Who Is Nikhil Ravishankar, The Indian-Origin Executive Taking Over As Air New Zealand CEO?
Indian-origin tech leader Nikhil Ravishankar has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air New Zealand, effective 20 October 2025. Currently serving as the airline's Chief Digital Officer, he has spent nearly five years driving its digital transformation and will now succeed Greg Foran, who is stepping down after steering the carrier through the pandemic and recent supply chain challenges.
Under Ravishankar's leadership, Air New Zealand has upgraded its technology backbone, revamped its customer loyalty programme and strengthened digital offerings, positioning the airline for the next phase of growth.
Board Chair Dame Therese Walsh noted that Ravishankar stood out from a global candidate pool due to his digital acumen, leadership skills and alignment with New Zealand values, according to a report by Reuters.
Before joining Air NZ, Ravishankar held senior roles including Chief Digital Officer at energy company Vector New Zealand and Managing Director at Accenture, serving across Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.
Ravishankar expressed gratitude and ambition: 'Airlines are complex, and safety underpins every decision we make," he was quoted as saying by NZ Herald. 'It's a privilege to lead an institution with such a legacy and future."
Air New Zealand operates more than 400 flights daily to 49 destinations with over 100 aircraft in its fleet. It's also deepening collaboration with Air India and both carriers have signed a bilateral codeshare agreement across 16 routes and plan to explore direct India–New Zealand flights by 2028, according to a report by the Economic Times.
Ravishankar's promotion marks a milestone as an Indian-origin tech leader elevated to helm one of the world's most recognizable airlines, reflecting broader industry trends favoring digital-first leadership in a rapidly evolving aviation landscape, Reuters said, citing aviation experts.

CTI urges Delhi govt to host shopping festivals on lines of Dubai, China
Agency: Last Updated: August 02, 2025, 18:00 IST Representational image (Image: News18) New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has urged the Delhi government to organise large-scale shopping festivals and business fairs similar to those held in Dubai and China to boost trade and tourism in the national capital. In a meeting with Tourism and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra at the Delhi Secretariat, CTI suggested that after the success of the Teej festival, similar events could be held around Diwali and other major festivals, according to a statement. The Chamber also proposed that fairs focusing on automobiles, footwear, furniture, home furnishings and food could be organised across the city, it stated. CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal said these festivals would not only promote local trade but also create employment and generate revenue for the government. He added that shopping festivals could be held under the banner of popular markets such as Chandni Chowk, with participation from local traders. The minister welcomed the idea and asked CTI to submit a detailed proposal and roadmap outlining which festival could feature which type of fair. Goyal pointed out that such events offer opportunities to small-scale sellers and entrepreneurs who do not have shops or cannot afford high-rent showrooms. 'He has his own reasons': Shashi Tharoor on Rahul Gandhi backing Trump's ‘dead economy' remark
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said he would not comment on Rahul Gandhi's remarks about US President Donald Trump's 'dead economy' comment, but said India's trade ties with America are important and should not be affected. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor during the Monsoon session of Parliament, in New Delhi.(PTI File) Tharoor, who represents Thiruvananthapuram in the Lok Sabha, said, 'I don't want to comment on what my party leader has said. He has his own reasons for saying it. My concern is much more that our relationship with the US, as a strategic and economic partnership, is important for us.' The Congress leader said India must protect its strong trade ties with the US, emphasising that America is one of the country's biggest export markets, with around $90 billion worth of goods going there annually. 'We are exporting something like 90 billion worth of goods to America. We can't therefore be in a position where we are going to lose that or have it diminish significantly. Some people say Oh, that is only 2 per cent of our GDP, but in terms of percentage of our exports, America is one of our largest markets,' he claimed. On the issue of tariffs, Shashi Tharoor backed India's trade negotiators, saying, 'When we look at the tariff question, we must wish our negotiators strength and courage in working out a fair deal for India.' 'We should also be talking to other regions for exporting our goods. Then we could make up for some of what we might lose in the US. We have to support our negotiators,' Tharoor added. Donald Trump recently stirred controversy by calling India's economy 'dead' while announcing new 25 per cent tariffs on Indian goods. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, 'India and Russia can take their dead economies down together, for all I care.' The remarks were seen as a sharp escalation in trade tensions and drew mixed responses from Indian politicians. Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi appeared to agree with Trump's view, saying India's economy was indeed in poor shape. 'I don't care what Trump said. The reality is that India's economy is dead. And it has been murdered by the BJP government,' he told reporters.

Odisha Guv asks real estate developers to invest in tier 2 & 3 cities
Bhubaneswar, Aug 2 (PTI) Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has called upon real estate developers to invest in tier II and III cities for balanced urbanisation and ensuring sustainable development. He also stressed the need for ethical business practices and customer-centric models to build trust in the sector. 'Odisha stands at a critical inflection point – emerging as the growth engine of Eastern India. Smart cities like Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri Corridor, and major industrial corridors are unlocking immense potential," he said. Addressing an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (Credai) on Friday, the governor said, 'The real estate developers should focus on tier-2 and 3 cities for balanced urbanisation and invest in affordable housing, green development, and digital infrastructure." The EGM of the association returned to Odisha after a nine-year gap. The event brought together a distinguished panel of national leaders, developers, policymakers, and stakeholders to deliberate on the future of real estate, investment prospects, and sustainable urban development. Credai president Shekhar G Patel highlighted the evolution of Bhubaneswar over the last decade, stating, 'From a twin city, we now see a vision for a dynamic tri-city cluster comprising Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri. This region is poised to be one of India's top 50 urban centres." He underscored the contribution of the real estate sector to India's economy. 'Currently contributing 8.4 per cent to India's GDP, it is the second-largest employment generator after agriculture. With RERA streamlining the industry, 95 per cent of the sector is now organised. By 2030, it is projected to become a USD 1 trillion sector, contributing 10 per cent to the GDP." Credai Bhubaneswar president and MLA Sofia Firdous said that with strategic central initiatives like the Smart City Mission, Bhubaneswar is emerging as the real estate capital of Eastern India.
