Mads Mikkelsen, a Norwegian tourist, was detained by US Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) at Newark Airport for five hours. He claimed the detention was due to a forged picture of US Vice President JD Vance, according to a report by the BBC.
Following the incident, Mikkelsen spoke to a local publication, Nordlys and the BBC, stating that the USCBP agents threatened to impose a $5,000 fine unless he unlocked his phone for inspection. During the search, they found a photoshopped image of JD Vance with a bald head.
Mikkelsen told the BBC, 'The agent seemed to be very antagonised by the image. He asked me why I had it saved on my phone. He went on to explain to the agent that it was just a meme, a piece of comedy. The agent responded by saying, it's very clearly a piece of dangerous extremist propaganda.'
Speaking to The Daily Star, Mikkelson said, 'They asked direct questions about drug smuggling, terrorist plans and right-wing extremism, completely without reason.' He further added, 'They demanded full information about everyone I was going to meet in the US, including name, address, phone number and what they did for work.'
Further, he also stated that he informed the agents about legally consuming cannabis in Germany and New Mexico, following their extensive questioning regarding drug smuggling, terrorism, and extremism. Additionally, he was escorted to a secured room and instructed to surrender his shoes, phone, and backpack.
Meanwhile, USCBP in a post on X informed that Mikkelsen was not allowed to enter due to drug use. "Fact Check: FALSE," they posted, "Mads Mikkelsen was not denied entry for any memes or political reasons, it was for his admitted drug use." The Department of Homeland Security has also publicly denied that Mikkelsen was denied entry because of the meme.

How a convicted paedophile staged a fake wedding to 9-year-old at Disneyland Paris

A convicted British sex offender staged a fake wedding to a 9-year-old girl at Disneyland Paris, the BBC has reported. Jacky Jhaj, 39, allegedly rented out the park after hours using a false identity and brought in a child actor to play the bride. French authorities say the girl was not harmed, but Jhaj has now been charged in connection with the event. Jhaj, from west London, was jailed in 2016 for sexual activity with two 15-year-old girls. He is on the Sex Offenders Register and subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Since his release, he has organised several elaborate events involving children, often under the guise of film productions or public stunts. According to the BBC, Jhaj booked Disneyland using a fake Latvian ID. He also flew in the young girl from Ukraine and hired actors for the event one was reportedly paid £10,000. This is not his first stunt. In 2023, he staged a fake red-carpet event in Leicester Square where children as young as six were paid to act as his fans. Similar stunts have been held at the British Museum, the Royal Exchange, and Oxford University. Jhaj often used disguises, including prosthetic make-up, to hide his identity. He also uploaded videos of these events to YouTube, where one channel had over 12 million subscribers. Many of these videos remained online for years until the BBC flagged them to Google. The BBC obtained a copy of the court order restricting Jhaj's movements. While it bars him from contacting previous victims and unsupervised interaction with underage girls, it does not explicitly prevent him from hosting public events involving children if adults are present. At the Leicester Square event, some children were accompanied by chaperones, meaning the stunt technically did not breach the order. A police officer involved in monitoring Jhaj told the BBC that he was responsible for dozens of offenders at once, and called the workload 'challenging.' National guidelines suggest one officer for every 50 offenders, but some UK forces have admitted that the ratio can be as high as one to 85. Jhaj is currently in French custody. Disneyland Paris declined to comment. The Metropolitan Police say Jhaj is wanted for breaching restrictions in the UK and is also under investigation for potential fraud. French prosecutors said the theme park had been 'deceived' by the organiser. The BBC continues to investigate how Jhaj managed to fund these expensive stunts and evade stricter supervision.

