The 3M Open returns to Minnesota for a seventh season this week. TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, a 7,431-yard track, is the host venue. It was one of the many golf courses designed by Arnold Palmer.
The 3M is the second-to-last PGA Tour event of the regular season. It's therefore one of the last chances for golfers vying for a top-70 spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs standings.
Jhonattan Vegas returns as the defending champion. There are a slew of golfers around the top-70 cutoff in the 3M field, including Emiliano Grillo, Keith Mitchell, Erik van Rooyen, Kevin Roy, Davis Thompson, Ben An and Matti Schmid.
3M and the PGA Tour announced in February a five-year extension of the title sponsorship through 2030.

Rickie Fowler's status unclear ahead of 3M Open tee time Thursday

Rickie Fowler's attempt to bounce back from a missed cut at The Open now hinges on his readiness for the 3M Open in Minnesota. The veteran golfer is scheduled to tee it up on Thursday morning at TPC Twin Cities, but questions about his health linger after a mid-tournament withdrawal just days ago. Fowler bowed out of the WM Phoenix Open before the second round last week, citing illness. He had opened with a tough 3-over 74 and made headlines more for his camo attire than his performance. His early exit came quietly, and the PGA Tour confirmed he would not return for Round 2, where he was slated to play with Billy Horschel and Sahith Theegala. This wasn't an isolated struggle. Since winning the Phoenix Open in 2019, Fowler has missed the cut or withdrawn in four of his last five appearances at the event. Now, all eyes are on Minnesota, where he's grouped with Tony Finau and Taylor Pendrith. Fowler is scheduled to begin his opening round at 8:29 a.m. ET, then follow with an afternoon tee time Friday at 1:54 p.m. ET. The 3M Open is one of the final chances to rack up FedEx Cup points before the playoffs begin. Though still a fan favorite and one of golf's most recognizable faces, his recent form and health concerns make his 3M Open status a major storyline. Whether he can shake off the illness and find momentum late in the season remains to be seen. But with the regular season clock winding down, there's little time left for misfires. The real reason Bryson DeChambeau has a new (old) caddie this week and what it means

Bryson DeChambeau has a familiar face on the bag this week at LIV Golf UK outside of London in Tim Tucker. But don't read too much into it about DeChambeau joining the current trend of players making caddie changes. DeChambeau's caddie, Greg Bodine, is receiving a scheduled week off to avoid a three-week international stretch away from his wife and kids. 'He gives me a week or two off a year to avoid three weeks in a row internationally,' Bodine told Golfweek last week at the British Open. 'I had India and will have the UK off. Sixteen out of 18 weeks is perfect for me.' This isn't the first time that Tucker has filled in for Bodine, either. He did so at LIV's London event in 2023 after the British Open at Liverpool, too. DeChambeau is in a busy stretch (for him) of playing LIV Golf Spain at Valderrama, the 153rd Open in Northern Ireland and this week's LIV UK event, which starts Friday. DeChambeau is one of the hardest-working players, known to shut down a range well after darkness and demands the same commitment from his caddie. His willingness to give Bodine an off week paints him as an understanding and reasonable boss. 'I have a wife and a couple of kids back home so if I can go three weeks without being gone that long it's nice that Tim can step in and Bryson's given me a week or two break here or there,' Bodine said. Tucker, who previously caddied for DeChambeau for nearly five years including during his first U.S. Open title in 2020, split with DeChambeau in June 2021 on the eve of the Rocket Classic, where he was the defending champion. At the time, Tucker said he left to focus on his luxury shuttle service at Bandon Dunes but he was lured back to caddying on the PGA Tour. He had been on the bag of Kurt Kitayama, including when he won his lone Tour title at the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Tucker last worked for Kitayama at the John Deere Classic, where he finished T-4. Kitayama was in the field at last week's Barracuda Championship and had his older brother, Daniel, on the bag, and was expected to have his brother working for him again this week at the 3M Open. Tucker confirmed via text that they had parted ways and that he was simply spelling Bodine this week. He added, 'then I will see what opportunities there are in the caddie world.' Tucker isn't the only caddie reuniting with a former bagman. Paul Tesori, who caddied for Webb Simpson for more than a decade including at the 2012 U.S. Open, will be back on the bag for his old boss at the 3M Open. Tesori, who split last month with Tom Kim, posted on social media that he, too, would be back for one week and one week only. "Reunited and it feels so good," he wrote.

Gotterup Surging, Finau Searching As FedExCup Stakes Rise At 3M Open

(Photo by Mike Egerton/PA Images via Getty Images) The pro golf world may still be basking in the afterglow of Scottie Scheffler's bravura fourth major victory, but while fans pause to reflect on whether the current world No. 1 may be echoing Tiger in his prime, the tour has pressed onto Minnesota for the 3M Open. With only two events to go in the regular season, the stakes are elevated at TPC Twin Cities as players battle to improve their position in the FedExCup standings. For those hovering around the bubble, the margins are as thin as Scotch Tape and there's way more on the line than simply a share of the 3M Open's $8.4 million purse. The top 70 after next week's Wyndham Championship advance to the FedExCup Playoffs. Golfers who finish in the top 50 in the standings after the FedEx St. Jude move on to the BMW Championship and from there only the top 30 will be left standing and go on to East Lake in Atlanta for the Tour Championship. Beyond the immediate postseason horizon, to secure spots in next year's lucrative signature events, players must stick inside the top 50 when the season is in the bag. Otherwise, they'll need to punch their ticket via the Aon Next 10, Aon Swing 5, or else hold onto the hope of a sponsor's exemption. (Photo by) Tony Finau is tied with Xander Schauffele for the longest active streak of Tour Championship appearances with eight straight East Lake appearances. But the Utah native isn't quite on solid footing to extend his run to nine. The six-time PGA winner, who topped the leaderboard here in 2022, finds himself perched at 59th in the standings, inside the top 70 but still shy of that all-important top 50 cutoff, so he's got work to do. 'It's definitely in the back of my mind because I know how important that top-50 number has become on the PGA Tour,' Finau said in his pre-tournament press conference. 'I'm trying to put myself in a situation to have a chance to win on Sunday this week and if I'm able to do that, then I know the points and everything will take care of themselves,' he added. Gotterup Rising You don't have to scroll too far back on the calendar to the days when Chris Gotterup wasn't on most golf fans' radar. Sure, he'd won the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic last year—an opposite-field event—but his sophomore season on the PGA Tour had been more steady than spectacular. He notched nine top-25 finishes, offset by just as many missed cuts. But then cue up Born To Run. Gotterup vaulted 55 spots in the FedExCup standings in the space of a fortnight, outdueling Rory McIlroy to win the Scottish Open and showing he had staying power by coming in third in the Open Championship. No one would begrudge the New Jerseyan if he took a week off after his cross-the-pond breakout, but Gotterup wants to keep the pedal to the metal. 'I'm trying to ride the hot hand obviously right now, so that's goal No. 1.,' Gotterup said. '3M gave me a spot a couple years ago when I came out of school and I felt like I kind of owe a little something back to them. I was planning on playing but that definitely helped,' he added. Now firmly inside the top 30 in the FedExCup standings, Gotterup is navigating uncharted territory—and embracing the moment. 'I feel like I'm playing with house money at the moment, especially with what's happened. I'm excited for the rest of the season.'
