Rugby-Kleyn ruled out of Springboks squad to face Italy due to injury

CAPE TOWN (Reuters) -South Africa lock Jean Kleyn has left the Springboks squad preparing for Saturday's test with Italy in Pretoria following an unspecified injury picked up in the 54-7 win over the Barbarians, officials have confirmed.
The 31-year-old will return to his Irish club Munster to undergo rehabilitation, suggesting the injury is a serious one.
"We feel for Jean, but injuries are part of the game, and we are fortunate to have good depth at lock within the squad so there is no need for us to replace him at this stage," Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus said.
Kleyn partnered Lood de Jager in the second row in Saturday's win over the Barbarians in Cape Town, with the latter playing his first game for the side in two years following shoulder issues.
South Africa have two tests against Italy in July and a further fixture with Georgia before they start their Rugby Championship title defence in August.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former shuttler Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin is set to strengthen the singles coaching set-up in the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). Iskandar has been instrumental in the rise of men's singles player Nhat Nguyen, who is now ranked No. 31 in the world, and has helped elevate the profile of Irish badminton. Under his guidance, Ireland qualified two players for the Paris Olympics last August, namely Nguyen and women's singles shuttler Rachael Darragh, marking a major milestone for the country. Iskandar first joined Ireland as a sparring partner for Nguyen during his preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He was later appointed as Nguyen's full-time coach and eventually took over the entire singles programme. Nguyen came close to realising Iskandar's dream of winning a European medal this year, reaching the quarter-finals in Horsens, Denmark, before losing to France's Alex Lanier. In the Malaysian Masters in May, Iskandar guided Nguyen to a win over homester Leong Jun Hao in the first round. Rugby-Springboks utility front row Wessels expects tough Italy battle
(Reuters) -World champions South Africa will not underestimate Italy when the teams meet in Pretoria on Saturday in the first of two tests this month, but utility front row Jan-Hendrik Wessels says they are targeting dominance in the scrums. Bulls forward Wessels, 24, who can play either prop or hooker, scored a try in Saturday's 54-7 romp past the Barbarians in Cape Town, but expects a totally different challenge at Loftus Versfeld. "I faced Zebre Parma and Benetton in the United Rugby Championship, and we did our homework on those players then, so we know the emphasis they place on the scrums," Wessels told reporters on Monday. "In fact, Zebre Parma had one of their best seasons this year and beat a few big teams in the competition, so we are expecting a proper battle against them (Italy). "We want to go into this match setting a high standard for ourselves. We have massive respect for all the teams we face, and knowing how strong their scrums are, we really want to make a big impact in the set pieces." Wessels is one of several of the Springboks players who can feature in multiple positions, with centre Andre Esterhuizen playing at flank against the Barbarians. Both know that versatility gives them a better chance of playing. "I don't have a preference (for prop or hooker)," he said. "I just want to contribute wherever I am picked. Playing both positions certainly helped me in getting game time."
