Green Triangle lands Gowran Classic as Joseph O'Brien dominates

Ridden by Ronan Whelan, who was having his first ride back after a month on the sidelines, Green Triangle (11-1) rallied over a thrilling mile and a furlong to beat And So To Bed by a head with with fellow O'Brien inmates Viking Invasion and Dignam following them home.
O'Brien said: 'The horse got a good set-up. We were here to try and get some prize-money. I said to Ronan to get a positive start and give him a chance because we had been sending him to the front.
'He probably enjoyed that, first-time blinkers, and he got all the money.
'It was a good race. And So To Bed bounced right back to form. I thought if she came back to her Curragh run she was probably the one to beat in the race, and it looks like she did.
'This fella is a talented horse but a tricky customer. In Killarney he was going to win when he jumped out through the rail, he's always run pretty well.
'It was a great result. It's great prize-money and we obviously always try and target those races.
'The winner will probably turn up in a nice three-year-old handicap somewhere.'
As for Whelan, O'Brien said: 'I'm particularly happy for Ronan because he got injured off my filly in the Curragh, he got a cut on the back of his head, and today is his first day back riding.
'I was feeling sorry for him, it was a freak accident, and it's great for him to get a winner and a big pot.'
Dancing Teapot emerged as another winner for O'Brien in the Today's Gate Sponsored By The INPBA. Sent off the 11-8 favourite, the sister of Lockinge runner-up Dancing Gemini beat In My Teens by a length.

Ron Wood's selections NAP: Los Toldos (8.30, Leopardstown) 1pt win @ 12/1 with Betfred ⭐⭐⭐ Other: Galen (6.52, Leopardstown) 1pt win @ 9/4 with Betfred ⭐⭐ Odds provided by Betfred and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (max 5). If you already have a Betfred account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use for this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. 6.52, Leopardstown – Meld Stakes (Group 3, 1m 1f) GALEN has a 3lb penalty, but has advanced his form to near Group 1 level this year. Yes, he was beaten into second in a Listed race, the Wolferton Stakes, at Royal Ascot most recently, but that was a mighty effort under a 5lb penalty against some smart rivals. Earlier in the campaign JP O'Brien's charge had too much speed for Jan Brueghel, who then won a Group 1, when taking a Curragh Group 3, albeit that rival had extra weight and probably needed the run. Galen is a hardy sort who should give his running. Dylan Browne McMonagle is in the saddle, teaming up with the Gleneagles gelding for a 13th consecutive ride. 8.30, Leopardstown – Handicap (1m 5f) LOS TOLDOS, a 750,000gn yearling, won a 1m 4f novice for Charlie Appleby in Britain last year. He was later let go for a relatively paltry 27,000gn, but may prove well bought. This son of Frankel was well beaten in a 1m 6f Flat race at Gowran in April, but that cannot have been his true running, as he won a maiden hurdle at Cork the next month. That form has worked out really well, with the second, third and fifth all winning since. There seems a fair chance that our nap will prove ahead of his mark. Selection: Los Toldos 1pt win @ 12/1 with Betfred Today's UK and Irish racing (Flat unless stated) Hamilton 1.50-4.55 Leicester 2.00-5.10 Chepstow 2.10-5.20 Leopardstown 4.45-8.30 Killarney (NH) 5.01-8.15 Worcester (NH) 5.05-8.55 Epsom 5.55-8.40 What does NAP mean? NAP is a word used in betting circles to describe a prediction that a tipster thinks has a particularly strong chance of winning. Many horse racing tipsters pick out a 'NAP of the day', which is their favoured selection from all the races across the different meetings. The term NAP derives from the French card game Napoleon. When players of this game thought they had a particularly strong hand that they would win with, they would shout 'Napoleon'. What is an each-way bet? An each-way bet is a popular type of wager, particularly with horse racing fans. It is essentially two bets, both of which have the same size stake. An each-way bet features one bet on the selection to win and the other bet on the selection to place. So a £10 each-way bet will cost you a total of £20. There will be one £10 bet on the selection to win and another £10 on the selection to place. It's a popular bet because it offers punters the chance of a return, even if the horse in question fails to win. Bookmakers will pay out at a stated percentage of the odds for a place finish, for example one-fifth of the starting price (SP) for finishing in the first three. The more runners there are in a horse race, the more places will be on offer. In races that feature lots of runners, the horses will be available at bigger odds, making an each-way bet a wise choice. O'Brien sets sights on Matron return for Porta Fortuna

A four-times Group One winner, she made the perfect start to this season when winning the Lanwades Stud Stakes. She was subsequently ruled out of Royal Ascot due to injury and while she is on her way back to action, O'Brien fears he will not have time to get her run into her prior to the Irish Champions Festival on September 13 and 14. 'She is good and back cantering. She picked up a ligament injury which has taken her a while to get back from and the earliest she will be back is for the Matron Stakes,' said O'Brien. 'That's what we are hoping for as it is in the time frame to get her back to the track. 'She won't have time for a prep race so will have to go straight there but it is a Group One in Ireland, so makes sense for a lot of reasons.'

Albert Einstein return still appears some way off

His trainer Aidan O'Brien remains hopeful his exciting juvenile will make it back time to run in some of the major end-of-season races in the autumn, although a return to action still appears some way off. He holds entries in September, including in the Vincent O'Brien National Stakes. O'Brien said: 'He's not near to running yet, he's not back cantering yet. He's just been on a break. 'We're still hoping he'll be back for something in the autumn, but it will depend on how he is really.' Albert Einstein's reputation has only risen in his absence with O'Brien winning the Queen Mary, Coventry Stakes and the Norfolk yet hailing the Wootton Bassett colt as perhaps the best of his crop. Following Gstaad's impressive Coventry win O'Brien said: 'Albert Einstein was always something very different and a very quick horse, incredibly quick from the day we worked him. 'Gstaad is a big horse who travels well and with lots of speed. We always thought this was a top-tier horse alongside Albert, but your man was just so fast it was different.'
