Legendary Scots DJ in race against time after devastating brain tumour diagnosis

Daily Record5 days ago
Keith McIvor, best known to fans as JD Twitch, recently revealed a terminal glioblastoma diagnosis, prompting a heartfelt fundraising appeal for his urgent care.
A Scots DJ behind one of the Glasgow's most iconic club nights is facing the fight of his life after being diagnosed with an 'extremely serious' brain tumour.
Keith McIvor – best known to fans as JD Twitch – is one half of the pioneering duo behind Optimo (Espacio), a staple of Glasgow's club scene for over two decades.
He recently revealed to supporters that he has been diagnosed with terminal glioblastoma, a fast-progressing and incurable form of brain cancer.
A fundraiser has now been launched to help cover the 56-year-old's urgent care needs as the disease begins to take its toll on his speech, mobility and independence.
Keith's family say he now needs round-the-clock nursing care and has been moved into a private residential facility to ensure his safety and dignity, reports GlasgowLive.
"This gives him a safe, supportive environment while we continue to explore the best long-term setting for his care," the crowdfunder states.
In a heartfelt update on his condition, friends and family wrote: "While Keith's condition is extremely serious and likely to progress quickly, he's not currently in pain, can communicate well with patience, and is still present as the Keith we know and love.
"He can now connect to those most important to him in a better environment – with a determined group of friends and family around him, ready to do whatever we can to help him with what he wants and needs.
"This new living environment is unlikely to be necessary for a long time, but obviously we can't know exactly how long it will be at this stage.
"We still hope that Keith can look forward to many happy days ahead, in comfort and with his loved ones, to live out the remainder of his life in dignity and conscious of all the support and good vibes flowing toward him for as long as possible.
"Navigating this situation has been incredibly hard for Keith's family — especially his wife, who lives with serious long-term health issues that affect the care she's able to provide.
"We've held off to examine all options, but now believe this crowdfunder is the best way to channel people's goodwill in a concrete, transparent way and show them they can make a direct impact.
"It's also the easiest route for us to keep everyone regularly updated about Keith's progress, as we focus our energies on doing the best for him that we can in the remaining time that he has left."

The online fundraiser has already raised over £54,000.
Donations will go toward paying for Keith's residential care, as well as vital physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, counselling and accessible transport.
Organisers say access to many of these services through the NHS or charities is 'limited.'
The crowdfunder adds: "Keith thanks you for all of your kind words and support, and we'll continue to strive to do the very best for him at every stage, as he moves forward in his journey."

BBC 'masterpiece' period drama based on 'greatest book of all time' leaves viewers speechless

The BBC period drama is based on a very famous novel and has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. A BBC TV adaptation of a very famous novel has caught the attention of impressed viewers who have branded it a "true masterpiece". There have been several adaptations of Charlotte Brontë's famous 1847 novel Jane Eyre, but one in particular has left fans raving. ‌ The BBC's adaptation of Jane Eyre follows the early life of the titular character, who is raised as a poor relation in the household of her aunt, Mrs. Reed. Jane receives cruel treatment from her aunt and cousins and is put into an orphanage. ‌ When she is old enough to work, she is hired by the housekeeper of Thornfield Hall, Mrs. Fairfax, to be a governess for young Adèle (Cosima Littlewood) at the country estate. However, when she becomes entangled with the brooding master of Thornfield Hall, Edward Fairfax Rochester, his dark past threatens to destroy their relationship. ‌ The four-episode show, which hit screens in 2006, is directed by Susanna White and written by Sandy Welch, the Express reports. Ruth Wilson stars as Jane while Toby Stephens portrays Edward. The cast also features Lorraine Ashbourne, Pam Ferris and Andrew Buchan. ‌ The BBC series was a hit with fans and dominated the 2007 award season, scooping up a BAFTA and three Primetime Emmy Awards. Jane Eyre currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It is based on Charlotte Brontë's book, which is widely considered to be one of the greatest novels of all time. Praising Brontë's work online, one wrote: "Everyone should be a fan of Jane Eyre, it's the greatest novel ever." ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! It is now my favorite. If you're thinking of reading it, do not hesitate and read it immediately because you'll regret the moments you spent without reading this masterpiece!" A third chimed in: "This is easily a five star book for me. I love the way that this is written— beautiful, descriptive, and brilliant. ‌ "Some may take the descriptive aspect as a weakness, but for me, it was an important addition to the emotional impact of the book. Story wise, I have no words. The angst of the plot will keep you going." Someone else wrote: "Jane Eyre (greatest novel of all time IMO". A fifth penned: "Marvellous!!! It really was and still is one of the best novels of all time." ‌ The series has also received similar levels of praise with one viewer declaring: "Okay but the 2006 BBC masterpiece Jane Eyre is…… I don't know, a perfect series." A second said: "I highly recommend Jane Eyre from 2006 or 2007 with Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson, a true masterpiece." Another impressed fan questioned: "Is there a show out there that can possibly contend with the BBC 's 2006 miniseries masterpiece Jane Eyre? unlikely." ‌ Someone else commented: "This is the most beautiful adaptation of Jane Eyre. The acting is all round superb. "Eyre and Rochester are full of soul, something lacking in other depictions that only focus on the seriousness of the characters, often failing to portray their passion." Expressing their admiration for the show, a fifth added: "This show did not need to be this well done. They could've left it to be like other book tv show adaptations… yet they delivered!!! "They understood the assignment and did the extra credit!! They knew it could be the greatest, and aimed higher!! Loved the acting, loved the set, the music, the directing!! Everything is so good!"

