'Acting on specific intelligence, the area domination patrol team spotted two persons carrying rucksacks. On learning that they were being spotted the individuals jumped into Tiau river swimming across to Myanmar leaving their back packs,' a statement issued by the Assam Rifles said.
On inspection of rucksacks, the team recovered 33 packets of Meth tabs (3,33,300 tabs approx) weighing 37.476 Kgs, which was likely being taken for distribution in Champhai town, the statement added.

'The recovered item was handed over to the police department of Zokhawthar for further investigation and legal proceedings,' an Assam Rifles officer said.
The Assam Rifles also seized 11 soap cases (128gm) of Heroin worth ₹96 lakh on Thursday night.

The Assam Rifles, responsible for guarding a 510-km stretch of the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram, has been actively engaged in curbing illegal activities along the border. The 23 Sector Assam Rifles Headquarters, based in Aizawl's Khatla, supervises three battalions, each operating six Company Operating Bases, to ensure stringent surveillance and security along the porous border.

NMC mops up Rs79L fine from road encroachers in 6 months
Nagpur: In a bid to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain public cleanliness, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has stepped up its campaign against those who block public roads by erecting pandals, shamianas, and decorative gates for private or public events. The crackdown is part of NMC's ongoing 'Swachh Nagpur' initiative, which aims to make the city cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful. Under the guidance of municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari, the civic body prioritised actions that ensure uninterrupted mobility and better civic discipline. To prevent traffic congestion caused by unauthorised encroachments during ceremonies and functions, NMC formed dedicated teams under NDS. These teams have been conducting regular inspections across all zones of the city. The squad's actions are also driven by citizen complaints, which are taken seriously and acted upon immediately. The Dharampeth zone topped the chart with the highest number of violations, where 1,212 individuals were penalised and fines totalling Rs17,89,200 were collected. It was followed by Hanuman Nagar, which recorded 1,174 cases and fines amounting to Rs11,59,100. In Nehru Nagar, 563 people were fined, generating Rs8,89,500 in revenue for the civic body. Other zones, including Laxmi Nagar, Dhantoli, Gandhibagh, Satranjipura, Lakadganj, Ashi Nagar, and Mangalwari, also saw significant action. In each of these areas, hundreds of cases were registered and lakhs of rupees collected in fines. "The campaign aims to sensitise citizens about the importance of keeping roads obstruction-free and public spaces clean. Tripura: Security forces seize drugs valued at Rs 30 crore
Agartala: In a major haul of drugs, the Assam Rifles, along with Tripura Police, have seized drugs worth Rs 30 crore on Wednesday, officials said. A defence spokesman said that during a routine check, the Assam Rifles troops and Tripura Police personnel intercepted a truck at Khayerpur in west Tripura, and during a subsequent search, three lakh highly addictive banned methamphetamine tablets were recovered from the vehicle. The estimated value of the methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba or party tablets, is Rs 30 crore. During the search of the truck, the driver managed to escape. The recovered narcotics have been handed over to the officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for further investigation and necessary legal action. This recovery highlights the relentless efforts of Assam Rifles in its ongoing commitment towards a drug-free Tripura and a drug-free northeast, an official statement said. Police suspect that the methamphetamine tablets, a type of drug that lets people stay awake and do continuous activity with less need for sleep, were smuggled from Myanmar via Mizoram and southern Assam, entered Tripura to be smuggled to Bangladesh. These drugs are made as pills, powders, or chunky crystals called ice. Ice, nicknamed crystal meth, is a popular drug, especially with young adults and those who go to dance clubs and parties. Myanmar's Chin state is a hub for smuggling of varied drugs, exotic wildlife animals and many other contraband through six Mizoram districts -- Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual and Serchhip. Mizoram shares 510 km and 318 km of unfenced border with Myanmar and Bangladesh, respectively. Meanwhile, Tripura's Chief Minister recently said that on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the state government has taken a zero-tolerance policy against the drug menace and its illegal trade. The Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that Tripura is being used as a corridor for the illegal drug trade, and the law enforcement agencies have always remained extra alert to curb the illicit activities.

"Major Accomplishment": Joint Forces Recover Large Number Of Weapons In Manipur
Imphal/Guwahati/New Delhi: The security forces in a joint operation recovered 86 firearms and over 900 rounds of different types in Manipur, the police said on Tuesday. Based on intelligence inputs about hidden weapons in the state's valley areas, a joint team of the police, central paramilitary forces, army and Assam Rifles launched search operations in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts, the police said. They recovered 86 firearms including five AK series assault rifles, three INSAS and 16 self-loading rifles (SLRs). The joint teams also found over 900 rounds of various types including 7.62 mm and 5.62 mm bullets, and high-explosive mortal shells. "These continued intelligence-led operations represent a major accomplishment for the Manipur Police and security forces in their continued mission to restore peace, uphold public order, and safeguard the lives and property of citizens," the police said in a post on X. They asked the public to cooperate with the police and security forces in promptly reporting any suspicious activity or information linked to illegal arms to the nearest police station or the central control room. These insurgents have not spared even the common people who are already in a difficult situation due to the ethnic crisis, social workers have said. The police also said they arrested 16 more insurgents and recovered 35 firearms in separate operations across the state. The state police, army and central police forces arrested 10 wanted insurgents from five districts and recovered 35 firearms including improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Six more insurgents were arrested in the last 24 hours from Bishnupur, Thoubal and Imphal West, all of them in the valley. Security Forces Face Resistance In Churachandpur There was tension from Monday evening till the early hours on Tuesday in Kuki-dominant Churachandpur district due to protests against an attempt to arrest an insurgent by the security forces, news agency PTI reported. The security forces tried to arrest the insurgent from Molhoi village on Monday evening, PTI reported. However, a huge crowd gathered there and stopped the security forces from arresting the insurgent. The mob grew in numbers and the protest intensified with tyres set on fire to block the road. Following the face-off, which lasted for some six hours, the security forces left the village at 1 am without arresting the insurgent, officials said.
