'There Was One More MP': CBI Cites Vijay Mallya To Oppose Karti Chidambaram's Travel Plea
CBI said that the agency has genuine concerns, which is why it prefers that Chidambaram seek permission each time he wants to travel
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday opposed Congress MP Karti Chidambaram's request to ease his bail conditions to allow foreign travel, citing the example of Vijay Mallya.
The case was heard by Justice Ravinder Dudeja of the Delhi High Court. Representing the CBI, Special Counsel Anup S. Sharma referred to Mallya without naming him directly.
'There was one more MP, from Kingfisher. He is today in the UK," Sharma said, warning that easing travel restrictions could pose risks.
Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Chidambaram, argued that the Congress MP is not a flight risk. 'He is an MP, he is not going to be an MP of the UK. Even today, he is attending Parliament," Luthra said, asking the court to allow more flexibility for Chidambaram to travel abroad, Bar and Bench reported.
In response to Sharma's concerns, the court asked, 'If one person has run away, do you think everybody will run away?" Sharma replied that the agency has genuine concerns, which is why it prefers that Chidambaram seek permission each time he wants to travel.
Following the submissions, the court agreed to advance the hearing date to 10 September, instead of the earlier scheduled date of 16 October.
The case relates to the INX Media scandal, in which the CBI alleges that in 2007, when P. Chidambaram was the Finance Minister, INX Media received irregular approval for foreign funding worth Rs 305 crore. Karti Chidambaram was arrested in the case and later granted bail in March 2018, with conditions including a ban on international travel without court approval.
In his application, Chidambaram said he frequently travels abroad and has always followed court rules. He asked for permission to travel without restrictions to countries like the UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, which he visits often.

CBI arrests three in cybercrime case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested three persons after registering a cybercrime case against a mule account holder and unknown cyber fraudsters. An amount of ₹3.81 crore was received in the mule account on July 2, the CBI officials said on Sunday (July 27, 2025). The three accused have been identified as Sudhir Bhaskar Palande, the mule account holder, Yash Thakur, the agent, and Shaurya Sunilkumar Singh, an operator. According to the officials, the case was filed after verification of the account. The CBI Economic Offences Branch (EOB) Mumbai received specific information and registered a case against the account holder; unknown cyber fraudsters, unknown bank officials, and unknown others for committing a cybercrime of ₹3.81 crore. 'The said account received ₹3.81 crore in a single day on July 2 from various cyber victims. On receiving credits in the said account, the money was transferred to more than a hundred mule accounts opened pan India in the first layer,' said the CBI officials, adding it was further transferred/layered to thousands of accounts before reaching the actual cyber fraudsters. During the investigation, the CBI unearthed the entire conspiracy of opening the mule account by the bankers without 'proper KYC norms' or 'Customer Due Diligence' or 'Initial Risk Assessment'. The CBI seized several documents and digital evidence, mobile phones, an iPad, bank account opening documents, transaction details, and KYC documents during the search operation. The Central agency also found that the agents involved in the case and the mule account holder received their commission in cryptocurrency, which was further distributed among the co-conspirators.

Man kills colleague for refusing to give Rs 10,000 loan, arrested
A 42-year-old man was allegedly bludgeoned to death at a farmhouse in Chhattarpur by his colleague after he refused to lend him Rs 10,000, police said on Sunday. The body of the deceased, Sita Ram – who was employed at the farmhouse for the last 10 years – was found drowned in a septic tank at the property on Saturday. The accused, Chandra Prakash (47), who worked as a driver at the same farmhouse, was arrested from Palam in Southwest Delhi. Police said a missing person report for Sita Ram, originally from Uttar Pradesh, was filed at the Mehrauli police station on July 26. 'Sita Ram used to work as a help at the farmhouse and was alone the night of the incident, as the owner had gone out of Delhi. On July 26 morning, staffers found the doors of the farmhouse open, and Sita Ram missing. After the missing report was filed, his body was recovered from the septic tank of the farmhouse,' DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said. While questioning the staff at the farmhouse, the police found that Chandra Prakash was missing. He was later traced to Palam in Dwarka. Chandra Prakash, who hails from Almora and has been the driver at the farmhouse for the last seven years, told the police that a loan of Rs 10,000 made him kill Sita Ram. 'He admitted to the murder, stating that he had demanded Rs 10,000 from Sita Ram and, upon refusal, killed him with a hammer, and dumped the body in the septic tank,' the DCP said.

Tharoor unlikely to speak on debate on Pahalgam attack, Op Sindoor issues in LS
NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is unlikely to speak on the debate on Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor that gets underway in LS on Monday. "He has not asked the party to be fielded in the debate. The party too has not approached him either till now," sources said. It is to be seen who opens the debate for opposition or initiates the debate in case the chair asks anti-BJP benches to take the lead.