‘I'm not a fan of hero movies, but the world needs to listen to Superman 2025'

In a world where governments are turning a blind eye to Israel's genocide in Gaza, Superman's anti-war message is revolutionary. James Gunn's new Superman movie starring David Corenswet has been making headlines this week for its 'punk' and anti-war message. Released in UK cinemas on July 11, the film has taken the world by storm, already reaching nearly £300 million in the worldwide box office. ‌ And while avid superhero fans were a guaranteed audience for the new film, which has gained an impressive 83 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, there's a reason the movie is attracting a wider audience. ‌ As someone who doesn't generally care for superhero movies, I was gobsmacked by James Gunn's in-your-face anti-war message, which drew chilling parallels with the current state of global politics. ‌ Especially in the context of Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which over 60,000 people have been murdered, Superman 2025 offers a message most of us learn as toddlers: 'Killing people is bad'. The movie sees Man of Steel Clark Kent come under fire from government officials and the public after he stops fictional country (and US ally) Boravia from invading their neighbouring state Jarhanpur. ‌ Following the hero's halting of the invasion, US tech billionaire Lex Luther orchestrates a smear campaign against Superman, branding him an alien that interfered with foreign affairs without permission. In the end, we discover Luther had orchestrated the conflict between the two fictional nations in order to get rid of Superman and make colossal profits from providing arms to the dictatorship of Boravia, led by a tyrant who orders the death of every Jarhanpurian. Sound familiar? ‌ Of course, good triumphs over evil and the nation of Jarhapur is freed from its invaders, with the help of Superman's hero pals including journalist girlfriend Lois Lane and Hawk Girl, who gives the dictator of Boravia his comeuppence. While the film is of course fictional (there's a man with laser-vision flying around in a cape, after all), many online have been quick to note the film's parallels to current affairs. ‌ Although Israel is not mentioned once in the film, many are deeming the film as 'anti-Israel' and 'pro-Palestine' on social media, given the similarities between Israel's war crimes in Palestine and the villainous state of Boravia. And it's not hard to imagine the real-life leader who may have inspired the old-man dictator of Boravia either. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! To me, it's no coincidence this extremely anti-war film has come out now, as Gazan men, women and children are killed every day from orchestrated starvation, or shot dead at 'aid distribution' centres. But whether you believe there was real-life inspiration for the film or not, it can't be doubted the world needs to acknowledge and cling on to Superman's message. Although many governments continue to ignore Israel's war crimes, Superman acts as a beacon of hope the world will eventually come to its senses.

David Mitchell's emotional confession about relationship with wife Victoria Coren

Comedian David Mitchell has been happily married to Victoria Coren for over a decade. Comedian David Mitchell has lifted the lid on his relationship with now-wife Victoria Coren, which he discusses in his memoir 'Back Story'. The Peep Show actor confessed to being "hopelessly in love" with Victoria, who he says initially rejected his romantic advances. ‌ "I was hopelessly in love. I told no one about it," he reveals in his book. "I didn't tell my closest friends or my parents of the enormous sadness that overshadowed my life." ‌ The adoration he felt for Victoria lingered in silence until she finally consented to a date with him years later. ‌ "I waited three years. Isn't that weird? Aren't I odd? I can't explain it other than to say I couldn't do anything else," he reflects in his writing. "If only I'd known I just had to wait three years... I would gladly have suffered ten times as much." Although he was suffering, the star kept his anguish well-concealed behind his humour. "The problem is, I hate the sort of dating thing," he admits, reports the Express. "I just find it incredibly awkward... I don't dislike being single enough to put myself through the pain." ‌ David and Victoria, now host of BBC's Only Connect, instantly hit it off at their fatefully timed meeting during a Halloween party in 2007, having been introduced by fellow comedian David Baddiel. Victoria confessed: "He specifically said to me, 'There's David Mitchell over there, I think you should probably marry him, I'll get the ball rolling by introducing you. I thought that was ridiculous but, a couple of hours later, I thought I would probably marry him," as reported by MSN. ‌ Initially, Victoria brushed off the suggestion, but by the end of the night, she was sold on the idea. Despite their instant connection, it took several years before they embarked on their first official date, as the timing wasn't right. ‌ Victoria was still grieving the loss of her father, Alan Coren, who died from cancer in 2007. David patiently bided his time, never pressuring his now-beloved wife but always nurturing the hope of a shared future. Their first official date eventually happened in 2010, and they tied the knot in 2012. David has never shied away from expressing his deep love for Victoria. "I am just incredibly proud that someone like Victoria wants to be with me," he declares. ‌ "She has these amazing qualities, but fundamentally, we clicked. I fell in love with her." In his memoir, he portrays her as "too wonderful" and "too right for me." The couple celebrated the birth of their two daughters - Barbara Elizabeth in 2015 and June Violet in 2023.
