New mega-cheap bus route connects London with UK's best seaside cities

Daily Mirror30-06-2025
FlixBus has rolled out its biggest-ever expansion, which will see significantly more cities and towns connected up by the green goliaths - including tourist hotspot Brighton
Forget the idea that coaches are just for seniors and students - travelling across the UK by coach is about to get a significant boost this summer with the introduction of more affordable fares.
FlixBus, with its distinctive green buses, is expanding its UK network, which already spans over 80 destinations, including Brighton. As of June 13, new coach services will connect Cambridge, London, Gatwick Airport, and Brighton, operating twice daily.
Prices are extremely competitive, with tickets between London and Brighton starting at £4.49 and those between Gatwick and Brighton available from £3.49. The journey from London to Brighton takes approximately two and a half hours - an hour longer than the train - but at a fraction of the cost.
FlixBus is also introducing a direct service between Cambridge and London, running four times a day, to cater to the growing demand for tourism.
Andreas Schorling, Senior Managing Director of FlixBus UK, expressed his enthusiasm for the new services: "Brighton is such a vibrant, inclusive city, especially during the summer, and we can't wait to offer passengers the chance to visit for the first time on our network."
"The people of Brighton will now have a fantastic service to central London, Cambridge and Gatwick. Known for its dedication to sustainability, it's a perfect match for FlixBus.
"Londoners now have even more affordable, sustainable, and reliable travel options for weekend getaways, airport connections, and visiting friends and family this summer."
Brighton has been named as one of Time Out's top 50 cities in the world to visit in 2025, boasting attractions such as the iconic pier, the Royal Pavilion and its beach.
FlixBus has been busy throughout spring 2025, rolling out its largest expansion yet, adding new destinations including popular holiday spots like Bournemouth, Newquay and Truro.
The company now operates over 200 coaches across England, Scotland and Wales, providing nationwide travel that is sustainable, reliable and affordable. Tickets can be purchased at www.flixbus.co.uk or via the FlixBus app.
With a fleet of 200 coaches, FlixBus' business is thriving, generating a turnover of £1.7 billion from 81 million passengers worldwide each year.
"This feels like a new golden age for coach travel", says Schorling. "Over five million UK passengers have travelled with us since we launched three years ago and they keep coming back. By next summer, we'll have over 200 vehicles on the road, more than twice the size of the Megabus network at their peak."
According to TimeOut, FlixBus has managed to achieve something that Megabus couldn't. It writes: "It's made getting a coach - dare we say it - chic?".
"It would seem unlikely that a bus could build and sustain a place in pop-culture" says Eglantina Becheru, Director of Brand & Creative at FlixBus. "But against the odds, Flix has created one."

London transport is getting a colourful new look to celebrate TfL's 25th birthday

How did you celebrate your 25th birthday (if you're that old)?. Cake? Party hats? Overdoing it at a pub night? Well, TfL is commemorating 25 years of service with a glow-up, giving eight of its services a fresh new makeover. A new purple-blue design will wrap TfL buses, DLR trains, Jubilee line trains, trams and IFS Cloud Cable Car cabins. As well as featuring a new colour, the new design will depict a timeline of London's transport network achievements over the last quarter-century, including the launch of the Oyster card in 2003 and the opening of the Elizabeth line in 2022. In a first for TfL, the distinctive new designs will be in place on a number of vehicles across all types of London transport. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR), Elizabeth line, IFS Cloud Cable Car, London Overground, London Trams and London Underground, as well as on one of London's more than 2,000 zero-emission buses and a taxi, will boast the designs, while a special 25th anniversary roundel will also feature on Santander Cycles bikes. Commenting on the designs, London's Transport Commissioner Andy Lord said: 'We're excited to launch these special designs across a number of our services for the first time to mark the occasion, whilst also looking ahead to the next 25 years and all the improvements we have in the pipelines, such as those to make our network as accessible and inclusive as possible.' Deputy Mayor for Transport Seb Dance called the 25th anniversary 'a great opportunity to reflect on just how much our transport network has evolved and transformed in recent years, serving millions of Londoners and visitors to our city each and every day'. He added:, 'We're committed to doing all we can to invest in and improve our network further, so it is fit for future generations and the next 25 years.' And the next 25 years are set to be big for TfL. In the pipeline for London's transport network is a £2.9 billion investment programme to modernise the Piccadilly line, proposals to extend the Bakerloo line in southeast London and new Docklands Light Railway trains, which enter service next year. The anniversary celebrations don't stop at the redesign. TfL has organised an anniversary poster series highlighting its major achievements, and has hosted and planned a series of events, competitions and opportunities for the public to get involved. These include an upcoming 'then and now' photography exhibition and a poster design competition at the London Transport Museum, and a call-out for people to share their favourite memories from the network since 2000. Find out more about that call-out here. The specially designed transport skins will stay on the TfL network until at least the end of the year, so you've got plenty of time to catch them in action.

