Houthi militants Launch Surprise Attack on Yemeni Army Positions Near Saada

Saada, Yemen –Houthi militants launched a surprise assault on Yemeni army positions early Friday morning in the northern border area of Alab, Saada Province. The attack, which marks one of the most intense violations of the informal truce held for over two years, resulted in significant casualties on both sides. Military Sources Report: - The Yemeni army confirmed the deaths of ten soldiers and acknowledged numerous casualties among Houthi fighters, with dozens reportedly killed or wounded. - The clashes led to the destruction of three Houthi military vehicles, while Yemeni forces stated they had repelled the offensive and conducted a counter-attack, forcing the insurgents to retreat. - Bodies of some Houthi combatants remain scattered on the battlefield, suggesting the ferocity of the confrontation. Commanders from the Alab front stated they had been monitoring unusual movements by Houthi units in recent days, allowing them to prepare defensive measures ahead of the assault. Military analysts warn that this incident could jeopardize the fragile calm in northern Yemen and reignite a broader conflict along the border. There has yet to be an official response from the Houthi leadership regarding the operation. Meanwhile, local communities near the border have voiced concern over renewed instability and called on international observers to maintain pressure for de-escalation.

Yemeni Security Forces Arrest Espionage and Recruitment Cell Linked to Houthis in Aden

Aden – Security Belt Forces in the southern Yemeni city of Aden have arrested a covert cell allegedly involved in espionage and recruitment operations on behalf of the Iran-backed Houthi militia. The operation, described as 'high-quality' by officials, marks a significant breakthrough in counterintelligence efforts in the region. The detainees include two senior Houthi commanders—Brigadier General Abdul-Mumin Mohammed Ismail and Captain Abdul-Hakim Abdul-Mumin Ismail—who were apprehended following extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering. Both individuals reportedly held key military and administrative positions within Houthi-controlled areas in Taiz Governorate. Preliminary investigations revealed that the cell was tasked with monitoring the movements of southern military and security officials, as well as recruiting youth for combat roles. Authorities also uncovered evidence of forced child recruitment, a practice condemned internationally as a war crime. The suspects were intercepted at a mobile checkpoint near Aden International Airport after returning from a trip to Egypt. They have since been referred to the specialized criminal prosecution in Aden for further legal proceedings. Security officials emphasized that the arrests reflect ongoing efforts to dismantle Houthi networks operating in southern Yemen and to safeguard national stability. The operation also highlights growing concerns over cross-border coordination and the use of foreign travel to facilitate subversive activities.

Looting and Vandalism Escalate at Archaeological Sites in Ibb Governorate Amid Accusations of Houthi Involvement

Ibb – An alarming wave of attacks on archaeological sites in Yemen's Ibb Governorate has raised serious concerns among heritage experts and locals. More than ten historic locations have recently been subjected to excavation and organized looting, with local sources accusing groups linked to Houthi leaders of direct involvement. Among the most heavily targeted sites is 'Al-'Usaybiyyah' on Mount 'Isam in Al-Sadda District, where an armed group conducted a nighttime dig, triggering clashes with residents who tried to intervene. Other significant sites affected include the historic 'Al-Asadiyah Mosque' in Al-Mashannah, 'Mount Al-Ra'isi' in Dhi Al-Sufal, 'Yafouz Fortress' in Al-Udayn, 'Al-'Arafah Castle' in the ancient city of Dhafar, the site of 'Marit' in Al-Sayani, and the tombs of 'Mufaddal' and 'Al-Haddad' in Al-Sabrah. Eyewitness accounts suggest that armed gangs operate under the protection—either direct or indirect—of Houthi authorities. These groups reportedly smuggle ancient artifacts and manuscripts out of the country through sophisticated trafficking networks, with items appearing in international auctions and black markets. Yemeni heritage experts have warned that these violations pose a grave threat to the country's cultural identity. They are calling for urgent intervention from UNESCO and other international organizations to safeguard what remains of Ibb's historical legacy and to halt the global trade in looted Yemeni antiquities.
