Keith Andrews knows he will be afforded no honeymoon period at Brentford
But he admitted he will be afforded no honeymoon period as he takes over from Thomas Frank who has headed across London to Tottenham.
Despite being dealt a tricky start to the season – with Brentford set to play Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester City and United – in their first seven games, Andrews stressed his lack of experience will not guarantee extra patience from the club hierarchy.
The Irishman said: 'I've been given no assurances, the reality is that it's a football club that has been built in a certain way and we have ways to do things which aren't the norm.
'The support Thomas had throughout his tenure was impeccable, the relations he built were very connected and aligned and I don't see that being any different.'
Former Ireland midfielder Andrews has been coaching in some capacity since he was 29 and still playing. He opened up on the risks he has taken to get to this point, including becoming a set-piece coach under Frank at Brentford last summer.
'I think I left MK Dons as a first-team coach in the Championship nine years ago and every single person whose opinion I valued told me to stay because jobs in football are very difficult to find,' he said.
'But I knew it wasn't right for one reason or another, I needed to go in a different direction.
'I'm under no illusions this is going to be a difficult job but I feel like the foundations I've put in place give me the best possible chance to succeed – and the people around me.'

Son of an Irishman, James McCabe's Wimbledon journey came to an abrupt end after being beaten in straight sets in the opening round at SW19.
