Live art, Eid festival, and club night make for triple weekend fun

Yahoo20-06-2025
A trio of community events - an Eid festival, a live art event, and a club night harking back to a musical "golden era" - took place last weekend.
The events were delivered by The Leap, the community-led arts and culture programme covering the Bradford district.
One of the events was the Bradford Eid Festival.
Held in Peel Park, the festival attracted more than 35,000 people and featured food, music, and dance, as well as craft stalls, Nasheed singers, henna artists, and storytelling areas.
The Leap's UK-Pakistan Truck Art Project, an art installation blending traditional Pakistani truck art with contemporary, local designs, also featured.

The project was developed by artists from both the UK and Pakistan, working with young people and families in BD3.
Another event that took place was Statuesque, hosted at The Beacon in Bowling Park.
The live art event saw Naomi Parker and her troupe, known as Chicks on Sticks, perform as living statues.
The event, which was created in collaboration with local schools and emerging artists, also included craft workshops and a carnival parade.
A Bhangra Legacy Daytimers event, organised by Moss Sheikh and Mick Chandsoor, also took place during the weekend.

It celebrated the "golden era" of Bradford's South Asian club scene with DJ sets, archive footage, and live performances.
Daytimers DJs from the 1980s and 1990s were present.
Zulfiqar Ahmed, director of The Leap, said: "This weekend was Bradford at its best – creative, bold, and connected.
"Every event, from the beats of Daytimers to the stunning Pakistani truck art, showed what's possible when culture is led by the people who live it every day.

"The Truck Art project, in particular, was a proud moment – blending heritage and innovation in a way that only Bradford can."
Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, leader of Bradford Council, said: "It was a great weekend.
"Wonderful to see so many local people out enjoying cultural activities on their doorstep.
"It's exactly what we wanted the Creative People and Places programme to do through The Leap - bringing opportunities to enjoy arts and culture to the people, rather than expecting them to search it out.
"The council is pleased to support the investment in The Leap, which has enabled the Arts Council to invest significantly in the organisation since its foundation."
The Leap is funded by Arts Council England and Bradford Council as part of the Creative People and Places network.

Hunt is on for most faithful Teessider as event inspired by hit BBC TV show coming to Middlesbrough

A Teesside version of BBC's The Traitors is coming to the area. Middlesbrough-based Teesside Hospice has launched a new event inspired by the popular game show – and is on the hunt for the most faithful Teessider. 'Teesside Traitors' will see 20 people come together and compete for the title of Teesside's most faithful in the new event, which is modelled on the hit BBC series and will take place on Friday, October 10. Held at Project Escape in Middlesbrough, participants will complete missions and test their strategy skills in a range of deceitful activities – all while trying to hunt out the traitors from the faithful. Community and Events Manager Tilly Roberts said: 'If you're a fan of the Traitors show in particular, this event is not one to be missed. King Charles Is "Fuming" Over Prince William and Kate Middleton Moving Houses Again

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Kate Middleton and Prince William might be ditching Adelaide Cottage for an even fancier spot on the Windsor Estate named Fort Belvedere, and apparently King Charles isn't thrilled. According to Rob Shutter's #shutterscoop (via Yahoo!), King Charles is "fuming" over the cost of William and Kate's proposed move. As a palace source put it, "It'll take millions to renovate. Charles sees it as an unnecessary extravagance." However, William and Kate are said to be enthused about the move, with an insider explaining "They've outgrown Adelaide Cottage. Fort Belvedere has it all — history, land, and proximity to Eton." Wills and Kate have moved quite a few times over the years. They kicked things off at Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace—right in the heart of London—before relocating to their country home, Anmer Hall. Then they left Anmer Hall for Adelaide Cottage in 2022, so this new move is coming not even three years later. As for Fort Belvedere, the Daily Mail describes it as a "a magnificent gothic-revival mansion nestled in a hidden corner of Windsor Great Park." Their source notes that Wills and Kate "feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial. This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis." FYI, the 18th century mini castle is where Edward VIII lived before he abdicated the throne, and has a slew of amenities—including, but not limited to, an outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court, a rose garden, a greenhouse, private stables, some casual lakes, paddocks, and multiple staff cottages. SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Officially Brings in Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Michael Mando as Scorpion — GeekTyrant

Spider-Man: Brand New Day just leveled up in a big way. With production about to kick off, it's been officially confirmed that Mark Ruffalo and Michael Mando are joining the upcoming Marvel Studios film, and it sounds like both will play key roles in the story. Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk, a role he's been crushing since The Avengers . From Thor: Ragnarok to She-Hulk: Attorney at Law , he's been a consistent force in the MCU and it's awesome to see him now enter Spider-Man's corner of the universe. Mando returns as Mac Gargan, the character he first portrayed in Spider-Man: Homecoming . But this time, he's expected to go full villain and finally become the Scorpion. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gargan will be a major part of a big action sequence set to be filmed in Glasgow, Scotland. Word is that he's being transported in a DODC convoy when he's suddenly targeted by The Punisher. That's when Spider-Man jumps into the fray. Fans will remember Gargan's brief appearance in Homecoming , where he tried to pry Spider-Man's identity from The Vulture after getting seriously injured. He's presumably been locked up ever since, and while we don't yet know how he gets his Scorpion gear, it sounds like we'll finally see him unleashed. The film is shaping up to be an intense street-level brawl, and Marvel is clearly bringing in a strong mix of characters for that vibe, which include Jon Bernthal's Punisher. As the outlet notes, 'You can bet that, in the mighty Marvel manner, Spider-Man, Punisher and Hulk will all fight one another before figuring out who the real bad guys are.' Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently offered some insight into the direction of Spider-Man: Brand New Day , and it's exactly what fans hoped for after No Way Home reset the character's world. "I think there's a promise at the end of No Way Home , that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. 'Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with, for lack of better terms, street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events." He added, "So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we've never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic." Feige also teased what's inspiring the movie's direction: "That great cover. I don't want to say too much, but Destin, I will say too much, Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he's got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool." Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton ( Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ) and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Liza Colón-Zayas. The film swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
