R.M.Williams research: Aussie's are hungrier for more adventure, fun and freedom

New research has revealed Aussies are hungrier than ever for more adventure, fun and freedom in their life before they kick the bucket.
The study, commissioned by Australian brand R.M.Williams, shows that nearly 80 per cent of Australians have a bucket list.
While almost half are actively pursuing their goals, there's strong signs of motivation: one in ten Aussies booked a last-minute experience in the past year, and 65 percent say they're craving more spur-of-the-moment adventures.
The Grab Life by the Tugs campaign launched this week to inspire even more Australians to take that next step, whether they desire setting off on a spontaneous weekend away (48 per cent), spending a night under the stars (36 per cent), or finally ticking off the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb (19 per cent).
'There's a deep desire to live more boldly and break away from the ordinary,' R.M. Williams' head of brand marketing communications Victoria Taylor said.
Despite busy schedules, 61 per cent of Aussies still prioritise holidays, and nearly half say they regularly make time for life's simple pleasures, like sharing a great meal.
Young Australians are leading the charge, with 23 per cent of Gen Z planning to complete their bucket list by the end of this year alone. And across all ages, a third say they'd be disappointed if they didn't get to live out their dreams. Encouragingly, nearly 90 per cent say they'd take more steps toward their goals with the right gear behind them.

How many times can you have your favourite meal before you get sick of it? One Aussie is clearly pushing the envelope as he reveals his insane eating habits. Tyler Carroll's love for Australian founded fast food chain Guzman Y Gomez is no secret, and he has been caught up in a viral whirlwind since sharing his excessive spending habits online. The 27-year-old took to TikTok to prove that he was the Mexican chain's number one fan, revealing the ridiculous amount he has spent there in the last financial year. 'I want to show you guys how much Guzman I've eaten over the past year,' the Brisbane local said. 'We can see that I've eaten 395 times... that is an average of more than one per day. 'I will get it for breakfast, lunch and dinner pretty often.' Averaging a meal from GYG 1.4 times per day, his spending habits at the chain are unsurprising. 'That is $6500 spent at Guzman last financial year... and guess what, I'm probably going to spend another $6500 this financial year, I LOVE Guzman,' Carroll revealed. 'I love GYG, I'm never, ever getting sick of it. 'I'm absolutely addicted to GYG — its almost become a personality trait.' The most shocking revelation — he refuses to use the chain's loyalty program which could have saved him more than $400, saying 'the product is so good I want to spend full price.' With an addiction that crippling the big question on everyone's mind was — what does he order? Despite ordering 395 times in a year, Carroll said that his order rarely changes. 'For breakfast I'll typically get a bacon or a chorizo burrito in a medium meal with a iced latte — normally bacon,' he said. 'For dinner I'll get a chicken burrito bowl, no beans, extra chicken — If I'm in a deficit I might switch it to chicken tacos or if I'm in a bulk then I might add a bag of corn chips to lunch or dinner. 'It ends up being somewhere between 2000 to 2500 calories per day and about 120 to 160 grams of protein per day.' The saga has blown up over the past few days, with fans expressing their differing opinions on Carroll's eating habits. 'You sir are living the dream,' a comment wrote in envy. 'How do you afford $6500 a year on takeaway??,' one said. 'As a stranger with no stake in this whatsoever I'm begging you to get on that loyalty program, you're stressing me out,' a sentiment many shared about the absurdity of Carroll choosing to pay full price. 'Yeesh, I wouldn't be mad if this was zambrero, not even if it was mad Mex . But Guzman , cmon man,' a viewer said trying to start one of the oldest debates known to man. 'You might as well start working there and get 50% off,' a comment pointed out. 'Wow 🤯,' former Australian NBA player Matthew Dellavedova commented on Carroll's post.

Two fashion names and a design guru have just made millions on a cult Byron hinterland hotel

A group of Australian fashion and lifestyle creatives has sold Byron Bay's globally acclaimed Sun Ranch hotel for more than $15 million, just two years after purchasing the hinterland site for $3.9 million. The 22-hectare retreat in Coopers Shoot, a rural pocket 20 minutes from Byron, was bought in 2021 by an investment collective of like-minded women under the name Rolling Thunder. Heading the consortium were Jamie Blakey, founder of cult denim brand One Teaspoon, travel entrepreneur Julia Ashwood, and Claire Tregoning, co-founder of streetwear powerhouse P.E Nation. Together, the trio transformed the property - originally a 1980s brick home with grazing cattle - into a celebrated, design-led destination that blends sustainable architecture with high-end hospitality. The luxury California-ranch-meets-modern-bohemian haven was originally listed in 2024 with a $20 million guide, and then was dropped to $15 million. Selling agent Will Phillips of Sotheby's International Realty handled the campaign, and while the final price has not been disclosed, the deal was reportedly secured for just above $15 million. Despite fielding interest from both residential and commercial buyers, the sellers say they're thrilled that the new owners are committed to continuing the Sun Ranch vision. "We received national and international interest, from hoteliers or people wanting to get into the game, but we couldn't have wished for buyers who were more closely aligned with our business," Ms Ashwood told Australian Financial Review. The new buyers are understood to have bought the Sun Ranch brand and will keep on staff and management. The centrepiece of the estate is the Rambler Longhouse (the former '80s brick pad); a five-room lodge rebuilt from the slab up with eco builder, Balanced Earth. Surrounded by native bushland, the Longhouse includes access to a private mineral pool and outdoor showers, with rooms renting for around $2,500 for two nights. A full property buyout for up to 34 guests comes in at approximately $35,000 per night. Six additional two-bedroom, off-grid barns offer more accommodation on the sprawling property, which also features two infinity-edge mineral pools, a wood-fired sauna and ice bath, and access to the creek that meanders through the estate. With approval for events of up to 150 people, Sun Ranch has quickly become a sought-after venue for brand activations, milestone birthdays, weddings and retreats. Since launching in 2023, the property has received widespread acclaim and was named one of 'the most 'stylish hotels on the planet' by British GQ. The women behind the project have described the experience as a blend of creativity and community, bringing together their expertise in fashion, branding and hospitality. Ms Blakey's One Teaspoon label brought a distinct rock'n'roll edge to Australian fashion through the 2000s; Ms Ashwood was known for her blog The Vista and boutique hotel ventures and curation; and Ms Tregoning's career spans executive and strategic roles in fashion and business. For the women of Rolling Thunder, who built one of the world's most talked-about boutique accommodations from the ground up, the sale marks the end of a transformative chapter with a major financial win. Nearby Byron hinterland estates for sale On the market for the first time in 40 years, this iconic property to the area is a gorgeous 120- year-old heritage home that sits on a total of 11 acres with approximately 3 acres of level land - meaning lots of extra lifestyle potential. Spanning 42 acres in scenic Newrybar, this dreamy property is home to a beautifully updated main residence, charming converted dairy bales and a contemporary art studio.
