AI mastery essential for progressive society says DPM Fadillah
Fadillah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya, said in today's fast-evolving digital landscape, enhancing digital skills is a shared responsibility that benefits individuals, families, and the wider community.
'Learning has no age limit. As long as we are able, seeking knowledge is a noble pursuit that benefits not just ourselves, but also those around us.
'In a world that is constantly changing, it is our responsibility to keep improving our skills and adapting to digital transformation,' he said in a Facebook post today.
Earlier, Fadillah visited the 'AI for MY Future' training programme held in the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency at the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) in Kuching.
The programme brought together 150 participants, including 51 community leaders, 33 teachers, and 24 entrepreneurs, and focused on the application of AI in areas such as data analytics, document creation, and digital management and reporting.
Fadillah highlighted the value of tools like Microsoft Co-Pilot, especially for community leaders who often work without sufficient administrative support.
'With tools like Microsoft Co-Pilot, they can now carry out their duties more efficiently and professionally – from preparing reports and communication materials to managing data,' he said.
He also thanked the organisers and encouraged similar initiatives to be extended to other areas.
'My message to all participants - with the knowledge and understanding of AI and digital transformation, we not only enhance our individual capabilities but also drive meaningful change in our communities,' he added. - Bernama

The setup for the age verification app is built on the same technical specifications as the European Digital Identity Wallet which will be rolled out next year. The five countries can customise the model according to their requirements, integrate into a national app or keep it separately. The EU executive also published guidelines for online platforms to take measures to protect minors as part of their compliance with the bloc's Digital Services Act (DSA). The landmark legislation, which became applicable last year, requires Alphabet's Google, Meta Platforms, ByteDance's TikTok and other online companies to do more to tackle illegal and harmful online content. Elon Musk's X, TikTok, Meta's Facebook and Instagram and several adult content websites are currently being investigated by EU regulators on whether they comply with the DSA. EU regulators said the new guidelines would help online platforms to tackle addictive design, cyberbullying, harmful content and unwanted contact from strangers. "Platforms have no excuse to be continuing practices that put children at risk," EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen said in a statement. The effect of social media on children's mental health has become a growing global concern, with dozens of U.S. states suing Meta, while Australia last year banned social media for children under 16. Johor religious school canteens to get halal certification by 2024
JOHOR BAHRU: A total of 138 government religious school canteens in Johor will receive halal certification by the end of this year. The initiative is part of the Johor State Halal Development Plan 2030, aimed at improving compliance and awareness among food providers. State Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said the first phase covers 50 Grade A and 88 Grade B school canteens. The remaining 437 Grade C canteens will be addressed in stages starting next year. 'This initiative is part of the state government's efforts to reach the target of 500 new halal certificates by the end of this year as an initial step towards achieving 5,000 by 2030,' he said in a Facebook post. The state government also plans to expand halal certification efforts to the private sector, supporting the development of a stronger halal ecosystem in Johor. Currently, Johor has 1,200 halal certificate holders, a number expected to grow with the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) development. 'Halal is not only a religious obligation for Muslims, but it has also been recognised as a benchmark for high standards of cleanliness, management, and business integrity,' Mohd Fared added. The Johor State Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) and Johor State Islamic Religious Council (MAIJ) are working on a more efficient halal certification process to encourage more applicants. Marang new bridge project set for completion by January 2027
MARANG: The new Marang Bridge project across Sungai Marang, part of Federal Route 3 (FT003) linking Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan, is on track for completion by January 2027. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi confirmed the progress, stating the project has reached 54.7% completion as of June 30. The RM338 million project, managed by the Public Works Department (JKR), began construction on December 9, 2021. It includes a 2.5-kilometre stretch along FT003, featuring a 220-metre bridge over Sungai Marang and a 680-metre flyover bypassing Marang town. Existing roads will also be upgraded over a 1.5-kilometre span. Nanta addressed delays caused by land acquisition issues, now resolved, and assured no further extensions. 'The contractor and officials have confirmed no more EOTs (extensions of time),' he said during a site inspection. The new four-lane bridge will replace the outdated 1950s structure, notorious for congestion during peak seasons. Its higher clearance will allow fishing boats from Zone C to navigate upstream without obstruction, benefiting the local fisheries sector. 'Beyond easing traffic, this bridge will stimulate Marang's economy, particularly in fisheries and maritime logistics,' Nanta added. The project was prioritised under the 12th Malaysia Plan due to rising traffic demands. - Bernama
