Quebec's anti-corruption squad raids SAAQ headquarters
The investigative squad, known by its French acronym UPAC, has been investigating the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) since the end of February.
The SAAQ's headquarters are located on Jean-Lesage Boulevard in Quebec City.
On Wednesday morning. it confirmed operation was underway in a brief statement sent to Radio-Canada. UPAC said it won't provide any other information.
"We won't go any further in order to not compromise the collection of information, protect the integrity of the evidence as well as the safety and reputation of the people who could may be involved," the statement reads.
In 2023, the automobile insurance board rolled out its online platform, SAAQclic. The rollout of the new service was chaotic and sparked a customer crisis.
It also led to a report by the auditor general, which revealed that the SAAQclic project was $500 million over budget. Since April, the issues with the SAAQclic rollout have been the subject of a public inquiry.
According to Radio-Canada sources, about 20 UPAC officers took part in Wednesday's operation.
In a brief statement of its own on Wednesday, the SAAQ said that it was "fully co-operating" with UPAC's ongoing investigation.
Shortly after the $500-million cost overrun became public, a Coalition Avenir Québec minister stepped down.

Vance Boelter, man charged in Minnesota lawmaker shootings, makes federal court appearance
Suspect in Minnesota lawmaker shooting say he wants "the truth" to come out Suspect in Minnesota lawmaker shooting say he wants "the truth" to come out Suspect in Minnesota lawmaker shooting say he wants "the truth" to come out Vance Boelter, the man accused of shooting two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses, made another federal court appearance Thursday. He waived his right to a probable cause hearing and a detention hearing he had scheduled. The hearing lasted less than 10 minutes. He told the judge he was "looking forward to the truth about the 14th [getting] to the public." "Especially by waiving these two things that gets to get that faster, where the truth can come out," Boelter said. Boelter is accused of killing Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, as well as shooting state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette, who survived. He was charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office with two counts of murder, two counts of stalking and two weapons charges. Boelter may face the death penalty if convicted. He also faces state charges, and could face life without parole if convicted. Interim U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson on Thursday explained the federal case will precede the county's case because of the serious issues involved. "This isn't just a murder case, this is a political assassination. And there is every interest in having the department of justice go first and that is typical in cases like this," explained Thompson. The case will go directly to a grand jury, which is expected to hand down an indictment in mid-July. Boelter, 57, appeared in court last Friday, where his defense was granted a motion to move his detention and preliminary hearing. He told the court he hadn't slept in about two weeks and complained of poor conditions at the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River, Minnesota. The Sherburne County sheriff disputed those claims. Boelter on Thursday again complained about his jail condition at Sherburne County Jail, saying he didn't like that the lights were on all the time. The judge told him the courts have no control over the lights. After his previous hearing, Boelter was to be moved to a segregated area of the jail and taken off suicide watch. Authorities say Boelter impersonated a police officer and shot the lawmakers and their spouses at their respective Twin Cities homes on June 14. He was arrested at his Sibley County home after a 36-hour manhunt that officials said was the largest in state history. Police recovered more than 50 guns from his Green Isle, Minnesota, home and his vehicle.

Ondo, Pantera Capital to Invest $250M in Real-World Asset Projects
Tokenization platform Ondo Finance ONDO and digital asset investment firm Pantera Capital have teamed up to invest $250 million in real-world asset (RWA) projects as the red-hot tokenization trend is accelerating. The initiative, named Ondo Catalyst, aims to invest in protocols and infrastructure projects that enhance the development of tokenized finance and on-chain capital markets, according to a Thursday blog post by Ondo. The initiative will do a mix of equity and token investments, a representative of Ondo told CoinDesk in a Telegram message. "The financial system is undergoing a fundamental upgrade," Nathan Allman, founder and CEO of Ondo Finance, said in the blog post. "By supporting the infrastructure and applications that unlock real-world utility for tokenized assets, we're helping reshape how capital moves around the world." Tokenization is one of the fastest-growing crypto use cases and has captivated big banks, fintechs, asset managers and crypto native firms alike. The process aims to bring traditional financial instruments such as bonds, stocks and real estate, often dubbed RWAs, onto blockchain rails, promising more efficient operations, faster and around-the-clock settlements, broader investor access and programmable transactions. For example, Robinhood, Bybit, Kraken and Gemini have recently introduced trading with tokenized versions of U.S. stocks, while BlackRock and Franklin Templeton issue tokenized money market funds backed by short-term U.S. Treasuries. Ondo is one of the largest tokenized U.S. Treasury issuers, with its OUSG and USDY tokens having a combined market capitalization of nearly $1.4 billion, data by shows. The firm is also developing a layer-1 blockchain network designed for tokenized RWAs. The news of the partnership was first reported by in to access your portfolio
