This full moon also coincides with the celebration of Rakshabandhan, the cherished festival that symbolises the bond between brothers and sisters.
However, this year, the rituals of Sawan Purnima, including the fast and bathing-donation, will fall on different days, while Rakhi will be celebrated on the same day as the bathing and donation ritual. Astrologer Dr Krishna Kumar Bhargava from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, shares key details about the timings and significance of this sacred day.
Sawan Purnima 2025 Date
Sawan Purnima Fast
The Sawan Purnima fast will be kept on Friday, August 8, as the full moon tithi concludes by noon the next day. The moonrise on this day will take place at 6:42 PM, and this is when devotees should offer Arghya to the moon. Worshipping the moon on Purnima Arghya is an integral part of the fasting ritual, believed to bring peace, virtue, and blessings.
Sawan Purnima Bathing And Donation
Scriptures emphasise the importance of Udaya Tithi for rituals like bathing and donation. Therefore, when Sawan Purnima fast is observed on August 8, Sawan Purnima bathing and donation will take place on Saturday, August 9. The most auspicious time for this is during Brahma Muhurta, from 4:22 AM to 5:04 AM. Bathing and donating on this day are said to cleanse sins and earn spiritual merit.
Rakshabandhan 2025 Date
Raksha Bandhan is a day when sisters tie Rakhi to their brothers and pray for their well-being, while brothers promise to protect their sisters. It's a celebration of love, protection, and a lifelong bond.
This year, Rakshabandhan also falls on Sawan Purnima, Saturday, August 9. As there is no Bhadra on this day, the festival can be celebrated throughout the day. The most auspicious time to tie Rakhi is between 5:47 AM and 1:24 PM.

Putrada Ekadashi: Check dates, time, auspicious yogas and other details
Putrada Ekadashi holds great importance in Sanatan Dharma and is observed every year on the Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Sawan (Shravan). Devotees worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this day and observe a fast in their honour. The vrat is believed to bring unfailing and eternal rewards, and with Lord Vishnu's blessings, one can attain Moksha. Devotees may take a holy bath and perform rituals dedicated to Lakshmi-Narayan Ji at a suitable time during this period. Putrada Ekadashi Parana Timing The fast for Putrada Ekadashi will be broken on 6th August, with the Parana window lasting from 5:45 AM to 8:26 AM. During this time, devotees are advised to bathe and offer prayers to Lakshmi-Narayan Ji. After the devotional rituals, they may conclude the fast by donating food and performing acts of charity. Putrada Ekadashi Shubh Yoga This year, Putrada Ekadashi will align with the auspicious Indra Yoga, along with the formation of Bhadraavas Yoga. On this day, Bhadra will remain in Swarga Lok until 11:43 AM before transitioning to Patal Lok. Worshipping Lakshmi-Narayan Ji while Bhadra resides in either Swarga or Patal is believed to bring blessings and fulfill devotees' heartfelt wishes.

Mega disaster management drill at 55 spots in Delhi-NCR on Friday
Last Updated: New Delhi, July 31 (PTI) A mega disaster management mock drill in Delhi-NCR will be conducted at more than 55 locations including markets, schools and hospitals on Friday. The district officials in Delhi said all preparations are in place for the exercise that will be participated by hundreds of disaster management personnel, first responders as well as members of non-governmental organisations, market associations and resident welfare associations. The drill will be conducted in all 11 districts of Delhi, along with Ghaziabad and Noida in Uttar Pradesh, and Faridabad, Gurugram, Palwal, Nuh and Rewari in Haryana to strengthen coordination and response mechanisms for major disasters like earthquakes and industrial chemical hazards, the officials said. 'The exercise will be conducted at four to six locations in each district. Members of all the government agencies have been instructed and rehearsals for the disaster management modules have already been conducted," said a senior Delhi government officer. The field-level drill will mark the culmination of a multi-agency 'Exercise Suraksha Chakra' designed to enhance emergency response coordination in the National Capital Region (NCR) covering 18 districts in Delhi, Haryana and UP. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said the mock drill will simulate a major earthquake scenario and test real-time preparedness, inter-agency coordination and public response mechanisms. All necessary preparations have been made to conduct the mock drill smoothly in all 11 districts of Delhi. This is a crucial step towards building a resilient city capable of handling major disasters, an advisory from DDMA said. As part of the exercise, residents may witness increased movement of emergency vehicles including ambulances, fire tenders, police vans and Army trucks. Sirens and public address systems may be used to signal the start of the drill. Temporary facilities like incident command posts, staging areas, relief camps and medical aid posts have also been set up. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), armed forces, civil defence, Delhi Police and other stakeholders will carry out simulated rescue operations, casualty evacuations and medical assistance to the mock victims, officials said. Pilot safe after F-35C crashes near central California Naval installation in US
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Lemoore (US), Jul 31 (AP) A pilot was safe after an F-35C fighter jet crashed near a central California naval installation on Wednesday, officials said. Authorities received a report that a military jet had crashed and was engulfed in flames around 6:40 pm, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said in a social media post. Responding deputies, firefighters, California Highway Patrol officers and EMS personnel found the wreckage in a cotton field just north of Lemoore Naval Air Station. The pilot, who had ejected, was found with a parachute in a nearby field, the sheriff's office said. He was flown to a hospital for evaluation and was expected to be OK.
