Meet Jayasudha, Amitabh Bachchan's onscreen wife from the iconic 'Sooryavansham'- Lesser known facts about the actress
While
Amitabh Bachchan
's towering performance remains unforgettable, how many of us truly know about the woman who played his devoted on-screen wife? Meet
Jayasudha
— the lesser-known but equally fascinating chapter of this cinematic legend.
A superstar in the South, Jayasudha's portrayal in Sooryavansham still resonates with audiences. Yet, her real-life story has often made more headlines than her filmography. From her early days as a teenage debutante to becoming a leading figure in Tamil and Telugu cinema, Jayasudha's journey has been anything but ordinary.
Her personal life, however, has been a rollercoaster that the media couldn't stop tracking. Jayasudha's first marriage in 1982 to film producer Vadde Ramesh ended swiftly in divorce. She later found love with Nitin Kapoor, brother of Bollywood star Jitendra, and married him in 1985. The couple built a life together, raising two sons who eventually followed their parents into the film industry.
Tragedy struck in 2017 when Nitin Kapoor reportedly died by suicide, after a battle with depression.
Left to raise her sons alone, Jayasudha showed remarkable strength in navigating life's harsh turns.
Years later, her name once again lit up the gossip columns when reports of a third marriage at the age of 62 surfaced, allegedly to an NRI. But Jayasudha was quick to set the record straight. The man frequently seen with her, she clarified, is a filmmaker keen on producing her biopic — not her husband, as widely speculated.
While often compared to contemporaries like
Sridevi
and
Jaya Prada
for her grace and pan-South appeal, Jayasudha has always stood apart. Her versatile performances, spanning decades and languages, have cemented her as a true cinema icon — even if her off-screen life has sometimes stolen the spotlight.
Behind the Sooryavansham wife lies a woman of resilience, grace, and quiet stardom — a story still unfolding, and one that certainly deserves to be told.

Actor Silambarasan provides financial help to late stuntman SM Raju's family after tragic accident on 'Vettuvam' set
In a deeply moving act of solidarity, actor Silambarasan TR has quietly provided financial support to the family of veteran stuntman SM Raju, who tragically lost his life while performing a dangerous car stunt on the set of 'Vettuvam', directed by Pa. Ranjith. Despite having no involvement in the film, Silambarasan's gesture has touched hearts across the Tamil film industry. The fatal incident occurred on July 13, 2025 during the filming of a high-risk action sequence. While preliminary reports suggest that basic safety protocols were in place, the accident has reignited urgent discussions about the safety and welfare of stunt performers, who often risk their lives for on-screen spectacle. Silambarasan's contribution came to light during an emotional interview with renowned stunt choreographer Silva Master, who praised the actor not only for his timely financial aid but also for his ongoing charitable efforts, often carried out without fanfare. 'Silambarasan didn't have anything to do with the film, but he stepped in for the family without any publicity,' said Silva. 'It's not the first time he's done something like this. He always helps quietly, from the heart.' SM Raju's death has sent shockwaves through the industry, and condolences have been pouring in from actors, technicians, and fans alike. Legal proceedings have also been initiated under sections 289, 125, and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) against director Pa. Ranjith, stunt coordinator Vinoth, Rajkamal from Neelam Productions, and vehicle owner Prabhakaran. While the production of 'Vettuvam', which stars Arya in the lead role, is currently under review pending investigation, the tragic loss has highlighted systemic gaps in on-set safety — particularly for stunt artists who often go under-recognised despite their life-threatening work. Meanwhile, Silambarasan TR, last seen in 'Thug Life' directed by Mani Ratnam, is currently working on 'STR49', a highly anticipated collaboration with director Vetri Maaran set within the Vada Chennai universe. Though not a direct sequel, the project has garnered considerable buzz among fans.

Director Pandiraaj: My films are documentations of Tamil culture and history
Talking about being lost in translation, Pandiraaj is clear that his films have their own target audience, and he urges people to know what exactly they are getting into before walking into watch any of his films, including the upcoming Thalaivan Thalaivii. 'Why walk into a family drama and criticise it for being sentimental or melodramatic? And when you write my films off as 'village' films or 'B and C centre' films, aren't you alienating the majority of Tamil cinema audience?' asks a stern Pandiraaj, who expresses his reservations about the way urban directors are intellectualised, and the rural directors are brushed off. 'A Tamil film can be deemed a major success only if it works outside Chennai. And if there aren't films made for them, what will they watch? Why do you want to push a pizza down the throat of a family that wants to have a bowl of comforting rice?' asks Pandiraaj, who signs off by saying that there is an audience for pizza too, and they must co-exist. 'If you don't like pizza, why go out of your way to criticise it? Each of us has their own tastes, and we seek the films we want to watch, right? No one's voice must be silenced.'
