Bengals' Zac Taylor drags Joe Burrow down in QB-coach NFL rankings

Bengals' Zac Taylor drags Joe Burrow down in QB-coach NFL rankings

USA Today3 days ago
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is a top-five player at his position.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, however, is not a top-five coach in the NFL right now.
So says new rankings from Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame, which aims to list the best quarterback-head coach duos in the NFL. Burrow and Taylor land just inside the top 10 at No. 9 overall:
'The Bengals might not have much defense, but they employ a good coach and a top-five quarterback. Burrow, the former No. 1 pick, had his best season in 2024, throwing for league-bests with 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns to help Cincinnati stay in playoff contention until the final day. With Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins signed long-term, expect more fireworks for years to come.'

The problem, as one should expect, is Taylor. Burrow is fourth in his respective rankings, while Taylor is 16th.
It's a fair assessment, at least, as the debate continues as to whether Taylor should be on the hot seat and just how much leash the coaching staff should have on the goodwill of the recent Super Bowl appearance.
For now, the Bengals will be more than happy to charge forward with a tandem that lands in the top 10 alongside the likes of Kansas City, no matter how lopsided the scale.

Josh Allen's Young Bills Weapon Ranked 'Most Promising' in 2025

Josh Allen's Young Bills Weapon Ranked 'Most Promising' in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills know they almost certainly need second-year wide receiver Keon Coleman to break out if they want to fulfill their promise a Super Bowl-winning roster. Advertisement Why him? Because the Florida State prospect has all the potential in the world to be just that good ... a real, live No. 1 threat in an offense. ... as Stefon Diggs once was here. Can Keon make that jump? That will be a wideout-related question on every Bills fan's mind going into training camp later this month. The second-round pick caught 29 passes for over 500 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season of 2024. He struggled with injuries throughout the 2024 campaign, but showed massive improvements throughout the postseason. That is why Bleacher Report's Moe Moton identified Coleman as Buffalo's "most promising building block. " Advertisement Said Moton, " If the big-play wideout stays healthy in the upcoming term, he can lead the team in multiple receiving categories." Buffalo does have plenty of weapons outside of Coleman to step up if the second-year wideout doesn't make as big of a jump as the organization hopes. ... but none of those other guys has ever been a true No. 1 guy. It would therefore be massive if Coleman could make that jump. As this team's centerpiece guys age, it becomes more imperative that Buffalo gets its young talent to stand out and take over. While the Bills MVP-winning quarterback Josh Allen is the driving force, having competent skill players to assist him is essential. Advertisement That is where Coleman comes into play. If he can step up and prove he can be a No. 1 receiving threat, it may be the final piece needed to get Buffalo to their Super Bowl goals in 2025 and beyond. What is new as we await the start of training camps later this month? Below are a few stories from the last week that Cardinals fans should know about the Rams. Davante Adams sees potential MVP for Matthew Stafford Adams has spent most of his career as a teammate of Aaron Rodgers, who has won three MVP awards. Adams sees shades of Rodgers from those seasons in Matthew Stafford. Byron Young named Rams' surprise player Young has 15.5 sacks in two seasons in the NFL. He gets overshadowed by last year's Defensive rookie of the Year Jared Verse, but ESPN named Young the Rams' most surprising player of the offseason. The Rams' red flag The Rams are the favorite to win the NFC West again, but they are leaning on an aging quarterback in Stafford. His age and questions with the offensive line and its ability to protect him are seen as red flags for the Rams in 2025. New LB fitting in The Rams traded linebacker Ernest Jones last year and saw Christian Rozeboom leave in free agency. They signed former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Nathan Landman. So far, he has been a great fit. Rams just a piece away from being really special Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis talked about the Rams. He thinks they lack only an impact defensive back to be a "really, really special" team in 2025. Seahawks news: O-line questions, breaking on defense, more for Cardinals fans

We check in with the Cardinals' NFC West rival Seahawks to see what has been going on recently. Another week in the NFL offseason, so it is time to see what has been going on with the Arizona Cardinals' NFC West rivals — the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. What is new as we await the start of training camps later this month? Below are a few stories from the last week that Cardinals fans should know about the Seahawks. Bouceback year for Kenneth Walker? After a 1,000-yard rookie season in 2022, Walker's production has declined for two consecutive years. Last year, he played in only 11 games and had 573 rushing yards. PFF expects a bounceback year and a return to 1,000 yards. Questions on the O-line Every team enters the summer with questions. One of the biggest questions is the Seahawks' offensive line. But that should surprise nobody. White throwbacks coming The Cardinals never wear throwback jerseys. The Seahawks will, though, this year. They will wear throwback white unis sometime this season. Breakout year from defense expected The Seahawks were bad defensively most of last season but then played much better in the second half of the season. The Athletic expects the defensive to break out in its second season under head coach Mike Macdonald. Surprising surprise player Every team has offseason surprises. For the Seahawks, it was guard Anthony Bradford. He is not expected to start on the offensive line, but he could push for a starting job in camp.
