Sabah BN slams Jeffrey over 'federal arrogance' claim
KOTA KINABALU (May 16): Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) has fired back at Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan over his latest claims of 'federal arrogance,' saying the real issue lies with the state's leadership, not Putrajaya.
Sabah BN Communications Director Nik Mohd Nadzri Nik Zawawi questioned Jeffrey's repeated accusations against the Federal Government, calling them a distraction from his failure to deliver tangible progress for the state.
'Datuk Seri Panglima Jeffrey Kitingan has once again chosen to point fingers at the Federal Government, claiming there is 'federal arrogance' towards Sabah. But the reality is that under the 2025 Budget, Sabah received RM6.7 billion in development allocation an increase from the previous year. That clearly shows the Federal Government's commitment to Sabah,' he said.
Nik Mohd Nadzri said it was time state leaders stop deflecting blame and start showing results.
'If the allocations have been given, where are the outcomes? Why is Sabah still struggling with the same trio of problems — water, roads, and electricity? Isn't the majority of the allocation already channeled directly to state agencies and ministries?' he pointed out.
'So who is truly being arrogant? The Federal Government that provides, or the state leaders who fail to manage? asked Nik Mohd Nadzri.
He criticised the frequent use of slogans like 'Sabah for Sabahans' when, he argued, those in power have little to show in terms of actual performance.
'Stop hiding behind slogans when performance is lacking. Don't blame the umbrella when you don't know how to dance,' he said.
He noted that Jeffrey has held various positions over decades moving from opposition to government, and now serving as Deputy Chief Minister, but has reverted to the same narrative whenever challenged by the public.
'Every time the people demand results, he returns to the old drama: 'The Federation is arrogant. Sabah is oppressed,'' Nik Mohd Nadzri opined.
He also rejected the logic behind the accusation of federal arrogance, pointing to consistent increases in Sabah's federal budget and ongoing development projects.
'If Putrajaya were truly arrogant, why does Sabah's budget keep increasing every year? Why do projects keep moving despite limited state revenue? Why does the Federal Government continue to assist a state led by someone like him?' he said, adding that the people are no longer easily swayed by political rhetoric.
'The people know the difference between leaders who work and those who just shout. Sabah does not need leaders who trade in emotions, it needs leaders who solve problems,' he said and reaffirmed BN Sabah's stand against divisive narratives and empty slogans, saying real strength lies in leadership that is efficient, accountable and built on integrity.
'Our problem today does not stem from Putrajaya, but from hands that have failed to manage the people's allocations with honesty and trust,' Nik Mohd Nadzri stressed adding, 'Federal arrogance is the excuse of those who fail to prove their own success.'

BN-PH pact likely to continue for GE16, but may change after that, says Zahid
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said BN is firm on continuing its alliance with PH in the run-up to the next nationwide polls despite calls for it to go solo. PETALING JAYA : While Barisan Nasional plans to continue its alliance with Pakatan Harapan in the next general election (GE16), BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says its strategies for elections after that may change. Zahid, the Umno president, acknowledged that there were calls for BN to contest in GE16 on its own, but said the coalition is firm on continuing its alliance with PH. However, he said BN's political strategies for the general elections that follow will be determined by the electoral performance of the parties in the alliance, Berita Harian reported. 'We do not know how many seats we will have, and how many seats they will have. 'Remember that, in Malaysia, differences in views are conventionally based on differing party 'colours'. We are willing to forget our different 'colours' for the sake of political stability,' he was quoted as saying. The Umno-led BN played a crucial role in enabling Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to form the unity government in the wake of the 2022 general election, which resulted in a hung Parliament. PH had won 81 parliamentary seats while BN won 30, in what was the latter's worst electoral performance to date.

Political stability crucial for Sabah to match Sarawak's development
KOTA KINABALU: Political stability and leadership continuity are vital for Sabah to achieve development levels comparable to Sarawak, said Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) deputy president Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun. He highlighted that frequent changes in government have complicated efforts to resolve basic issues and sustain development. Since 1963, Sabah has had 16 chief ministers, while Sarawak has had only six premiers and chief ministers. Masidi stressed that Sabah must adopt Sarawak's mindset, where political stability and development efforts are prioritised. 'Compared to Sarawak, Sabah's problem is the frequently changing governments. This itself shows how politically unstable things are,' he told reporters after officiating the 2025 Gagasan Rakyat Women's, Youth and Beliawanis Wings Conferences. A key factor in maintaining stability, according to Masidi, is having a local party fully backed by the people, similar to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). He urged Sabahans to think and decide freely, emphasising that egoistic attitudes in politics remain a major obstacle. 'If we continue to hold on to the attitude of 'I must win, others must lose', the people of Sabah will never be united,' he warned. Masidi cautioned that Sabah's abundant resources would remain underutilised without unity and hard work from leaders and citizens. 'We need to consider the greater interest, to develop the state together,' he added. - Bernama

Children of late Umno leader join Sabah STAR
Jin receives Shabudin's membership form. KOTA KINABALU (July 26): Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah STAR) Beaufort is experiencing a notable political shift with a surge in new memberships, including several prominent local figures, as momentum builds ahead of the next Sabah state election. Beaufort parliamentary coordinator Jin Tze Vun revealed that among the latest to join the party are Shabudin Mohd Dun and his sister Noraina — the children of the late Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Dun Bin Banir, a respected former Umno leader in the area. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Jin said their decision was not political opportunism but a reflection of their alignment with Sabah STAR's unwavering stance on defending Sabah's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). 'The entry of these prominent individuals highlights the growing awareness among Sabahans of the importance of MA63 and the 'Sabah for Sabahans' movement. People are increasingly disillusioned with prolonged marginalisation by the federal government and are turning to parties that genuinely represent their aspirations,' he said. He added that Sabah STAR's consistent push for equal partnership with Putrajaya and greater state autonomy has garnered growing grassroots support across constituencies. 'The decision by the late Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Dun's family to join Sabah STAR is symbolic of a new chapter for Beaufort. Their support, particularly under the leadership of our president Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, reinforces public trust in our commitment to Sabah's future,' said Jin. He also thanked the party's vice president, Datuk Kenny Chua, for his continuous support and guidance. With the latest developments, the division is intensifying efforts to strengthen its party machinery, engage more communities, and prepare for the upcoming elections. 'We are united in our mission to serve the people and deliver the change Sabah truly deserves,' he added.
