ENG Vs WI: West Indies Fined For Slow Over-Rate In 1st ODI Against England
The West Indies have been fined for a slow over-rate during the first one-day international against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Thursday. Shai Hope's team was found to be one over short of the required target.
Match Referee Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel imposed a fine of five per cent of their match fee on each West Indies player. The ICC stated that Hope's side was one over short after time allowances were taken into consideration.
The sanction is in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences. The ICC statement added that, as per regulations, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl in the allotted time.
West Indies captain Shai Hope accepted the proposed sanction, so a formal hearing was not required.
advetisement
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Martin Saggers, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Graham Lloyd.
England secured a comprehensive 238-run victory, posting 400/8 thanks to half-centuries from Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Jacob Bethell.
The West Indies were subsequently bowled out for 162 as Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton claimed three wickets apiece.
England will be without all-rounder Jamie Overton for the remainder of the white-ball series. He has been ruled out due to a broken right little finger. Matthew Potts has been named as his replacement and is poised to make his tenth ODI appearance for England.
The second ODI between the two sides takes place in Cardiff on Sunday. A victory in Cardiff would guarantee a series win for England with one match to spare.

ENG vs IND: Ben Stokes dismisses Yashasvi Jaiswal moments after intense war of words
England captain Ben Stokes landed a decisive blow on Yashasvi Jaiswal, dismissing the in-form Indian opener just moments after a heated on-field exchange on Day 1 of the second Test at Edgbaston, England captain, sensing the need for a breakthrough, brought himself into the attack and struck immediately. Tempting Jaiswal with a wide delivery outside off, Stokes drew a loose slash from the left-hander, who had taken similar risks earlier in his innings. This time, though, he only managed to feather an edge through to Jamie Smith behind the let out a primal roar, charging across the outfield in jubilation. It was a moment that broke a threatening 66-run stand with Shubman Gill and halted India's charge. Jaiswal departed for a well-compiled 87 — an innings that featured aggression, flair, and a bit of bite. India blended caution with bursts of aggression to reach 182 for 3 at tea on the opening day of the second Test against England here on Wednesday. That bite was on display earlier in the day when Jaiswal and Stokes exchanged words in the 17th over of the innings. After conceding five runs — including a commanding boundary — Stokes stared down the young Indian, who didn't back away from the confrontation. The two engaged in a brief but intense verbal duel, adding spice to an already charged heated JAISBALL BAZBALL on display! #ENGvIND 2nd Test, Day 1 | LIVE NOW on JioHotstar Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) July 2, 2025advertisementJaiswal, fresh from a century at Headingley, looked in ominous touch once again. Intent on making up for a poor outing in the field — including a dropped sitter of Ben Duckett on 97 that proved costly — the 22-year-old took the attack to England's bowlers. His aggressive approach left Josh Tongue, the pick of England's bowlers in the first Test, reeling as he leaked 42 runs in his first six vs England, 1st Test Day 1: Live UpdatesBut just when Jaiswal seemed set for another big knock, it was Stokes who had the final say — a captain leading by example, both in fire and in the toss, the sight of boundary ropes being brought in noticeably caught the eye at Edgbaston, sparking murmurs about conditions being tailored for run-fests. India, meanwhile, rang in three changes. With pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah rested, Akash Deep was handed a debut. Sai Sudharsan made way for Washington Sundar, while Nitish Kumar Reddy replaced Shardul Yadav was once again overlooked, with India opting for a second spinner in the form of batting all-rounder Washington. After failing to take 20 wickets in Leeds, the decision to bolster the batting — rather than address the bowling — raised a few eyebrows.- EndsTune InYou May Also Like

ENG Pacer Tries To Distract Shubman Gill With No-Ball Signal, Picture Goes Viral
