While Sharon has become an industry mogul and tele personality in her own right, a lot less is known about the life of Ozzy's first wife.
And so, since the announcement of the Black Sabbath frontman's death on July 22 2025, many have been wondering about the details of his first marriage.
Who is Thelma Riley?
Thelma Riley was Ozzy Osbourne's first wife.
The pair met in the 1960s while on a night out, and at the time, Osbourne was still establishing his career in music, while Riley was a teacher.
They eventually tied the knot in 1971, amid the rise in prominence of Black Sabbath in the music scene.

Osbourne met Sharon Arden, whom he would eventually fall head over heels for, while her father was Black Sabbath's agent in 1979.
Ozzy admitted in interviews that he was not the perfect husband or father during his marriage to Riley.
His skyrocketing fame, coupled with heavy drinking and drug use, resulted in a tumultuous and unstable home life.
The couple were married for 11 years before they split in 1982.
Ozzy Osbourne top five greatest moments
In his autobiography, Ozzy referred to their marriage as a 'mistake', confessing he wasn't present and was consumed by his addictions.
Since their divorce, the now 71-year-old has stayed relatively out of the limelight.
How many children did Ozzy Osbourne and Thelma have?
Despite allegedly contributing to a tumultuous home life, Osbourne and Riley shared three children together, who now live on as a memory of the Prince of Darkness.
Before meeting Osbourne, Riley already had a son.
Riley had a five-year-old son when she met Osbourne, called Elliot, from a previous relationship, whom Osbourne later adopted.

Jessica Osbourne was born in 1972, one year after the couple tied the knot.
They then had a son called Louis, who was born in 1975.
Jessica has carved out her career in the entertainment industry, reportedly as a Broadway performer in New York.
She has three children, and so was the first of Osbourne's six children (including the three he had with Sharon) to give him a grandchild.
Jessica has two daughters, Isabelle and Kitty, and a son called Harry.
Louis now works as a DJ and married actress Louise Lennon in 2004.
Osbourne was unable to attend his first son's wedding, following a major quad bike accident which left him suffering from major injuries.

Not much is known about Elliot Kingsley as he tends to keep out of the spotlight with no public social media accounts.
In the 2011 documentary film God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, produced by his son Jack, Ozzy revealed that he could not even remember when Louis and Jessica were born, reported MailOnline.
Louis has since opened up about what life was like growing up with a father with addictions.

Moment Sharon Osbourne beats up reality star to protect Ozzy goes viral after his death

A fiery throwback clip of Sharon Osbourne fiercely defending her late husband Ozzy is going viral following the rock icon's death on Tuesday at age 76, with fans praising Sharon's jaw-dropping loyalty. The moment, pulled from a 2008 episode of Rock of Love: Charm School, shows Sharon unleashing on contestant Megan Hauserman — who struck a nerve when she insulted Ozzy. 'The only thing you've managed to do as a celebrity is to watch your husband's brain turn into a vegetable,' Hauserman sneered. Sharon quickly turned to the audience and said, 'I feel so sorry for her,' before standing up, calmly taking a sip from her cup — and then hurling the rest of the drink in Hauserman's face. Security scrambled onto the stage as the situation escalated, but Sharon held her ground. 'They can f*** with me… I don't give a sh** — but not my family,' she told the stunned crowd with defiant flair. Hauserman later sued Sharon for battery and distress, while Sharon countersued, saying the reality star had assumed the risk and broken their agreement by suing. The case quietly settled in 2011 for an undisclosed six-figure sum. Now, with the resurfaced clip making the rounds, social media users are praising Sharon's undying devotion. 'The way she loved Ozzy is something not common,' one fan commented. 'She really, REALLY loved her husband.' 'Ozzy was so blessed to have someone as loving as she was,' one fan wrote. Another declared, 'Ozzy was the king of metal, but she was the queen. Never attack royalty.' 'GO Sharon,' one posted, while another added, 'She doesn't play when it comes to her man.' 'Yeaaass Sharon. Always stood by your man,' a fan chimed in. 'Yes Sharon! So much respect for that,' someone else wrote. 'Sharon is a boss,' said another. 'Icon, legend, moment,' read one viral comment. And one fan summed it up: 'Love Sharon for this. She's sassy and don't stand for disrespect. She's a real one!' The viral clip comes as Sharon spoke out for the first time since the death of her husband Ozzy, replying to heartfelt messages from fans. English musician Gavin Rossdale took to Instagram shortly after the news broke to pay tribute to the heavy metal icon. He posted: 'RIP OZZY - a great man -a true legend - i met ozzy through jack just a few times but he was so warm and kind and funny and i love that memory .sending much love to his family at this difficult time. Rest in power.' Sharon replied to his post: 'Bless you.' Ozzy Osbourne's funeral details 'revealed' with moving nod to his beloved hometown

Ozzy Osbourne passed away on Tuesday morning after his family shared the news last night and tributes have poured in celebrating the life of The Prince of Darkness A tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne is reportedly being planned for his hometown of Birmingham, ahead of a smaller private funeral. This news emerged just a day after the musician's passing was announced. ‌ The Osbourne family revealed last evening that the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath had passed away at 76, surrounded by his family yesterday morning. His wife Sharon Osbourne, 72, and four of his children released a collective statement. ‌ The announcement sparked a flood of tributes for Ozzy, who reunited with his former bandmates for a farewell concert in Birmingham earlier this month. Since then, flowers have been placed on the Black Sabbath Bridge bench and the bridge itself, as fans visit the site to pay their respects, the Mirror reports. ‌ It's now been reported that a high-profile celebration of Ozzy's life could be held in the coming weeks, before a smaller, private funeral. Among those rumoured to be involved with the memorial event is Yungblud, 27. Yungblud, who performed at Ozzy's farewell concert Back to the Beginning, earlier this month, was believed to have developed a close bond with the late singer-songwriter. He shared with fans that he was "truly heartbroken" upon hearing the news last night. ‌ A source told The Sun: "There are conversations about a celebration of his life in Birmingham, the city that meant so much to him. Artists like Yungblud, who was seen by Ozzy as a musician who could carry on the mantle of what he started all those years ago, is expected to have a role in it." They added that many celebrities will want to pay their respects alongside countless fans. The source said, "There are hundreds of big names who will want to pay their respects and celebrate his life and legacy, as well as thousands of fans who would line the streets to say goodbye." ‌ It was announced yesterday that Ozzy, who had battled various health problems over the years, had passed away. His wife Sharon and four of his children - Louis, Aimee, Jack, and Kelly Osbourne - released a statement. The statement read: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis." ‌ Yungblud, whose real name is Dominic Harrison, was one of the many who paid tribute to Ozzy after the news broke. He shared a heartfelt post on Instagram reflecting on their friendship, accompanied by recent backstage photos of the two together. The 27-year-old wrote in his tribute: "I didn't think you would leave so soon the last time we met you were so full of life and your laugh filled up the room. But as it is written with legends, they seem to know the things that we don't." "I will never forget you - you will be in every single note I sing and with me every single time I walk on stage. Your cross around my neck is the most precious thing I own. You asked me once if there was anything you could do for me and as I said then and as I will say now for all of us the music was enough," continued. Yungblud, who recently released a charity cover of Black Sabbath's song Changes, ended his tribute with: "You took us on your adventure - an adventure that started it all. I am truly heartbroken. You were the greatest of all time."
