RM100 Cash Aid To Have RM3 Bln Retail Injection, Boost Consumption
By Siti Radziah Hamzah
KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- The targeted fiscal measures announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday are anticipated to enhance near-term consumption, especially for essential goods and household items, according to Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd (Kenanga IB).
In its research note, Kenanga IB said among the fiscal measures, the one-off RM100 cash aid to every Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above, which would be disbursed on an individual basis rather than per household, was widening the consumption impact.
'We maintain a neutral stance on the consumer sector following the government's surprise RM100 cash aid announcement under the Basic Rahmah Contribution (SARA) programme, which marks the first cash aid for all adult citizens in Malaysia and could temporarily boost near-term spending ahead of the year-end festive season,' it added.
While the scale is smaller than previous stimulus rounds, Kenanga IB noted that mass-market retailers such as MR DIY, AEON, and Padini might see a modest uplift, supported by seasonal momentum and improved sentiment.
It added that additional cost-of-living measures, including a 3.0 per cent cut in the RON95 fuel price, toll hike suspension, and an expanded Jualan Rahmah MADANI programme, would further ease pressure on consumers.
'All in, we estimate about RM3 billion retail injection, comprising RM2.2 billion from the new RM100 cash aid, RM300 million from Rahmah MADANI sales and RM500 million in toll savings,' Kenanga IB said.
The investment bank noted that although the RM100 aid was restricted to essential items, the increase in disposable income might still lead to spillover spending and consumers were likely to reallocate some of their usual budget toward discretionary purchases.
'The impact is likely to be more meaningful for the B40 group, where RM100 represents about 4.0 per cent of monthly household disposable income, compared to 2.0 per cent for M40 and 1.0 per cent for T20,' it added.

Two Foreign Investment Projects Underway After Spate Of Trade Missions
Two foreign investment projects announced during the government's trade and investment missions abroad have now begun, refuting claims Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visits abroad are fruitless. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said Gul Technologies, a company announced during the trade and investment mission to China last year, is currently building its factory in Kulim, Kedah, with an investment of RM350 million for Phase 1. He said the project is set to create 350 jobs for locals. 'What is interesting is that this company is collaborating with Kulim Advanced Technologies Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Kulim Hi-Tech Park Corporation Sdn Bhd, which is responsible for training young talents. 'Through this collaboration, the company will employ 100 local technicians who will be sent to China for training,' said Tengku Zafrul in a post on X today. Meanwhile, another company, EDA, which was announced during the trade and investment mission to Italy last year, has started an investment worth RM100 million in Jasin, Melaka. 'EDA also has 150 vendors among local companies. This means EDA is not only creating jobs at their facilities, but also supporting Malaysian workers in 150 local companies,' he said. These two projects are among the 2,198 manufacturing projects that have been approved throughout the Madani Government's administration from 2023 to the first quarter of this year. The minister said that of that total, 1,849 projects, or 84.2 per cent, have been implemented as of July. Related

[UPDATED] Anwar rejects 'gimmick' claims, says thousands of projects rolled out
PUTRAJAYA: A total of 86.4 per cent of more than 3,000 projects approved between 2022 and now have been successfully implemented, refuting allegations that the government's investment initiatives are mere gimmicks. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the implementation rate proves the government's commitment to ensuring that every announced investment translates into tangible outcomes on the ground. "Of the 3,494 projects approved since 2022, 3,095 have commenced operations, achieving an implementation rate of 86.4 per cent. "Some claim that billions in investments show no results. This is the proof, the projects are up and running. "For 2023 alone, the implementation rate was 90.6 per cent, while in 2024 it was 79.2 per cent. For the first quarter of 2025, 49.8 per cent of new projects are in progress," he said during the Prime Minister's Department monthly assembly. Anwar said the approved investments are largely concentrated in the manufacturing sector, particularly involving digital and green technologies, which are among the key drivers of future economic growth. "I have informed the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, to continue detailing the locations and implementation status of these projects, whether in Kulim Hi-Tech, Johor, Sarawak, Sabah, the Klang Valley, or Kuala Lumpur. "These are not empty figures. They involve actual operations, real factories, and real job opportunities," he said. In a related development, Anwar said the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre (IMFC), established under Miti, has so far received 28,166 investment project applications, with a resolution rate of 99.9 per cent. "This is something I have announced, and the machinery behind it is the civil service. When implementation is swift and effective, we must acknowledge it. "If there are one or two complaints, that is normal, but do not paint a picture as if nothing at all is being done," he said.

Teo warns public of RM100 SARA scam links asking for personal details
MUAR — The public is urged to remain vigilant against fraudulent links circulated by scammers related to the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) initiative, which are designed to collect personal information, said Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching (picture). She said the scammers often employ deceptive tactics by sharing links accompanied by posters that appear convincing, incorporating official-looking elements such as the Malaysia MADANI and Bersama Malaysiaku logos to mislead recipients. 'One such example is the link which falsely claims to provide official information about the RM100 SARA aid and prompts users to submit their personal information. The Ministry of Finance confirmed yesterday that this link is fake,' she said. 'My advice is, if the information truly comes from the government, the link will typically end with '. – where 'gov' stands for government,' she told reporters after attending the MADANI Community Service programme held in conjunction with the launch of National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign here. She added that numerous complaints had been received regarding the matter, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had taken steps to block the fraudulent link. Teo said that such scams often evolve by creating new websites with similar names, such as ' or ' and urged the public to remain vigilant. She also stressed that no money will be deposited into e-wallets or Touch 'n Go accounts. Instead, eligible MyKad holders only need to present their identification cards at participating outlets, including Lotus's, Mydin, 99 Speedmart and selected grocery stores – to access the benefits. 'The primary role of the MyKad in this programme is solely to verify the identity of recipients. It has no connection to any e-wallet platform, so there's no need to worry if your MyKad isn't linked to certain applications,' Teo said. She also urged the public to rely only on official websites or verified social media accounts of government agencies, such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications for the latest and most accurate information. 'Our tagline for fake news is 'If you're not sure, don't share.' Today, I want to add: 'If you're not sure, don't click,'' she added. — BERNAMA
