Michelle Obama turns on ESPN and Stephen A. Smith with brutal 'Real Housewives' comparison
ESPN has gone through a shift in its programming over the past decade, with a surge in fiery panel shows such as 'First Take,' 'Get Up' and 'The Pat McAfee Show'.
The network has also built personalities including Smith, who recently signed a $100million contract and has even teased a possible run for the White House.
But Smith and ESPN have been mocked by the former First Lady, who suggested the network has become its own reality TV show.
'It's all a sociological study. They think that sports is better reality TV, I'm like, "it's the same thing!"' Obama said on her 'IMO' podcast. 'There's drama in sports. If I listen to ESPN for an hour, it's like watching the "Real Housewives of Atlanta."
'It's the same drama, and they're yelling at each other, and they don't get along, you know? I mean, Stephen A. Smith, he's just like every other talk show host.'

It was then jokingly put to Obama that Smith would be a 'great Real Housewife'. The popular reality franchise details the lives of well-off women from different regions.
'That's why I'm like, "what's the difference?" It's just sociological drama,' Obama continued.
'The fact that people over seasons of working still can't get along. They still have the same arguments and it's not just women. But this happens in sports, too. I find it fascinating.'
ESPN recently called time on longtime show 'Around the Horn' and on the final episode, contestant Tim Cowlishaw bemoaned the network 'hiring athletes instead of journalists.'

Child star from original Willy Wonka film reveals how much he still earns from movie 54 YEARS later
Peter Ostrum was just 14-years-old when he appeared on screen as the beloved Charlie Bucket in 1971's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Starring alongside Gene Wilder as the lucky winner of the Golden Ticket, the former actor once described his pay check as 'paltry' and later turned his back on acting to pursue a career as a vet. However 54 years on from the film's release, he has revealed he still receives a small income from his role. Speaking at Snowtown Film Festival in 2018, Peter said he makes around $8 to $9 in royalties every three months from the film being shown on TV. Based on Roald Dahl 's 1964 book, the movie told the story of five schoolchildren who won the chance to tour the magical factory belonging to candy man Wonka after finding golden tickets hidden inside chocolate bars. The film suffered 'lukewarm reviews' and 'died a quiet death' Peter recalled, earning $4million from its release and disappeared. Peter told the Daily Mirror: 'Back then when the film came out there was no red carpet premiere. 'I was in my hometown in Ohio and they had an opening there and I was the only one there. There was a little bit of fanfare but not much and the film died a quiet death. 'It had lukewarm reviews and people forgot about it. It wasn't until video 10 years later that it resurfaced and it took on a life of its own.' Peter traded in the acting scene to become a respected veterinarian, after getting a doctorate from prestigious American university Cornell and using his earnings from the film to buy a horse. He turned down a potentially lucrative three-film deal with producer David L. Wolper following his success in Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory to concentrate on his studies before specialising in treating cattle and horses. 'Everybody could be so lucky to have an experience like this and then to go in a completely different direction,' he told the Today show in 2015. Discussing his brief acting career with the Daily Express in 2014, the Ohio -born father-of-two recalled: 'Looking back, my pay check was paltry, but it was during filming that I really became interested in medicine.' Peter continued: 'People tell me they watched Willy Wonka so many times growing up that they wore out their VHS copy. We had no idea we were making a classic, which even coined a new phrase: "I've found the golden ticket." 'I will always cherish my memories of making the movie, but I feel I won the golden ticket by becoming a vet.' In an interview with the American Veterinary Medical Association, Peter recalled seeing a vet at work and thinking: 'This person really enjoyed what he did for a living.' He explained: 'My father was a lawyer, and I really didn't have a clue what he did all day. But I knew exactly what the veterinarian did. 'Someone making a living from something he enjoyed so much really sparked my interest. I thought if I didn't pursue that, I'd always kick myself.'

Padel could come to Rotherham under new plans
The dedicated padel tennis centre could open in Rotherham under new plans submitted to the application to transform a vacant industrial unit in Hellaby would see several indoor padel courts built alongside a small cafe and Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has supported the proposal, describing the development as a "fantastic attribute for the Rotherham area".The LTA said there were currently no padel courts in Rotherham and praised the facility's potential to boost participation in what it calls the "fastest-growing sport in the world". Padel is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, played on a smaller enclosed court, and is designed to be more accessible and sociable than traditional site, Unit 1, Sandbeck Way, is currently a vacant truck park and distribution warehouse which dates back to the 1970s, according to the Local Democracy Reporting to the applicant the building is no longer viable as a warehouse due to modern demands and structural limitations and has stood vacant since applicant said the centre would create up to 12 jobs, including roles for padel coaches, cleaning and maintenance staff, and a full-time site provision would be expanded from the existing 14 spaces to a minimum of 37, with an additional 14 overspill spaces available at the nearby Trinity House unit.
