Four simple tricks to make using your paddling pool cheaper this summer
But with the holidays and water restrictions looming, you needn't splash too much cash to cool off. With a few simple tricks you can keep the fun cheaper and going for longer . . .
7
FILLED UP: With hosepipe bans in place across parts of the country, you'll want to avoid refilling as much as possible. Instead keep the water cleaner by popping a washing up bowl with warm water beside the pool to act as a foot bath before kids jump in.
And pop a cover over your pool when not in use to stop flies and debris landing in it. You can create one out of an old sheet. — a dark sheet can also help keep the water warm.
Help keep the water free from bacteria for a couple of days by using Milton sterilising liquid or tablets.
WARM UP: Even on a hot day, the pool can feel icy cold if you fill it up from the outside tap.
Rather than faffing around with kettles and boiling water, there is an easier and cheaper solution.
Simply place black bin liners over or in the water. The black bags will absorb the heat from the sun and warm the water within an hour.
AVOID A PUNCTURE: The laughs will quickly turn to tears if your inflatable pool gets a puncture.
Pop an old blanket or towel under the base before filling up to help protect it from little stones that could pierce the plastic. If you have dogs getting in and out the pool, consider popping an old towel across the bottom to protect it from claws.
If your pool does get torn, you don't need to chuck it. You can get a repair kit for £4.99 online from Robert Dyas.
MAKE USE: You don't need to wait for a scorching day to use the pool.
When it is not hot, inflate smaller pools and fill with small plastic or foam balls to create a ball pit.
Or you could even use it for some messy play with slime or jelly.

Dunelm's 'vibrant' and 'super comfy' garden chairs reduced to £50
The loungers are reduced in a deal that makes each seat cost just over £24. When the weather gets dry and warm again, people will be eager to do one thing - make the most of it. For many, basking in the warm weather is the ultimate way to unwind during the summer - but you'll need proper seating to do it comfortably. Most probably snapped up garden furniture at the start of the season to make the most of recent scorching spells. However, if you missed out - or simply fancy upgrading your current outdoor seating - Dunelm has slashed prices on a pair of "vibrant" colourful loungers, promising "optimal comfort." The Helsinki Loungers are now available as a twin pack for £48.50, reduced from £69, meaning each seat works out at just over £24, reports the Mirror. This duo deal comes in exclusive colours - navy blue and lilypad green - that are unavailable when purchasing individual chairs. Dunelm wrote that these low-maintenance loungers"redefine outdoor comfort" thanks to adjustable backrests that allow for personalised reclining angles. Made from robust materials built to endure the elements, these loungers "promise longevity without compromising on style or comfort," according to Dunelm. Alternative options are available elsewhere for those seeking a quick solution to their garden seating needs - including the Folding Metal Zero Gravity Sun Lounger (Argos, £45) or the Colorado Grey Metal Sun Lounger (B&Q, £35 down from £50). But, hundreds of customers have shared rave reviews online after purchasing the Dunelm garden set. One said: "Lovely comfy reclining chairs, I actually fell asleep in them!" Another added: "Great value and lovely colour. Sturdy, easy to assemble and store. Very comfy to sit in too!" A third wrote: "Sturdy, easy to set up and super comfy. Perfect colour to go with our garden décor too (true to ad pictures), and they don't take a ton of space when folded away in the garage. At that price for a pair, you can't go wrong with these!" However, a few customers encountered problems, with one claiming: "The cords that hold the seats to the frame are fraying heavily and have broken in several places. They are now unusable." Meanwhile, another suggested: "Very comfortable chairs although a little fiddly to open." Someone else pointed out: "The knobs that make them recline are plastic and so seem a bit fragile so not sure how long they will last. Also one of the chairs seems to very slowly go back to upright position, so have to keep adjusting it." Nevertheless, most reviews were glowing. One customer who gave five stars commented: "Love these loungers - easy to fold and unfold, very comfortable. The green goes beautifully in my garden." Another buyer posted: "Great design and very sturdy. Easy to use and move around the garden." Whilst someone else wrote: "The loungers are great, they are exactly the colour I wanted, comfortable and easy to use and no self assembly required and a great price."