The incident took place during the 34th over of India's first innings of the second Test, which is taking place at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Shubman Gill is leading India in the second Test against England, which is taking place at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The right-handed batter from Punjab came out to bat at No. 4 for the visitors in the first innings after Karun Nair's wicket and was batting on 42 runs at the end of the second session on Wednesday (July 2). During the second session of the first day's play, England pacer Brydon Carse tried to distract him by making a bizarre no-ball signal during his run-up. The incident took place before the fourth ball of the 34th over of India's first innings bowled by Carse. Carse was spotted making a no-ball signal with his left hand in his run-up. Gill spotted the activity and moved away from his batting stance at the last minute. While the English pacer did deliver the ball, it was declared a dead ball by the umpire, as the Indian captain pointed out Carse's activity as the reason behind his decision. Here's a look: What was that, Brydon Carse? 😳👀Carse showed a hand sign during his run up and tried to distract Shubman Gill but Gill backs out at the last moment. #ENGvIND #INDvsENG — Saabir Zafar (@Saabir_Saabu01) July 2, 2025 Brydon Carse thought he could fool Shubman Gill doing this, the thing he didn't know is that only Gautam Gambhir has the right to fool Shubman Gill. — Vipul 🇮🇳 (@Vipul_Espeaks) July 2, 2025 Gill, who scored 147 runs for India in the first innings of the first Test played against England at Headingley in Leeds, would like to score big runs in the first innings of the second Test as well and help India post a big total. In the second session of opening day's play, Gill added 66 runs for the third wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal (87) before England captain Ben Stokes removed Jaiswal. The left-handed opening batter was caught behind by Jamie Smith. Had Jaiswal scored 13 more runs, he would have equalled Sourav Ganguly's 29-year-old record of being the only Indian batter to score a century in his first two Test matches played on English soil. Ganguly made his Test debut for India against England at Lord's on June 20, 1996, and scored 131 runs. In his second Test, which was played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, Ganguly scored 136 runs in the first innings. Jaiswal, who is India's highest-ranked Test batter, played his first Test in England at Headingley from June 20 to 24, 2025, and scored 101 runs from 109 balls in the first innings. Jaiswal, who is one of the best Test batters of present times, loves playing against the English team. In seven Tests played so far against the Poms, Jaiswal has scored 904 runs. Watch: Ben Stokes Tries Shrewd Tactic vs Yashasvi Jaiswal As War Of Words Follow. India Star Then Does This vs England
Yashasvi Jaiswal maintained his aggression despite being tested by the England pacers while Karun Nair showed promise at number three before being dismissed late in the session as India reached 98 for two at lunch on day one of the second Test here on Wednesday. Considering the overhead conditions, Stokes opted to bowl but Jaiswal and Nair did well to survive the tough period. In the first hour, KL Rahul (2 off 26), played on to the stumps off a Chris Woakes delivery before Jaiswal-Nair duo added 80 for the second wicket. Brydon Carse got one to rise sharply minutes before lunch, inducing an outside edge off Nair's bat that went to Harry Brook at second slip. There was not a lot of swing but the ball seamed a fair bit in the first hour of play. Carse targeted Jaiswal's rib cage often but the southpaw was unscathed. Jaiswal began with a couple of cover drives off Carse, who purposely bowled full to the batter and mixed it up an odd short ball into the body. Besides the flowing drives, the southpaw also played the pull and a slap over backward point off Ben Stokes. Stokes even tried to rile up Jaiswal while the Indian batter was taking a single. The incident happened during the 17th over when Jaiswal was batting on 35. A few overs later, Jaiswal reached his 11th half-century. Some heated JAISBALL BAZBALL on display! #ENGvIND 2nd Test, Day 1 | LIVE NOW on JioHotstar — Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) July 2, 2025 Nair, moved up three places in the batting order from the last game, was offered plenty of full balls from the England pacers and he duly obliged by driving it through the cover and straight boundary. Before toss, the boundary ropes being brought in significantly caught the eye of many at Edgbaston. With premier match winner Jasprit Bumrah rested from the game, India brought in Akash Deep in his place while making two interesting changes, leaving out Sai Sudharsan for Washington Sundar and replacing Shardul Thakur with Nitish Kumar Reddy. Kuldeep Yadav was once again ignored as India picked a second spinner in batting all-rounder Washington. For a team that struggled to take 20 wickets at Leeds, the decision to shore up the batting was debatable. P
