"Why doesn't the EC hold a press conference?": Congress' Shama Mohamed slams ECI over their claims of foreign nationals in Bihar voter list
A large number of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar have been found by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with Aadhaar cards, domicile certificates and ration cards during house-to-house visits carried out as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, according to sources.
While speaking to ANI, Shama Mohamed asked why the ECI doesn't hold a press conference over the issue, stating that the Supreme Court has clearly said that the Election Commission has no right to decide the 'citizenship' of Indians in India.
'Why doesn't the Election Commission hold a press conference about all these Bangladeshis or Rohingyas, they claim were in the voter list of Bihar?... The Supreme Court clearly says that the EC has no right to decide on the citizenship of Indians in India. It is the right of the Home Ministry', Shama Mohamed told ANI.
She asserted that the National Democratic Alliance won 30 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, which became 'null and void' due to ECI's claim of 'Rohingyas and Bangladeshis' in the Bihar voter list.
'Last year, the NDA won 30 seats in the Lok Sabha, so that all becomes null and void because they keep saying that there are Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in the voter list... We want to hear the truth', Mohamed said.
ECI sources say that after a proper enquiry to be conducted from 1 Aug till 30 Aug, if found true, such names shall not be included in the final list to be published on 30 Sep 2025.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said till Saturday evening 80.11 per cent of electors in Bihar submitted their forms, adding that the commission is moving ahead to complete the collection of Enumeration Forms (EFs) before the stipulated time, July 25.
Bihar will have assembly polls later in the year. (ANI)

The government sought coordination with the opposition in the smooth running of the month-long session. At the customary meeting ahead of the session beginning Monday, the opposition raised various issues, including voter roll revision in Bihar, the Pahalgam terror attack and Trump's 'ceasefire' claims. New Delhi, Jul 20 (PTI) The government on Sunday told an all-party meeting that it is ready to discuss all issues raised by the opposition in the Monsoon session of Parliament, and asserted that it will respond appropriately to demands for a response on US President Donald Trump's claims on Operation Sindoor. There should be govt-opposition coordination in running Parliament smoothly, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters after the meeting. The government, he emphasised, is open to discussing all issues in Parliament in line with rules and traditions and asserted that the government was very much open to discussing important issues like Operation Sindoor. Talking to reporters after the meeting, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said his party sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on Trump's claims, 'lapses' which led to the Pahalgam attack and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of poll rolls in Bihar. He said it was incumbent on PM Modi to give a statement in Parliament on key issues raised by his party. Sanjay Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said he raised the alleged 'poll scam' of SIR in Bihar and Trump's claim that he brokered 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan, at the meet. BJD's Sasmit Patra said the Centre can't escape responsibility from the 'failing' law and order in states and Parliament should debate it. He was referring to an incident of self-immolation by a college student and another case of a 15-year-old being set on fire by a group of men in Odisha. Patra said there was a 'complete collapse' of law and order in Odisha and the BJP government there was 'helpless' and has 'failed'. CPI(M)'s John Brittas said Prime Minister Modi should speak in Parliament on Trump's claims on Operation Sindoor and Pahalgam terror attack. Leaders of various political parties attended the meeting chaired by Union minister and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha J P Nadda. All-party meet: Opposition seeks debate on Bihar SIR, Pahalgam, Trump's claims; 'open to discussion,' says Rijiju
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday said that the BJP-led central government is "very much open to discussing important issues like Operation Sindoor in Parliament" amid pressing demand from the Opposition parties for a debate on US President Donald Trump's controversial claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. "The government will respond appropriately in Parliament," the minister told media after the meeting. Stressing there should be "government-opposition coordination" for the smooth running of the Parliament, Rijiju said that the government is "open to discussing all issues in line with rules and traditions." The all-party meeting convened by the Union government ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament saw the Opposition raise a host of contentious issues — including voter roll revisions in Bihar, the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, and Trump's claims. While the government sought the cooperation of opposition parties for the smooth conduct of the House, the meeting quickly pivoted to pointed demands for accountability. Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, told reporters that his party had asked for a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Trump's remarks, what he described as 'lapses' that led to the Pahalgam attack, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. 'It is incumbent on PM Modi to give a statement in Parliament on key issues raised by the Congress,' Gogoi said. The concerns were echoed by CPI(M) MP John Brittas, who also urged the PM Modi to address the Parliament on both the Pahalgam attack and Trump's ceasefire claims, which he says merit urgent clarification.
