Pottery to pickleball: Chennai techies turn to experience booking platforms for weekend recharge
Have you ever wondered how IT professionals in Chennai unwind after a relentless 9-to-5 shift? It is not merely about indulging in new activities out of curiosity; rather, it has become a form of respite, an antidote to the monotony of their work lives. This is where experience booking platforms come in, and why they have been gaining popularity lately. Experience booking platforms list a wide range of activities, from hand-built pottery to astronomy clubs, allowing users to browse and choose events without any hassle. 'We are seeing an increasing number of customers, who are IT employees, booking art or adventure experiences, such as decoupage, rock climbing, kayaking, and pottery, among others,' says Aashish J., co-founder of Scene Booking, a Chennai-based experience booking startup, who has opened branches in Coimbatore as well as Hyderabad, with co-founder Madhavi Khemka. 'Some say they turn to low-tech activities to cope with the burnout of high-demand tech jobs. Recently, we also added new activities, such as competitive remote control car games,' he adds. The platform has as many as 70 experience and adventure-based activities, details of which are listed in the same. 'Disconnecting from tech' George Samuel, an IT employee from Chennai, recently spent a weekend with friends learning to surf at a surf school in Kovalam. Next on his list is pickleball, and he is already browsing experience platforms to see what other activities he might try. While the routine of trying something new remains unchanged, the activities change every weekend. 'The goal is to completely disconnect from tech over the weekend and try the newest hobbies in town,' he says. 'That way, when Monday comes around, you return recharged to tackle the challenges at work.' The trend is not limited to a specific demographic — Gen X, millennials, and Gen Z are all exploring new activities. The only difference, says Mr. Aashish, lies in their preferences. 'Recently, we set up a pottery session for a large group sponsored by an IT company for its employees,' he says. 'A lot of couples in Chennai have been booking experiences like hug pottery and yacht outings through our platform,' he adds. He also notes that since launching the business post-pandemic, several new startups have begun following in their footsteps. 'Much-needed boost' Shiney Vinoth, in her late thirties, recently began planning weekend recharge activities to unwind after her Friday evenings at an MNC in Chennai, using experience booking platforms. 'Before the pandemic, the IT crowd in Chennai had the usual weekend options. It is not the same now,' she says. 'I have tried neon painting and pottery. Many of my colleagues have suddenly turned to art,' adds Ms. Shiney. With the grind of long working hours, creative hobbies that were once overlooked are now providing a much-needed mood boost for IT professionals. 'The main purpose of our experience booking platform is to make these activities accessible for people of all backgrounds, especially activities that were not well-known much, like tufting, but exists in Chennai. We are even trying to make golf pitches accessible to everyone,' shares Mr. Aashish.

Sudhanshu Pandey Slams The Traitors' Co-Player Apoorva: ‘Bad Language Kills All Goodness'
Last Updated: Sudhanshu Pandey emphasised how crucial it is to be mindful of language, especially in a show that reaches millions. Television actor Sudhanshu Pandey, who was seen as one of the Innocents in The Traitors India Season 1, recently opened up about fellow contestant and content creator Apoorva Mukhija. In an interview, he didn't hold back while addressing her dual behavior and use of abusive language on the show. In a conversation with Zoom, Sudhanshu said, 'It was how they speak about the same person on face and behind the back. This is the new generation, and they are a big lost because there is no sense of concept of culture that you belong to. Apoorva is a very good kid, she has got a kind heart but these kids don't understand ki agar aapki zubaan kharab hai toh aapki saari acchaiyaan saari doob jaati hai (If your language is bad, all your goodness gets overshadowed). Then you would not even want to know whether your heart is good or not." He emphasised how crucial it is to be mindful of language, especially in a show that reaches millions. 'Especially when you are on camera, you have about 20 crore people watching you and when you are abusing like it's their second nature. They think it is very cool to be like that because we are Gen Z," he added. Sudhanshu also weighed in on the leaked chat between Apoorva and fellow contestant Urfi Javed that has been doing the rounds. In the chat, Apoorva is seen congratulating Urfi, saying 'tune toh show jeeta hai (you have won the show)." Responding to it, he said, 'I have no idea, but in case there is some chat like this where they might be saying things that can be detrimental for their viewership, then it is wrong." The Traitors India, hosted by Karan Johar, concluded with Urfi Javed and Nikita Luther emerging as the winners. The final episode of the reality series dropped today. Olivia Rodrigo-Louis Partridge Kiss and Tell During Wimbledon Date, Launch Their Romance on Instagram
Pop star Olivia Rodrigo and actor Louis Partridge have made their romance official on Instagram following this year's Glastonbury Festival. The couple, who have been linked since October 2023, gave fans a glimpse into their relationship through photos, videos, and playful comments online. A public reveal at Glastonbury On July 1, Rodrigo shared a Glastonbury photo carousel featuring clips of her weekend at the British music festival. For the first time, she posted Partridge's face in her slides. In one video, she sits on his shoulders while watching another act. In another slide, he is seen spraying her with champagne as they celebrate backstage. Partridge liked the post soon after. This is the first time Rodrigo has shown Partridge so openly on her grid. Before this, she only shared photos where his face wasn't visible. Partridge made it clear he wanted to celebrate Rodrigo, too. On June 30, he posted his own tribute to her performance: 'I hope you caught Olivia's show last night. A truly special performance on such a huge scale. She worked her ass off for it and couldn't be more deserving of all her success and for the great crowd that was watching. What a moment #glastonberry.' Rodrigo replied in the comments, 'glastonBERRY ilysm.' Here's how they made it Instagram official On the same day, Rodrigo shared another post about Glastonbury and Partridge commented, 'Ur the best.' Fans quickly noticed their flirty exchange. The couple's sweet posts and open comments left no doubts about their relationship status. The hard launch didn't stop there. A day later, on July 2, Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge stepped out for a high-profile date at Wimbledon. They were spotted watching a match from the Royal Box, dressed in preppy outfits that matched the event's strict dress code. Rodrigo wore a red and white gingham Ralph Lauren shirtdress and thin glasses. Partridge coordinated with a light blue shirt, striped burgundy tie, and navy dinner jacket. Rodrigo and Partridge were first rumored to be dating in October 2023. They also attended the Grammys together, making one of their biggest red carpet appearances yet. Last fall, Partridge told ELLE about his easy-going approach to relationships, calling himself a 'Golden Retriever boyfriend.' He said, 'I think in past relationships my mind worked at a different speed to the women I've known. A bit slower. The way I would characterize it is like a Golden Retriever and a black cat. I can imagine being happy sitting and catching a Frisbee.'
