All-Ireland winning Mayo ladies teams to be honoured at All-Ireland finals in Croke Park

Members of the All-Ireland winning teams of 1999 and 2000 will be presented to the crowd at half-time in the All-Ireland intermediate decider between Laois The Mayo team that won the Brendan Martin Cup in 1999 broke the mould by becoming the first Mayo team ever to win an All-Ireland senior football title. The historic 1999 win saw Mayo overcome Waterford in a 0-12 0-8 victory. Finbar Egan's side retained their title the following year by beating the Déise 3-6 0-14. The Mayo teams of 1999 and 2000 included eleven-time All-Star Cora Staunton and current Mayo LGFA Chairperson Sinéad Stagg (née Costello). 'As Chairperson of Mayo LGFA, I'm delighted to see our All-Ireland winning players of '99 and '00 being honoured on All-Ireland final day in Croke Park,' Sinéad told the Irish Independent. 'It's hard to believe it's 26 years since Mayo won our first senior All-Ireland against all odds. 'It's a special day for any player to play in Croke Park, the field of dreams, so to be brought back 25 plus years later is something really special. 'Personally, I've great memories of the 99 final, having worn the number 12 and scoring the last point of the decade in Croke Park while the original Hogan Stand and was still standing,' added the Ballinrobe native, who played her club football with Hollymount, where she now lives with her family. The 1999 Mayo ladies' team was captained by Diane O'Hora. Maria Staunton captained Mayo to the All-Ireland title the following year. Elsewhere, it has been reported that O'Hora will be applying for the position of Mayo senior ladies football team manager. The Ballina native, who has managed the Roscommon and Kildare senior ladies teams, intends to fill the role held by Liam McHale for two years. Mayo were relegated to Division 2 of the league earlier this year but retained their senior status after a relegation play-off win over Leitrim.
