Indian Express21 hours ago
The State Investigation Agency (SIA) Saturday filed a chargesheet against 11 people including 2 Pakistan-based terrorists – Hizbul Mujahideen supremo Syed Salahudeen and Basharat Ahmad Bhat – on charges of funding terrorism through cross-border narcotics smuggling.
The FIR, initially lodged in 2022 at Police Station SIA, Jammu, pertains to a cross-border narco-terrorism and terror financing network involving Pakistan-based terrorist organisations and their networks operating in J&K.
The investigation in the case uncovered a well-organised network of terrorist associates and couriers aiding Hizbul Mujahideen by facilitating smuggling of narcotics and raising funds for the terrorist outfit, officials said. This network, as per the investigations, have emerged as a major channel for terror financing in the region.
Several of these individuals involved have amassed significant wealth through drug proceeds, despite having negligible legitimate sources of income, officials said.
Accused individuals were allegedly key dealers responsible for distributing narcotics among local youth, officials said. Some reportedly employed the other accused for selling narcotics to their clients, they added.
The investigation points to a larger conspiracy spearheaded by Pakistan-sponsored Hizb-ul-Mujahideen to destabilise the peaceful atmosphere of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir by facilitating terrorist activities. Further investigation is going on to identify and apprehend additional individuals involved in the network.
The Pakistan-based terrorists named in the chargesheet are Hizb-ul-Mujahideen head Syed Mohammad Yusuf Shah alias Syed Salahudeen, son of Ghulam Rasool Shah, a resident of Bonapora, Soibugh, Budgam district, and Basharat Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat and a resident of Chowdhry Bagh, Kremshore, Khan Sahib, Budgam. The latter also owed allegiance to Hizbul Mujahideen, the SIA said.
One of the accused, Khalid Hussain, a resident of Ujhan Margan of Rajouri district's Darhal area, is currently living in Jammu's Rehmat Colony of Channi Himmat area.
The chargesheet also named Harpreet Singh, a resident of Nanak Nagar, Jammu; Mohd. Shokit from Phambranar Gursai, Mendhar in Poonch district; Javid Ahmed Rather, a resident of Thokarpura, Budgam; Manzoor Ahmad, a resident of Pamposh Colony, Palpora, Tehsil Eidgah in Srinagar district; Chain Singh from Chak Chua, Bishnah, Sahil Kumar from New Rehari, Jammu; Asif Rehman Reshi from Banapora, Batmaloo, Srinagar, and Sandeepak Singh from Green Avenue Lane, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.

Hamas government office rejects US accusation of involvement in Gaza aid site attack

A Hamas government media office rejected accusations by the US State Department that the group was involved in a Saturday attack that injured two Americans at an aid distribution site in Gaza, it said on Sunday. The US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation said on Saturday the injured American aid workers were receiving medical treatment after a grenade attack caused non-life-threatening injuries. A representative for UG Solutions, a North Carolina-based company providing security at GHF's aid distribution sites in Gaza, told Reuters on Sunday that the injured Americans were employed as private security contractors. The contractors were former US special forces and did not open fire after they were injured in order to avoid risking harm to nearby civilians, the person said. The Hamas-run media office described the US accusation as misleading, saying it was aimed at justifying 'the continued killing and starvation of Palestinian civilians'. 'We categorically and unequivocally reject the claims issued by the US State Department alleging that the Palestinian resistance threw explosives at American personnel operating at sites run by the so-called 'Gaza Humanitarian Foundation – GHF,' it said in a statement.

Debock MD had fought LS election in 2019: ED

1 2 Jaipur: Mukesh Kumar , chairman and managing director of Debock Industries Limited, contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur seat on a Shiv Sena ticket. During his campaign, he enlisted Rakhi Sawant as a star campaigner, but he only received 4,600 votes and secured seventh place. This was revealed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which concluded its raids at the Jaipur-based company. Mukesh also introduced himself as Mukesh Manveer Singh in business circles of Rajasthan and other parts. ED officials said that there could be a possibility that Mukesh aimed to conceal his financial scams exceeding Rs 100 crore by entering politics. "Presently, we are only investigating Rs 100 crore scam, though we are aware of some of his previous cheating cases lodged at various police stations in Jaipur." TOI obtained a copy of the 2019 Tonk-Sawai Madhopur election results in which Kumar received 4,600 votes and lost his security deposit. During that time, Kumar invited Rakhi Sawant as a campaigner and organised a vehicle rally at Sawai Madhopur too. Regarding his name, the ED authorities said that it is not clear why he was changing his name from Mukesh Kumar to Mukesh Manveer Singh. "Many times, people use this trick to avoid their debts. He was introducing himself as Mukesh Manveer Singh in the business circles of Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan," the officer said. Meanwhile, ED raids resulted in the seizure of Rs 78 lakh, four luxury vehicles, and property papers as proceeds of the Rs 100 crore scam. "A few other things are on our radar. A few properties at Chaksu and Tonk could also be the proceeds of crime. We will urge people not to invest in this group or its properties," the officer said.
