RAM Announces Flight Disruptions Due to Paris-Orly Radar Failure
Doha – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) announced numerous disruptions to its flights to and from Paris-Orly airport following a radar system failure. The technical malfunction, which began on Sunday, May 18, continue to impact flight operations today.
The French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) requested airlines to reduce their flight schedule by 15% for Monday. This followed approximately 130 flights — representing 40% of the 330 scheduled rotations — that were canceled on Sunday.
RAM offered affected passengers two options. They could either postpone their travel free of charge within ten days of their original flight date or receive a full refund through their original payment method.
Passengers with updated contact information in their reservation received notifications via SMS and email. The airline recommended that customers check the 'Manage My Reservation' section on its website to monitor their booking status or update their contact details.
The Moroccan carrier advised passengers affected by cancellations not to go to the airport. Instead, they were instructed to contact their original point of sale or the company's call center to benefit from the assistance measures in place.
The DGAC confirmed Monday morning that the radar issue was not fully resolved. While the situation was gradually improving, it still required traffic regulation measures. The impact remained substantial with many flights delayed or canceled throughout the day.
Sunday's cancellations created heavy congestion at information counters across the airport. Many passengers were informed of cancellations at the last minute.
RAM indicated that disruptions could continue for up to 48 hours, depending on how the technical situation at Orly evolved. The airline stated it was monitoring the situation to minimize impact on travelers.
The DGAC had initially demanded a 40% reduction in flights on Sunday evening until the 11:30 p.m. curfew. A source from the airport confirmed to AFP it was a radar malfunction.
Paris-Orly, located 10 kilometers south of the French capital, handled over 33 million passengers in 2024. This represented half the traffic of Paris' central air hub, Charles de Gaulle airport, according to figures published by Aéroports de Paris (ADP).

Running until July 3, FFD4 aims to address the estimated $4 trillion annual deficit facing developing countries in achieving the SDGs. This figure represents $1.5 trillion more than a decade ago. The Seville summit culminated in the adoption of the 'Seville Commitment' or 'Compromiso de Seville,' an intergovernmentally negotiated outcome document that lays the foundation for a renewed global framework for financing development. The declaration advocates for better representation of Southern countries in global financial bodies, a tripling of development banks' lending capacities, and increased cooperation against tax evasion. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez asserted that 'it is time to take a step forward and not only reaffirm our commitment but redouble it. We must improve debt sustainability, ensure fiscal justice, and fulfill our commitments to international cooperation.' The conference builds on the momentum of the Pact for the Future, adopted by world leaders in September 2024, where countries agreed to boost investment in the SDGs, address growing debt burdens, and accelerate reforms to the global financial architecture. RAM to Launch Direct Flights to Zurich, N'Djamena, Sal Island, Munich in September
Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has announced the launch of four new direct international routes from Casablanca starting in September 2025. The new destinations include Zurich (Switzerland), N'Djamena (Chad), Sal Island (Cape Verde), and Munich (Germany), the airline said in a statement on Monday. Starting September 17, RAM will open a new route to Zurich, with two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Sundays. The flight will depart from Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport at 8 a.m. local time, arriving in Zurich at 12:10 p.m. local time. The return flight will leave Zurich at 1:10 p.m. and arrive in Casablanca at 3:25 p.m. On the same day, RAM will also strengthen its African network by launching a new route to N'Djamena, the capital of Chad. Flights will operate twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Departure from Casablanca is scheduled for 11:10 p.m., arriving in N'Djamena at 4:35 a.m. the next day. The return flight will leave N'Djamena at 5:35 a.m. and land in Casablanca at 10:55 a.m. Then, on September 18, RAM will begin a new route to Sal Island in Cape Verde, with two flights per week, on Thursdays and Sundays. The flight will depart Casablanca at 11:00 p.m. and arrive at Amílcar Cabral International Airport at 12:45 a.m. the next day. Return flights will be on Fridays and Mondays, leaving Sal at 1:45 a.m. and arriving in Casablanca at 7:05 a.m. Finally, starting October 20, the Moroccan national carrier will launch a direct route to Munich, Germany, also with two flights per week, on Mondays and Fridays. The flight will leave Casablanca at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Munich at 6 p.m. local time. The return flight will depart Munich at 7 p.m. and land in Casablanca at 9:35 p.m. With these new connections, Royal Air Maroc aims to expand its international network and offer more travel options for passengers and support stronger ties between Morocco and Europe and Africa. In addition to expanding its flight network, Royal Air Maroc is also strengthening its presence in the world of sports through a landmark partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The airline has been named the 'Official Global Partner' of several major CAF tournaments, including the upcoming AFCON 2025 and Women's AFCON 2024 in Morocco.
