumors for good on The Zach Lowe Show. Speaking with Lowe, who claimed he 'didn't really understand those trade rumors' to begin with, Woike responded by saying the following:
'They're not interested in Andrew Wiggins. I think I can put that to bed.'

Wiggins, who was the Heat's return package in exchange for Jimmy Butler, is coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which he averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.4% from three-point range between his stints with Golden State and Miami.
However, it now appears that the Lakers will not be looking in his direction as they perhaps continue to explore better fits to round out their wing rotation and bench depth.

Fever Coach Stephanie White's Blunt Response to Exciting Caitlin Clark News

Fever Coach Stephanie White's Blunt Response to Exciting Caitlin Clark News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Looking for their third straight win, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever visited Boston to take on coach Stephanie White's former team, the Connecticut Sun, on Tuesday at TD Garden. Advertisement In her second WNBA season, Clark has seen a drop in her scoring production from last year, averaging 16.7 points on 37.4% shooting, 4.8 rebounds and 9.0 assists per game. She is also having one of the worst 3-point shooting seasons of her career, averaging just 28.9% through 12 games. But a three-game stretch before Clark's groin injury may have cost her total average. From June 19-24, she shot 1-of-23 from distance, good for 4.3%. Still, despite the recent shooting woes, Clark accepted an invite to perform in the 3-point contest at the 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend, which will be held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (Indianapolis). The former Iowa star notably did not participate in 2024. When asked about Clark playing in the 3-point contest, White shared her response. Advertisement "She doesn't need any pointers from me," White said. "No, we haven't talked about it. In fact, I saw it on the news. But, I mean, I'm happy that she's doing it. Certainly, in the state of Indiana and Indianapolis, so it's a great opportunity to continue to showcase what she does best to our fans and WNBA All-Star fans." Along with Clark, four other WNBA stars will be participating in the 3-point contest. Those include Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron, Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray, New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu and Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum. The 2025 WNBA 3-point shootout will take place on Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET, before the All-Star game the following day. After Tuesday's game, the Fever will have one final battle before the big weekend, facing the Liberty on Wednesday. College Football Insider Names Most ‘Overrated' Rivalry

College Football Insider Names Most 'Overrated' Rivalry originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When calling to mind neutral-site college football rivalries, you likely don't go too far down the line before thinking of the feud between the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs, which has been played in Jacksonville each year since 1996. Advertisement The Athletic's Scott Dochterman tabbed the rivalry series formerly known as the 'World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party' as being the 12th-best in the nation. On Texas Football's CJ Vogel doesn't agree with that placement. 'The Top 100 rivalry article that came out a few days (ago) has me ready to fire some takes,' Vogel wrote last week on X. 'Florida/Georgia is the most overrated rivalry game in CFB.' Florida Gators head coach Billy NapierDenny Medley-USA TODAY Sports Billy Napier's program first crossed paths with Kirby Smart's in 1915. The Bulldogs lead the series 56-44-2. 'Each team has important in-state rivalries, but this ranks No. 1 for both programs and their fans,' Dochterman wrote. 'They've yet to have a top-five matchup, but the outcomes often lead directly to an SEC championship participant.' Advertisement This season's matchup between the two SEC powers will be played in Jacksonville, while they'll meet in Atlanta in 2026 and Tampa in 2027 as EverBank Stadium undergoes a renovation. The Gators have lost four straight to Smart's outfit, including a 34-20 decision a season ago. Vogel also said Nebraska-Oklahoma (No. 6) is 'meaningless to current day CFB' and the USC's series with Notre Dame (No. 5) 'feels so emotionless for a top-5 rivalry.' Dochterman's top-3 included Ohio State-Michigan (No. 1), Auburn-Alabama (No. 2) and Oklahoma-Texas (No. 3). Warriors' Fallback Option to Bradley Beal Revealed By NBA Insider

Warriors' Fallback Option to Bradley Beal Revealed By NBA Insider originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It was not too long ago since the Golden State Warriors were connected to Bradley Beal, should a buyout take place between him and the Phoenix Suns. The Warriors remain connected to the star guard, but also have contingency plans in place, if they need them. Advertisement Suns insider John Gambadoro was the one who originally linked the Warriors to Beal, listing them as one of the top teams interested in signing the former All-Star after a buyout situation. Those circumstances are ones that Beal is already preparing for. Marc Stein reported, "Bradley Beal is actively exploring his options with other teams in anticipation of a Suns buyout, league sources tell [The Stein Line]." Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal smilingRobert Edwards-Imagn Images There are notable free agents who are all reportedly waiting on the fallout from the Bradley Beal saga. Jake Fischer reported that Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Malcolm Brogdon are all subject to the waiting game right now. Advertisement Fischer wrote, "League sources say that the options for Paul, Westbrook and Brogdon are likely to be impacted by where Beal lands." The player worth paying attention to in these circumstances for Warriors fans would be Brogdon. The veteran guard has a long list of teams that hold interest, according to Fischer, including Golden State. Fischer added, "All of these scenarios, furthermore, are sure to have an impact on Brogdon. League sources say that the Wizards are open to sign-and-trade discussions to facilitate Brogdon's exit from Washington and a slew of teams have registered varying levels of interest in the 32-year-old." The NBA insider continued, "That list includes the [Los Angeles Clippers] Clippers, Suns and [Los Angeles] Lakers as well as the Warriors, [Minnesota] Timberwolves, [New Orleans] Pelicans, [Sacramento] Kings and [Milwaukee] Bucks." Advertisement Brogdon could provide a trusted option at the backup guard position for the Warriors. It would fill one of several needs still left on the team's roster as they gear up for the 2025-26 campaign.
