Iowa football QB Mark Gronowski ranked among the best in the nation
That is the growing expectation surrounding the proven winner and two-time national champion transfer from the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. After foregoing the NFL and declining other Power 4 offers, Mark Gronowski joined the Iowa Hawkeyes with the chance to create something special.
The jump from the FCS ranks, where he was one of, if not the best, quarterbacks in the nation, to the Big Ten is a drastic change, but one that many believe Gronowski can handle. Phil Steele is one of those who believe he can be the missing piece for Iowa.
Phil Steele is high on Gronowski to the point that in his recent college football quarterback rankings, he has Mark Gronowski as No. 18 QB in all of college football, a spot that has him among some of the biggest household names in the Big Ten and all of the sport.
The reason for the excitement makes sense. Gronowski dominated at the FCS level, winning back-to-back titles while stuffing the stat sheet. He threw for 10,330 yards and 93 touchdowns while protecting the ball with just 20 interceptions. He also ran for 1,767 yards and 37 more touchdowns on the ground.
Big Ten quarterbacks also included in Steele's rankings are Penn State's Drew Allar at No. 6, UCLA's Nico Iamaleava at No. 8, Indiana's Fernando Mendoza at No. 14, and Illinois' Luke Altmyer at No. 17. Iowa State QB Rocco Becht cracked the top 10, coming in at No. 10.

Texas A&M lands commitment from elite 2027 4-star QB out of Georgia
Texas A&M's recruiting pipeline in Georgia is real. The program's future at quarterback will always be unknown in today's transfer portal age. Still, knowing that redshirt sophomore Marcel Reed will likely return in 2026, combined with 2026 four-star commit Helaman Casuga joining the program, Sunday's news that 2027 four-star signal caller Jayce Johnson has committed to Texas A&M is just more proof that coach Mike Elko and OC Collin Klein are dedicated avoiding any drop off at the most critical position in the game. Choosing the Aggies over Tennessee, Florida State, Mississippi State, and South Carolina, Johnson is the first 2027 commit in A&M's class after four-star tight end George Lamons decommitted from the program late last month. This summer, Johnson has continued to improve as a pocket passer and has established himself as a dual-threat quarterback, but he needs to be less static in the pocket when his early reads break down. If Reed and Miles O'Neill return in 2026, Texas A&M's QB room will be deep enough to let Johnson develop into the star many of us expect he'll be. Ahead of his junior season at Lowndes High School, Johnson made his mark during his 2024 sophomore season after throwing for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions, paired with over 300 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. These numbers are just the start for Johnson, whose elite arm talent and impressive touch put him ahead of schedule as a passer. According to 247Sports, Johnson is currently positioned as the 63rd-ranked prospect in the 2027 cycle, the 6th-ranked quarterback, and the 7th-ranked prospect in Georgia. Former Iowa football running back accepts new coaching position
When players go through the Iowa football system, they become so much more knowledgeable of the game and can think football at a higher level than others. That's a big reason why so many Hawkeyes find their way into the NFL and usually stick around longer than some may expect. But for those who weren't able to make it to the league, that knowledge doesn't evaporate. Some players use it to be involved with the game in a different aspect: coaching. And this former Iowa football running back is the next in a great line of Hawkeyes turned into coaches. Bemidji State University football announced on X that it had hired former Hawkeye running back Ivory Kelly-Martin to be its running backs coach for the 2025 season. Bemidji State is a Division II school located in Bemidji, Minnesota. They compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Kelly-Martin played at Iowa from 2017-2021, appearing in 44 games. He had 181 carries for 804 yards and six rushing touchdowns in those 44 games. He spent a lot of time backing up Tyler Goodson and providing valuable snaps. While he wasn't a star at Iowa, Kelly-Martin was well respected by his teammates and coaching staff and was a true steward of the game. That was evident with his inclusion on the 2021 Players Council. Before accepting this position with Bemidji State, Kelly-Martin was a graduate assistant running backs coach at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. With his Master's in Business Administration all finished up, he can now start his coaching career with the Bemidji State Beavers. Hawkeye fans wish Kelly-Martin the best of luck as the next chapter of his life begins. Texas A&M lands former Kansas guard from the transfer portal
So far this offseason, new Texas A&M basketball head coach Bucky McMillan has already landed 11 players from the transfer portal. At the same time, 2025 signee Jeremiah Green and standout international shooting guard Rubén Domínguez have led to 13 total additions. To reach the 15-player roster threshold, McMillan's goal this fall was to add two more veterans to the 2025 roster. On Sunday morning, the 14th player was added to the roster, as McMillan has landed a commitment from Kansas guard Noah Shelby, who will join former Kansas forward Zach Clemence and shooting guard Rylan Griffen, two of the program's first transfer additions earlier this year. Shelby is a McKinney, Texas, native and a four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. Shelby first committed to Vanderbilt before transferring to Rice, then walking on with the Jayhawks, where he averaged 3.9 points while shooting 35% from the field and 33% from 3-point range. A top-20 ranked guard in the 2022 cycle, Shelby is still considered one of the better 3-point shooters and will be entering a fast-paced offense built around shooting efficiency, providing the Texas native a chance to find a place in the rotation. Shelby has 44 games of experience under his belt, which is highly valuable to a new roster under a first-year head coach.
