BEST BET
PRIVATE JUMBO (Race 7 No.1 – $3.50): Did a good job first-up from a seven-month spell when fifth behind Silver Cliff at Sandown on June 18. Drops in class today, gets weight off with Emily Pozman's claim and second-up record (4:1-1-0) reads well.

NEXT BEST
HOUSE OF LORDS (Race 6 No.14 – $6): Won maiden at this track in good style on June 12 and this isn't a deep Benchmark 64. The booking of Jye McNeil is a strong pointer. Can go on with the job up to the mile.
TISHMAN (Race 5 No.4 – $2.70): Impressive winner over this course and distance last time out and no reason why he can't make it two on the trot.

VALUE BET
TRANSACTIONS (Race 9 No.9 – $9.50): Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained gelding who was unlucky not to win at Pakenham and Geelong before having little luck at Mornington. Can give this a shake.

Bo Vette-Welsh: Up here they believe if one succeeds we all succeed"

One of the most travelled players in the NRLW is new Knight Bo Vette-Welsh (21:27). The full back takes over the custodian spot from Tamika Upton but she's relishing the chance to play her football in Newcastle. She told Andrew Moore and John Gibbs that she's already seeing the amazing supportive community that follow the Knights. Plus Michael Carayannis is along with the latest rugby league news - and speculation - in MC's Hammertime (40:43). And Christopher is back and firing with all your tipping guidance in Christopher's Corner (10:49).

Seventh NSW Blues player to miss Ashes tour with Australia

A seventh NSW player looks set to pass on the chance to play for Australia in the Ashes – but it has nothing to do with switching allegiances. Liam Martin, who would have been one of the first picked for the end-of-season tour with the Kangaroos, has confirmed he is expecting his first child with fiancée Chelsea, and is ready to stay at home for the birth. Martin had to miss last year's Pacific Championships because of a shoulder injury, but was one of the back-rowers for Australia in 2023, and also a member of the World Cup-winning squad in 2022. Jarome Luai, Stephen Crichton, Brian To'o, Spencer Leniu and most likely Payne Haas will commit to playing for Samoa at the end of the year, while Stefano Utoikamanu, who has also played for Samoa, said he was keen to honour his father's heritage and represent Tonga. Brad Fittler this week pulled out of the race to replace Mal Meninga as Kangaroos coach, saying he wanted to focus on his media commitments with Channel Nine. There has been a push from senior Maroons for Cameron Smith to take over from Meninga, who relinquished the post once he took over as head coach of the new Perth Bears franchise. Kevin Walters and even Wayne Bennett, who have both worked as representative coaches, remain in the mix. Martin said he never wanted to pass up an opportunity to play Test football, but did not want to be stranded on the other side of the world when his first child was born. 'We're due in October – I'm pretty excited – but it means I'll probably have to pull out of the Ashes,' Martin said.