Man Utd set new Jadon Sancho price tag as talks held over transfer reunion

Manchester United continue to lower their price for Jadon Sancho in an effort to get him a move away with a third spell at Borussia Dortmund potentially on the cards Jadon Sancho could return to Borussia Dortmund this summer for just a quarter of what they sold him for four years ago as Manchester United remain determined to get him off their books. ‌ The forward is one of a number of players currently in limbo when it comes to their future. Sancho, like several of his team-mates, has returned from a loan spell away last term but is not directly part of the plans under Ruben Amorim. ‌ Sancho was at Chelsea last term and prior to that had a short loan stint at Dortmund, the club where he first made his name. The Daily Mail now reports that a third spell at the German club could be on the cards. ‌ United signed Sancho for just over £70million but he's been unable to deliver on that fee. As a result they're willing to sell up and a move to either Juventus or Dortmund is being talked up. The Manchester outfit would accept between £15m and £17m, which represents a mammoth loss. However that figure is necessary to tempt potential buyers given that neither Juventus or Dortmund have the finances to break the bank to land Sancho. United had a deal in place with Chelsea to make Sancho's loan a permanent deal, worth up to £25m, at the end of last season, but the Londoners chose to pay a £5m penalty to rip up the agreement. The England international is also entering the final year of his contract. He currently earns £275,000-a-week, a figure he would need to take a massive cut on, and his decline since moving to Manchester has seen him fall out of the picture with the Three Lions. It was at Dortmund that he was first capped by his country. Last summer when the German club reached the Champions League final, with Sancho playing a key role, there was talk of a permanent switch but club chief Sebastian Kehl admitted that finances were an issue. 'In the end, it will take money (to sign Sancho). A lot of money. Definitely more than we have at the moment, that's clear," he said at the time. ‌ As well as Sancho United have the likes of Antony and Alejandro Garnacho at the club, but they are trying to shift them in the coming weeks. Amorim has maintained the club have their valuations and opened the door to them being reintegrated into the squad if they do remain. He said: The club have a number for these players. If they don't reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. I understand the clubs are waiting for the last minute but they can have a surprise. I'm ready to receive the players."

Today, it provides the best of both worlds: it's fashionable and creative, yet still exudes that nostalgic British holiday vibe. ‌ And we can't overlook Margate Main Sands — home to some of the softest, golden sands stretching across 19 miles of stunning Kentish coastline. Margate's Cliftonville area has been hailed as one of the 'coolest' in the UK, and TimeOut has named the town as one of the top places to visit. It's no wonder that Margate has become a magnet for celebrities and Londoners alike, causing a surge in property prices. Keep a lookout and you might spot famous faces like Lily Allen, Sam Mendes, Olivia Coleman, and even some cast members from EastEnders, reports MyLondon. ‌ For unique experiences, Margate is the place to be. Attractions include the Margate Museum, the eccentric Crab Museum, the magical Shell Grotto, and the subterranean marvels of Margate Caves. The delightful Margate Old Town is packed with quirky, smaller museums and diverse shops spanning from vintage to modern styles. Celebrating its legacy as a coastal resort, Margate delivers all the classic seaside pleasures: numerous fish and chip outlets, ice cream vendors scattered across the seafront, beachside pubs, and even mini golf. A short walk from the shore sits Dreamland, a retro funfair that remains a beloved destination for families. The venue features traditional carnival rides, live music performances, and the Scenic Railway—Britain's oldest timber rollercoaster. ‌ After spending hours on the sand, Peter's Fish Factory at 12 Royal York Mansions in Margate offers glowing recommendations for your fish and chips fix. For those seeking a more formal dining experience, Margate also excels with food establishments like Angela's and Bottega Caruso, alongside trendy newcomers such as Sargasso and Fort Road Hotel. Those craving a cultural expedition should visit the Turner Contemporary gallery, which showcases diverse art exhibitions that easily match London's cultural offerings. Guests can participate in guided tours and activities or relax in the café overlooking the harbour. Should you be organising a weekend break, ensure you experience Margate's magnificent four-acre tidal pool, situated merely 1.4 miles from Margate Main Sands. The Walpole Bay Tidal Pool, loved by swimmers throughout the year and families, stands as the UK's largest and features "fresh water springs rising from the beach" within its boundaries. It provides a perfect location to breathe in the sea air whilst enjoying a swim or simply relaxing beside the water. To reach Margate by rail, the HS1 service from St Pancras to Margate takes just 1 hour and 20 minutes. Should you prefer to drive from London, follow the M2, A2, A299 (Thanet Way), then the A28.