‘Britain has gone to hell': Why one of UK's richest billionaires left London and moved to UAE

The ninth richest billionaire in the United Kingdom has decided to move his business out of London to the UAE, after claiming that "Britain has gone to hell." Norwegian shipping tycoon John Fredriksen is the latest in a growing exodus of wealthy individuals from the UK capital, according to a report by E24. The 81-year-old billionaire, who owns one of London's most prestigious private homes, The Old Rectory in Chelsea, is worth $18 billion.(X/@ed_fin) The 81-year-old billionaire, who owns one of London's most prestigious private homes, The Old Rectory in Chelsea, is worth $18 billion. Fredriksen now runs his business empire from the United Arab Emirates. Speaking to E24, he openly criticised the UK's economic direction: 'It's starting to remind me more and more of Norway. Britain has gone to hell, like Norway. I try to avoid Norway as much as I can," he said. He also took aim at the UK's trade policies, particularly in relation to US President Donald Trump, calling them "completely hopeless." Fredriksen added, 'The entire Western world is on its way down. People should get up and work even more, and go to the office instead of having a home office." He is among several rich Londoners who exited the UK following the end of the non-dom tax regime, which had allowed foreign-born businessmen to shield overseas assets and income from UK taxes. Who is John Fredriksen? Born in Oslo to a welder, John Fredriksen left Norway in 1978 and carved out a fortune in the oil industry. He began his career trading oil in 1960s Beirut and moved into shipping in the 1970s, acquiring his first tankers. His wealth surged during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, when he became the world's largest owner of oil tankers, controlling a fleet of more than 70 vessels. Fredriksen is the father of twin daughters, Kathrine and Cecilie, and his family holds major stakes in oil rigs and salmon farming. In 2001, he purchased the mansion in Chelsea for £37 million, which today is valued at up to £250 million, making it one of the most expensive private homes in the UK. The ten-bedroom estate features a ballroom, indoor pool, and tennis court. A billionaires exodus Apart from Fredriksen, several other wealthy Norwegians have also left London this year, according to E24. This includes billionaires Helene Odfjell and Peter T Smedvig, who left amid a broader millionaire exodus following the UK's abolition of the non-dom tax status on April 6. The end of tax exemptions on overseas assets and trusts has sparked concern among the ultra-rich. Steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal is also reportedly leaving London due to the end of the tax exemptions, the Standard UK reported. A report predicts the UK will lose 16,500 high-net-worth individuals in 2025, the highest of any country.

Thailand: Protesters call for PM's resignation as demonstrations erupt after leaked phone call

Bangkok: After a phone call between Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and the former Cambodian leader Hun Sen was leaked, thousands of protestors gathered in the Thai capital, Bangkok and demanded the Prime Minister's resignation. Shinawatra was heard addressing Hun Sen as 'uncle' in the phone call along with making a comment on a Thai military commander handling the dispute saying, 'just wanted to look cool and said things that are not useful', which sparked public anger, also resulting a key partner in her ruling coalition, to quit. Shinawatra defended herself, saying that the call was a 'negotiation technique', while apologising. Before leaving to visit flood-hit northern Thailand, Shinawatra told reporters it is the people's "right to protest, as long as it's peaceful". Thousands of protestors gathered around the 'Victory Monument War Memorial' in Bangkok, waving flags, holding placards with slogans like 'PM is the enemy of the state', braving through monsoon. BBC reported that the rally was the largest of its kind since the ruling Pheu Thai party came to power in 2023. The Prime Minister should 'step aside' because 'she is the problem', said Protest leader Parnthep Pourpongpan. The United Force of the Land, a coalition of national activists, organised the rally. They have been seen to have protested against other Shinawatra-led governments as well for over two decades. They also read out in a statement that the executive and the Parliament were not working in the 'interest of democracy and constitutional monarchy' to the crowd gathered for the rally. The Constitutional Court will decide on Tuesday whether to take up a petition by senators seeking Shinawatra's removal for alleged unprofessionalism over the Hun Sen call, or not. Hun Sen stated that he had shared the audio clip with 80 politicians, and one of them allegedly leaked it. He later shared the entire 17-minute recording on his Facebook page, where it can be heard that the call was about a recent dispute between Thailand and Cambodia, which in turn has led to an increase in tensions between the nations after the death of a Cambodian soldier in a border clash.
