Spotted! Everyone's Dotting Their Dresses With Sweet Polka Dots

Vogue03-06-2025

For most fashion people, a dress (of any kind) is more than a trend; it's a necessity, whether it's a midi for work, a semi-sheer shift for vacations, or a little white number for off-duty. It's not a stretch to say the right arsenal of one-and-done dresses can serve as the cornerstone of a well-curated wardrobe each season. And one style—or should we say, print—currently captivating our attention? The polka-dot dress.
Vogue's Favorite Polka Dot Dresses:
Polka dot-printed clothing is quite classic—just think back to the brown polka dot dress Julia Roberts wore with little white gloves in Pretty Woman, or the stippled red prom dress from Grease. It's never fully vanished, but we did take note of the print's revival during the spring/summer 2025 shows, when it dotted the collections of Valentino, Carolina Herrera, Moschino, and Rodarte, to name a few. On the streets of Australian Fashion Week, showgoers embraced it in a playful way, mixing and matching spots of all sizes for welcome contrast.
On the market now are reinvigorated colors, silhouettes, and details that challenge what a classic polka dot can be. Think of Bode's bubble-shaped dots, Marina Moscone's draped and twisted interpretation, or even Christopher John Rogers's abstract take. Posse's strappy dress comes in a bright red, great for the beach, while Zara's graphic maxi is fit for a sophisticated summer soirée, where dancing is aplenty. For tried-and-true black and white combinations, look to the high-end brands, like Saint Laurent and Zimmermann. For a more affordable way into the trend, turn to J.Crew, Mango, and Sea. These are more of polka dot dresses to wear this summer, below.

Sydney Sweeney Gained More Than 30 Pounds, Trained for ‘Three and a Half Months' for Christy Martin Biopic: ‘My Boobs Got Bigger. And My Butt Got Huge'

Sydney Sweeney opened up in a new W Magazine cover story about her dramatic transformation into boxer Christy Martin for an upcoming biopic, saying that her 'body was completely different' after months of intense training. 'I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training,' Sweeney told the publication. 'I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.' Sydney Sweeney's 'Split Fiction' Movie Lands at Amazon W also noted that the actor gained more than 30 pounds for the role. 'My body was completely different,' Sweeney said. 'I didn't fit in any of my clothes. I'm usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god.' She added, 'But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.' Sweeney is starring as Martin in an untitled sports biopic directed by David Michod, who co-wrote the script with Mirrah Foulkes. The film will chronicle the boxing star's rise to become America's most well-known female boxer of the 1990s. Martin competed professionally from 1989 to 2012 and became the world champion in the super welterweight division in 2009. In 2010, she survived a murder attempt by her husband, James Martin, who stabbed her multiple times and shot her at their home in Florida. He was convicted of attempted second-degree murder in 2012 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. In October 2024, Sweeney shared photos on Instagram of herself portraying Martin. 'Over the past few months, I've been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman — a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring,' she wrote. 'Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I'm honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. more to come soon :) CHRISTY MARTIN.' The cast of the upcoming Christy Martin biopic includes Ben Foster as James Martin, Merritt Weaver, Katy O'Brien, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad L. Coleman and Tony Cavalero. The movie is produced by Anonymous Content, Black Bear, Fifty-Fifty Films, Votiv and Yoki Inc. Read Sweeney's full W Magazine cover story here. After a monumental 37 years, Anna Wintour is to step down at Vogue as the magazine's long-serving editor-in-chief. As a result, Wintour is now on the hunt for a head of editorial content for the American fashion bible. Wintour will remain as global editorial director of Vogue (and will also continue as chief content officer of parent company Condé Nast). Appointed in 1988 (replacing Grace Mirabella) as Vogue EIC, the London-born editor ultimately reshaped the fashion media landscape, transforming Vogue into a cultural force. Wintour's first cover for November 1988 broke new ground. The revolutionary cover featured Israeli model Michaela Bercu in a $50 pair of Guess jeans and a heavily embellished Christian Lacroix sweater (priced at $10,000). Wintour's final issue as editor-in-chief is unknown, and a successor will be appointed in due course. 'End of an era.' [lanvinray] 'I didn't think I'd live to see the day. Rather than representing a possible renaissance for the magazine, a new EIC is probably just gonna accelerate its descent into pure irrelevancy.' [YohjiAddict] 'I feel conflicted. On one hand, I am happy to see her leave since things got really awful. On the other hand, I am afraid that whoever replaces her will be even worse.' [Avonlea] 'It will be curious trajectory Vogue US will take. But even so, she will continue to oversee how everything will work. It's bittersweet, even if it had to come someday.' [AFWQ] 'From it's being reported this won't be a big structural change. She's still overseeing the magazine (as well as the other CN titles), just not doing the day-to-day editor work. I don't see the new person having much freedom to make radical changes, they'll be lackeys like the ones in UK, France and Italy. Ultimately it's still her magazine and her decisions.' [Marc10] 'Anna isn't going anywhere, and will never be replaced. She will continue to oversee all of the Vogue's, and will hire a 'content editor', to do the day to day tasks at American Vogue. Nothing to see here.' [mepps] Share your own thoughts on Anna Wintour stepping down at Vogue and join the conversation, here. Lauren Sánchez Bezos on the Digital Cover of Vogue Feels Like a New Low…

You might not need reminding that Anna Wintour is stepping down as editor-in-chief of American Vogue (after a 37-year tenure), and Wintour's final issues are officially upon us. As Wintour begins to close out her tenure (while remaining as Vogue global editorial director), Lauren Sánchez Bezos makes a not-so-surprising appearance on the cover of the American fashion bible. The newlywed, who married American billionaire businessman Jeff Bezos in Venice on June 27, appears before the lens of photographer Tierney Gearon and is styled by Tabitha Simmons. The shoot took place on the grounds of an 18th-century brick villa just outside Milan on June 9. In the joyous cover image, Lauren poses in her Dolce & Gabbana wedding dress, inspired by the number Sophia Loren wore in the 1958 film 'Houseboat.' 'Perfect callback to Melania [Trump]'s wedding cover: two tacky, absolutely useless people that no one cares about being forced upon us by their detestable sugar daddy's money. What a way to go out Anna…' noted Marc10. 'I didn't expect Bezos to be so cheap. Couldn't he buy her a normal cover?' asked Avonlea. 'Thank heavens this is just a digital cover,' thatshadedgaze shrieked. Forum member Lucien112 echoed: 'At least it's not print!' 'Everything I've seen of this wedding (not by choice!) has me shocked at how cheap it all looks,' critiqued an unimpressed chiccestlavie. 'If you're going to do it, at least do it right. This feels so pedestrian and flat – even for a digital cover offering. There's no production value, no substance, no style, no nothing. The whole entire thing feels more suited to Hello! as opposed to Vogue,' voiced vogue28. See more of Lauren Sánchez Bezos from the US Vogue June 2025 cover shoot and join the conversation, here.
