Call The Midwife star ties the knot with director fiancé and breaks wedding tradition as BBC star gushes 'we very much did it'

Daily Maila day ago

Call The Midwife actress Rebecca Gethings has tied the knot with her long-term partner, choosing a pink frock in a twist on tradition.
The 47-year-who plays Sister Veronica in the hit BBC series, married her long-term partner, the animation director Tom Brass, with whom she has two children.
Taking to Instagram, Rebecca confirmed her nuptials beneath a happy photo of the pair emerging from the Old Truman Brewery in London.
She said: 'I do, he do, and we very much did' which prompted a slew of Call The Midwife cast members to send their best wishes.
Renee Bailey who plays Joyce Highland, wrote: 'Wow.' And Natalie Quarry who stars as Rosalind Clifford, wrote: 'So gorgeous.'

Since first joining the series in 2023, Rebecca's character Sister Veronica who works as a nun and health visitor, has become beloved by viewers for her plucky personality and forthright manner.
Despite a shaky start, Sister Veronica proves her worth as she delivers babies, advocates for social care improvements and builds trust among her colleagues at Nonnatus House.
But earlier this year the Canadian-born actress told how she'd experienced some 'spooky' encounters on set, as several co-stars are said to have witnessed some 'weird goings on' amid rumours that the Surrey-based building is haunted by an Edwardian lady.
Rebecca told My Weekly magazine: 'I never go there on my own.' She went on to describe, 'lights going on and off and spooky male laughter outside the women's toilets.'
She added: 'Just outside Dr Turner's office, our medic heard a bang when they were locking up for the night,' Gethings explained.
'She went running in and took a photo in the dark, and when you zoom in, there is the figure of an Edwardian lady holding what looks like a pig.'
The period drama is filmed at Longcross Studios in Surrey, where a Victorian manor serves as Nonnatus House.
But aside from some spookiness, Rebecca, who is also known for her roles in the BBC comedy The Thick of It and Ricky Gervais's Extras, also confessed that the Call the Midwife cast are like family.
The cast and crew are currently filming the 15th series of the show which includes a two-part Christmas special set both in Hong Kong and Poplar, followed by eight hour-long episodes set in early 1971.
It comes after it was reported that Call the Midwife will reportedly come to a close after its 15th series next year.
The heartwarming show first aired in 2012 and has since put out 14 series, totalling to more than 100 episodes following the nurses and nuns in Poplar.
A Christmas special for this year has already been announced, with the cast said to be currently at work filming for next year's series.
However, according to The Daily Star, season 15 will be the show's last, as bosses want the popular drama to 'go out on a high'.
A source told the publication: 'After years of drama and countless births, Call The Midwife is coming to an end. The team have decided it's time to draw the show to a close and bow out.
'This is the last we'll see of these much-loved characters. Storylines will tie up a lot of loose ends. It's a bittersweet time for the cast and crew. They're all sad it's coming to an end, but they want to make sure the show gets the ending it deserves.'
However, the insider teased that there could be a special return episode one day in the future, saying: 'The writers are also open to the idea of reviving Call The Midwife for a special one day in the future. It's a case of never say never.'

Rod Stewart says Britain should ‘give Farage a chance'

Sir Rod Stewart has called on Britain to 'give Nigel Farage a chance' as he revealed how close he came to pulling out of his Glastonbury appearance. The 80-year-old singer backed the Reform UK leader ahead of appearing in the festival's afternoon legends slot on Sunday, 23 years after he headlined the Pyramid Stage. Advertisement 'I've read about (Sir Keir) Starmer cutting off the fishing in Scotland and giving it back to the EU. That hasn't made him popular,' he told The Times. 'We're fed up with the Tories. We've got to give Farage a chance. He's coming across well. Nigel? What options have we got? Rod Stewart has called on Britain to give Reform UK leader Nigel Farage a chance (PA) 'Starmer's all about getting us out of Brexit and I don't know how he's going to do that. Still, the country will survive. It could be worse. We could be in the Gaza Strip.' Admitting his wealth ensures 'a lot of it doesn't really touch me', he insisted he is not out of touch and expressed his support for Ukraine – criticising US president Donald Trump and vice president JD Vance for their treatment of Ukrainian president Volodomyr Zelenskiy on his visit to the White House – and Gaza. Advertisement 'It's depressing, what's going on in the Gaza Strip,' he said. 'Netanyahu doesn't realise that this is what happened to his people under the Nazis: total annihilation. And Trump is going to turn the Gaza Strip into Miami?' Stewart said a prolonged bout of flu, which forced him to cancel five shows in the US, nearly forced him to withdraw from a Glastonbury appearance he described to ITV as his 'World Cup final'. 'This time last week I was thinking of cancelling,' he told The Sun, crediting his wife Penny Lancaster with nursing him back to health. 'I have had Influenza A. It's been so terrible. It's the worst thing anyone could possibly have, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Advertisement 'Apart from (Vladimir) Putin. I'd wish it on him.' Stewart told The Sun he had negotiated an extra quarter of an hour on top of the allotted 75 minutes for his set. He confirmed he will be joined at Glastonbury by former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood, Simply Red's Mick Hucknall and Lulu, as well as performing the song Powderfinger by Saturday headliner Neil Young.

Justin Bieber gives major hint about state of relationship with Hailey amid marital strife rumors

Justin Bieber gave insight into the status of his relationship with wife Hailey Bieber on Friday. The 31-year-old singer — whose odd behavior has fans puzzled — was active on Instagram, sharing a slew of photos from their life with son Jack Blues, 10 months. The family-of-three appeared to be soaking up quality time as they kicked off their summer outdoors near a lake. Photos shared to Justin's account, which he just changed from @justinbieber to @lilbieber, showed the model holding their son, pickleball paddles, and walking near a golf cart. While the former child star has been frantically posting a barrage of online content in recent weeks, it's been reported that the Biebers' marriage is under a lot of stress. 'Justin's been a hard person to deal with recently because of what he's going through,' a source dished to Us Weekly earlier this week. 'It's been really hard on her.' The person added: 'Family issues have clouded her success.' But according to the Instagram pictures, which Bieber spread out through multiple posts, the spouses are sticking together. Jack was dressed in a blue and white Toronto Maple Leafs jersey and a pair of jeans in several posts. In another picture, which was also posted by Hailey, the infant sat in lush green grass on a soccer field. 'Justin's going through a difficult time, and Hailey is giving him room to get himself back on track. He's doing his best, but it's tough,' a second source told the outlet. The second insider claimed the pair have been enduring more 'ups and downs' than usual and 'things have been very tense in the last month.' 'Hailey's worried about Justin, especially with a [baby at home]. He hasn't been down like this in quite some time, so there's concern,' it was revealed. There was also a photo of Jack sitting as he played near another child As Justin continues to spark concern online over his bizarre social media posts, Hailey is said to feel frustrated over his 'loose cannon' antics. But, ultimately, the person close to the couple said: 'She knows that's part of the industry and who she's married to.' 'They don't talk about divorce,' the first source insisted. The second insider confirmed the odds of them calling it quits 'are very slim, especially because of their faith.' 'Faith is a big part of their life,' the source said. 'They believe they are soulmates and meant for each other.' 'They'll do anything to make it work,' the second source emphasized. 'They are going to get through it.'
