'This season it has been finding me'
Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy is having the season of his career.
Murphy had two loan spells in the Championship in his first three seasons at Newcastle - with West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday.
His career has been somewhat of a slow burner. Until this season he had not scored more than four Premier League goals in a season.
"I do have targets, but I never try to force it," said Murphy.
"I always let it come to me if I'm doing the correct things. That's how the universe works, it'll always find you. This season it has been finding me.
"I have a great striker in Alex [Isak] to provide for and great experience behind me. Everything is clicking to help elevate my game and then I think my game elevates others."
Murphy was part of the Newcastle team that beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final in March - and set up Isak's goal to make it 2-0.
That was the Magpies' first trophy since the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969 - and their first domestic one since the 1955 FA Cup.
Murphy also played in the 2023 Carabao Cup final, which Newcastle lost to Manchester United.
"Wembley was amazing," said Murphy. "The feeling was a lot different this time compared to when we were runners-up a couple of seasons ago.
"We felt ready. We felt this was our time. The build-up was good. A lot less nerves. Once the game started something felt different."

James Trafford to Newcastle United confidence grows with key date approaching
Confidence is growing that James Trafford will be Newcastle United's first signing of the summer after a patient wait from those inside St James' Park. After a pursuit lasting longer than 12 months, the Burnley stopper has certainly had to bide his time amid rampant speculation over his future. Advertisement The Clarets have stuck an inflated price tag on Trafford's signature of late after initially asking for £20m last summer. Since then, the goalkeeper has made history in the Championship and entered the fray to compete with Jordan Pickford at international level. All signals in recent weeks have pointed towards Trafford arriving at St James' Park, with movement expected in early July, when Newcastle will be on a healthier financial footing given the start of a new accounting period. The key date for the diaries is June 30, which marks the PSR deadline passing and a new, rolling three-year period starting. READ MORE: Newcastle United's transfer priority is staring them in the face and must be addressed READ MORE: Newcastle United stage 'quiet talks' with Alexander Isak as Liverpool clarity emerges Advertisement Personal terms have never been an issue, given an agreement was reached on that front in 2024. Discussing last summer's failed move, Trafford recently told Ben Foster's 'Fozcast': "The club that I was close to going, it was a good fit for me. It was brilliant for me and I really believed in it. 'I wanted to move, not just because I didn't want to play in the Championship, I had no shame playing in the Championship. I have no ego to think I'm better than the Championship. You only prove something by performing and showing people. You can say whatever you want but unless you perform. "It was just when an opportunity and a situation you think suits you can happen, you should take it and you should try and go for it, so I wanted to move. It was close but it didn't end up happening." Burnley have signed goalkeeper Max Weiss in a £4.3m deal from German side Karlsuher, only adding to the feeling Trafford was set to depart Turf Moor. Meanwhile, Nick Pope is expected to stay on Tyneside, while Martin Dubravka and Odysseas Vlachodimos could depart in the coming months. UFC 317 results: Ilia Topuria quickly KOs Charles Oliveira, shoves Paddy Pimblett
Ilia Topuria has gold around his waist once again. In the UFC 317 main event Saturday, Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) knocked out Charles Oliveira in 2:27 and claimed a championship – this time, at lightweight. Advertisement The fight was wild for as long as it lasted. Oliveira (35-11 MMA, 23-11 UFC) was cut in the opening minute. When he tried to drag the fight to the canvas, Topuria reversed his attempt and landed on top. Oliveira attempted a heel hook, which Topuria wiggled away from. Back on the feet, Topuria cracked him with a straight right hand that instantly snatched Oliveira's consciousness from him. Two more follow-up shots smashed Oliveira's face before the fight was waved off. After the fight, the UFC had Topuria rival (and next title challenger?) Paddy Pimblett enter the cage for a faceoff. The two exchanged words before Topuria shoved him backward. Topuria, 28, won the UFC featherweight title in October. He vacated the title months later, citing weight cut issues. A breakthrough star in the Spanish and Georgian markets, Topuria became the first undefeated fighter to win a second UFC title. Advertisement Oliveira, 35, moves to 2-3 in his most recent five bouts. Saturday's loss is his first knockout/TKO defeat since December 2017.
