Could your child's swimsuit color be putting them at risk? These colors were rated safest

Yahoo4 days ago
As families flock to pools and lakes to beat the summer heat, water safety experts are urging parents to think carefully when picking out children's swimwear.
Two 2021 visibility test studies performed by ALIVE Solutions Inc., a company that specializes in aquatic safety, reveal that the color of a child's swimsuit can play a crucial role in spotting them underwater.
The first ALIVE Solutions visibility test study reveals how different colors of fabric appear in a pool with a light colored bottom.
The top photo in each section shows the appearance of various colors underwater, while the bottom images demonstrate their appearance with surface agitation.
'Our bottom two colors are white and light blue (check out how they disappear) and our top choices would be neon pink and neon orange,' reads the ALIVE Solutions Blog post sharing the results.
'Although the darker colors show up on a light pool bottom they can often be dismissed for a pile of leaves, dirt, or a shadow so I tend to stay away from those colors when possible.'
The second visibility test study reveals how the same fabric colors appear in 18 inches of lake water with a brownish grey bottom on a partly sunny day.
The first row of images reveals the appearance of colors on the water's surface, whereas the second row demonstrates color visibility from a shore-level perspective. The third row of images reveals color visibility from 'a slightly elevated perspective — simulating standing on a boat/dock view.'
The colors with the highest visibility in this test study were neon yellow, green and orange.
'White came in fourth place, but appeared more to be a light reflection or clouds on the surface and wouldn't stand out in a crowd … so personally wouldn't be on our list as a top choice,' reads the ALIVE Solutions Blog post sharing the results.
'Also remember … the bright and contrasting colors help visibility, but it doesn't matter what color your kids are wearing if you aren't supervising effectively and actively watching!'

Soft serve nails: The viral summer manicure that's as sweet as it sounds

There's a manicure trend that's making its way not-so-stealthily across Tiktok, celebrity fingertips and salon chairs this summer, which is just as sweet, smooth and nostalgic as it sounds. Cue soft serve nails: A delectable, milky dream of a manicure that blends the best bits of a French manicure with a gel ombré and - you've guessed it - ice cream. A creamy, buttery array of subtle, sorbet shades, whipped pinks and creamy nudes that melt seamlessly into sheer, milky white at the nail tip, soft serve nails are finished with a high-gloss top coat. Think colour that is seamlessly 'churned' - if you will -with no beginning or end: strawberry and vanilla swirls, subtle raspberry ripple or even creamy apricot. This is a manicure breed that blends minimal elegance with playful charm. But why - when nail trends come and go as they do - has this one gone quite so stratospheric? Put simply, it's feminine, low-effort and utterly versatile, but still delivers the quiet elegance and understated luxury that we all want and need right now. Then of course - of course - there's the fact that it aligns with the clean girl aesthetic which continues to reign supreme and go absolutely nowhere fast. Yes, this is the kind of manicure that doesn't shout or scream, but steadily clocks up compliments everywhere from the coffee queue, to cocktails and nursery pickup. Celebrity manicurist Harriet Westmoreland (@harrietwestmoreland) has earned a global reputation for her meticulous work in recent years, and has done much to take minimal manicure trends like this one viral time and time and time again. Queen of the modern French, she has been sliding variations of the soft serve into her summer appointments and social feeds over the last months, keeping her iterations glossy, clean and short. Then of course there's our perennial manicure muse, Hailey Bieber who has been out and about in LA this summer with a soft blend of pinky nude with whisper-white tips. Word has it - just F.Y.I that her go-to picks are OPI Bubble Bath and Funny Bunny. Of course you do! Ask your nail tech for a soft ombré or milky gradient using milky, pastel shades. Or fancy some DIY? Apply two coats of your chosen varnish before adding a dot of creamy white polish onto a sponge and tapping it onto the tip of the nail, building up intensity slowly until you have the seamless gradient required. Finish with a glossy topcoat like Seche Vite instant Gel Effect Top Coat (£9.95, for that irresistible ice cream shine. My personal picks to try this trend? Essie Sugar Daddy, (£8.99, OPI Nail Polish in Funny Bunny and Bubble Bath (£15.60 each, Manucurist Natural Nail Polish in Blossom (£14, Hermes Nail Polish in Rose Coquille, (£46, Biosculpture Nail Polish in Sweet Candy Breath, Peach Whip and Strawberry French (£15.50 each, plus The GelBottle Gels in Daisy and Gloss.

Reese Witherspoon and Her Finance Guy Boyfriend Were Spotted Making Out in Europe

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Truly thought we'd reached critical mass of celebrities on yachts this summer, but nope. A-listers simply cannot stop frolicking around Europe. And the latest additions? Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend Oliver Haarmann. The pair were photographed kissing and cuddling while on a yacht off the coast of St. Tropez, and People published some particularly PDA-filled pics. They honestly look so in love! Side note: can't tell for sure, but it looks like Reese is wearing the Marysia Palm Springs Maillot in white, if you care to channel her vibes in the hopes of someone inviting you on a yacht:$369.00 at So, who is Oliver Haarmann? He's a German financier who co-owns the New York Islanders, and Reese has been dating him since at least September 2024 (though they were also spotted a few months earlier in July). Back in October, a source told People that "Reese is doing great and enjoys dating. She's having fun with Oliver. She often flies between Nashville and N.Y.C. to see him. He's spending time with her kids too." They added that "Reese loves that he's a businessman and not into Hollywood." Reese was previously in a relationship with Jim Toth, who she announced her divorce from in March 2023. Not much is known about Oliver, but he seems chill based You Might Also Like Here's What NOT to Wear to a Wedding Meet the Laziest, Easiest Acne Routine You'll Ever Try
