Durban City crowned Motsepe champs as they relegate Cape Town Spurs
Veteran forward Ruzaigh Gamildien scored the 43rd-minute winner earned promotion back to the Betway Premiership for the team formerly known as Maritzburg United, who relocated from Pietermaritzburg to Durban and named themselves after the iconic Durban team ahead of this season.
Cape Town Spurs — the team formerly known as Ajax Cape Town and owned by Ari Efstathiou, who were relegated from the Premiership a year ago — fell another division in the space of a season as they finished in 15th place.
Leruma United ended last and were also relegated.

'I see a disaster' – Khanye predicts tough start for Kaizer Chiefs
Retired South African footballer Junior Khanye has predicted that Kaizer Chiefs will struggle in their opening five Betway Premiership fixtures. The 40-year-old football analyst has questioned Amakhosi's new signings, saying the team will not improve this coming season. The Glamour Boys spent three weeks in the Netherlands for their pre-season tour, where they played several Dutch teams. Speaking on iDiski TV , the former Kaizer Chiefs winger predicted his old team to fumble in their opening five matches. In August, Amakhosi play Stellenbosch, Polokwane City, Richards Bay, Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows. 'This pre-season is very crucial for Kaizer Chiefs. In the five games they played, they won once and lost four times. [I'm concerned about] how they play, let alone the results. For me, I see a disaster; I need to be honest,' Khanye said. 'For me, it feels Chiefs are doing the same thing they have been doing for the past 10 years. They are signing players who play in lower leagues like Zimbabwe and Zambia. Even this guy they signed, who wears the number 10 jersey, played for the third division (in England).' The former South African U/20 winger also questioned the abilities of new striker Flavio Silva. 'If you check this new striker they bought called Flavio, and it's not that he is not scoring, his understanding of the game is questionable. In the five games, I feel Kaizer Chiefs will win one, draw another and lose three. The reason I'm saying this is that they missed out on the top 8,' Khanye said. Kaizer Chiefs guaranteed ONE winner at PSL Awards
The 2024/25 PSL season was one – another one – to forget for Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs. Amakhosi finished ninth in what turned out to be a 15-team Betway Premiership and missed out – again – on qualifying for the lucrative MTN8 this season. The one shining light, however, was their 2-1 Nedbank Cup win over bitter rivals Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium back in May this year. The Glamour Boys were rewarded for that victory when the Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced the nominees for the 2024/25 PSL Awards later this month. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 29 July, at 19:00 and will be broadcast live on SuperSport PSL Channel and SABC Sport. In the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament category, all three nominees – Inacio Miguel, Pule Mmodi, and Gaston Sirino – hail from Kaizer Chiefs. That means Kaizer Chiefs are guaranteed to go home with at least one accolade. Interestingly, the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player category is dominated by Orlando Pirates , with nominations for Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota. Meanwhile, the prestigious Footballer of the Season award will be contested by Keletso Makgalwa (Sekhukhune United), Relebohile Mofokeng (Orlando Pirates), and Lucas Ribeiro Costa (Mamelodi Sundowns). All three players have also been nominated for the Betway Premiership Players' Player of the Season award, underlining their consistency and influence during the 2024/25 campaign.
