Police probe murder after missing man found dead in Olievenhoutbosch
Pretoria Rekord reports that, according to police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk, officers were called to assist at the R55 and Waterberg Road crossing, where the body was found lying in the river.
'It was clear that the body had been there for quite some time,' says Van Dyk.
He said that while officers were still on the scene, Balanganani's wife and brother arrived and identified the body as his.
'Trauma counsellors were called to assist the family on scene.
'Balanganani was declared deceased on site, and a murder case has since been opened,' he adds.
The exact circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death are still under investigation.
Details from a missing person notice show that Balanganani was last seen on June 29 near the R55 Chillout area in Olievenhoutbosch.
Van Dyk confirmed that later that same day, his family opened a missing person's case at the Olievenhoutbosch Police Station after he failed to return home.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.

Benoni City Times reports that Anton Koen of NoJack Vehicle Tracking said private security, local SAPS, as well as members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) responded to the incident, which he described as gruesome. Paul Apicella, from the neighbouring Paarl Street, said that the suspect had been walking the streets that morning, wielding what he described as a panga. 'The man was swinging the weapon around, screaming and ranting,' said Apicella. 'Pedestrians could be heard screaming and running in all directions. It was chaos, people locked themselves in their homes out of fear.' Shanwill da Costa, a local youth who had been living under the mentorship of the Tamil priest for the past four years, said that at about 13:30, Naidoo approached his assailant to calm the situation. 'Uncle Roy was standing in the road next to him, speaking in his characteristic calm manner. It seemed like the situation was simmering down,' said Da Costa. 'The suspect started swinging the weapon, and the next minute, Uncle Roy was on the ground. I tried to help, but could not get close enough. I felt incredibly helpless.' Koen confirmed that after the incident, the suspect fled into his home, barricading himself inside. 'Following a brief exchange of fire, SAPS members tactically breached the property,' he said. 'The man was found on his bed with a gunshot wound. He was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment.' Sitting in Naidoo's living room, Queenie said that her brother's home and Ashram (temple) have, for more than two decades, served as a beacon of hope for the community. 'Roy has served as a spiritual leader for 45 years, assisting weary souls with guidance and care,' she said. 'Despite not being in good health, he sourced food donations from local businesses to provide those in need with a weekly meal and a diligently packed food hamper. His life was dedicated to caring for everyone regardless of faith and culture.' She said that Roy's two children, as well as his surviving five siblings, are grappling to come to terms with his death. 'It would have been easier to accept his physical departure if it were due to natural causes,' she said. 'This burden is too heavy to carry. We leave Roy's attacker in the hands of God, for only He can judge.' A funeral service will be held at Naidoo's Caledon Street home tomorrow (August 2). New police minister warns against 'shoot to kill' tactics
Newly appointed Police Minister, Professor Firoz Cachalia, has warned against the abuse of police power and the use of deadly force, stating it could lead to tragic incidents like the Marikana massacre or the killing of Andries Tatane during a service delivery protest. Speaking shortly after his swearing-in at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Friday, Cachalia rejected any 'shoot to kill' approach within the South African Police Service (SAPS). Cachalia, a constitutional law expert and former chair of the National Anti-Corruption Council, said he intends to serve with integrity and independence. 'I'm not driven by ambition or political ambition. I've been given a task, and I'm going to tackle that task without fear or favour, subject, of course, to the President's guidance as a member of Cabinet.' Cachalia faced political pressure and ongoing allegations of corruption within the SAPS but maintained a calm, resolute stance, saying external noise would not distract him. 'I understand the moment the country is in and the awesome weight of the responsibility I carry, along with others in government,' he added. Wentworth police clamp down on illegal scrapyard
A MAN accused of operating an illegal scrapyard in Wentworth is due to appear at the Wentworth Magistrate's Court today (August 1). The suspect (57) was arrested during a sting operation conducted by Metro Police Street Crime unit on July 31. It is alleged that the suspect was receiving suspected stolen goods from people for the purpose of reselling them. Also read: Operation Good Hope returns to The Bluff The police found copper pipes, brass tops believed to have been stolen from places of worship, and several other copper items believed to have been stolen from churches. The man is facing charges of operating a scrapyard without a valid licence and possession of suspected stolen property.