Dunelm shoppers say 'it's easy to fall asleep' in £50 garden chair set
People who bought the seats said 'you can't go wrong with these' with their comfort and easy set-up When the rain does clear up, Brits will want to take full advantage of the summer weather and enjoy some time in the garden. For some, relaxing in the sunshine is their idea of a perfect day - but you need some suitable chairs. Most people likely bought items at the beginning of the season to make the most of the recent heatwaves. But, if people didn't - or simply need to revamp their existing seats, then Dunelm has a reduction on a set of "vibrant" colourful loungers that offer "optimal comfort." The Helsinki Loungers are available in twin bundles for £48.50, down from £69, in a deal that makes each seat cost just over £24. The set of two deal comes in two colours that aren't available if buying the same style of chair separately: navy blue and lilypad green. Dunelm claims that these low-maintenance loungers"redefine outdoor comfort" with adjustable backrests allowing for personalised reclining positions. Made with durable materials designed to withstand outdoor conditions, these loungers "promise longevity without compromising on style or comfort," Dunelm adds. There are alternatives for anyone looking for a quick solution to garden seating - such as the Folding Metal Zero Gravity Sun Lounger (Argos, £45) or the Colorado Grey Metal Sun Lounger (B&Q, £35 down from £50). However, hundreds of shoppers posted glowing reviews online after ordering the Dunelm garden set. One said: "Lovely comfy reclining chairs, I actually fell asleep in them!" A few had some issues, though, as one claimed: "The cords that hold the seats to the frame are fraying heavily and have broken in several places. They are now unusable." And, another suggested: "Very comfortable chairs although a little fiddly to open." Someone else put: "The knobs that make them recline are plastic and so seem a bit fragile so not sure how long they will last. Also one of the chairs seems to very slowly go back to upright position, so have to keep adjusting it." However, the majority of feedback was positive. A satisfied shopper who awarded five stars in their review put: "Love these loungers - easy to fold and unfold, very comfortable. The green goes beautifully in my garden." Best-selling insulated water bottle that 'blows the Stanley away' now just £18
'Really pleased with this bottle, such lovely colours. Good size, keeps water cold all day even when in my car.' In order to stay fit and healthy, it is important that you stay hydrated. This is especially crucial if you take part in a range of physical activities such as hiking or frequently going to the gym. To help meet your water intake goals, it is important to have a go-to insulated bottle that can keep your drink cool throughout the day. One of the most popular water bottles on the market is the Stanley, which features a massive 1.2L capacity. While it has been bought by over 2,000 in the last month on Amazon alone, this travel mug does come with a hefty price tag that not everyone can easily splurge on. For those looking for a new water bottle but are on a budget, we have found one on Amazon that customers say 'blows the Stanley away'. Normally retailing for £21.99, shoppers can currently snap up the BottleBottle Insulated Water Bottle for £18.96 in a limited-time deal. Available in a variety of fun and quirky designs as well as individual colours, this water bottle boasts a 700ml capacity and features a leak-proof lid that comes with a straw and handle. This simple design allows users to easily carry the bottle throughout the day without the fear that its contents will spill everywhere if knocked over. Equipped with double-wall vacuum insulation, this water bottle is able to keep your liquids icy cold for up to 24 hours and your hot drinks warm for 12 hours. It is advised that the bottle be hand washed, but it can be used in a dishwasher if needed - without the lid. BottleBottle Insulated Water Bottle £21.99 £18.69 Amazon Buy Now on Amazon Product Description The bottle also comes with an extra straw and a cleaner for added convenience, as well as a silicone bottom pad to prevent it from slipping. Whether taken to the gym, school or for travelling, this 700ml bottle is perfect for a variety of occasions and is sure to keep you hydrated throughout the day. However, for those who do want to get their hands on a Stanley, Amazon has dropped the price of the STANLEY Quencher H2.0 Flowstate Tumbler in a cream design down from £45 to £29.99. However, if shoppers want a different design they will need to splash a bit more cash. Alternatively, Argos is selling the Sistema Hydrate Multicolour Stainless Steel Bottle. With a 1L capacity, this water bottle is made with a high quality stainless steel so it won't rust over time. However, it should be noted that shoppers won't be able to choose which colour of bottle they get, which could be a fun surprise. Back to the BottleBottle, it currently has a 4.5 star rating from over 5,000 Amazon shoppers, with over 700 people snapping one up in the last month. One delighted reviewer even said it is the 'best water bottle' they have ever had. One happy shopper wrote: "This is a brilliant bottle. I have had a Stanley which was ok but this blows the Stanley away. I work in a garden centre and it's very hot in warm weather. I put ice in with my drink and it was still there after 7hrs,the Stanley's are very quick to warm up to room temperature. This is the bottle I will be buying in future." With another five-star reviewer adding: "I owned a Stanley cup before that was spilling all the water and was so huge. This bottle bottle is perfectly fitting my sport bag, non-spill and looks cute!" However, one shopper left a mixed review, stating: "Lovely bottle, came with an extra straw and is very easy to clean. Keeps drinks cool all day and the handle is very useful to carry it around with. The only downside I've experienced, much like other reviews, is that it marks very easily on the outside, such a shame as the design is lovely." While another noted some minor gripes: "Only slightly annoying things are that the lid can be a bit difficult to grip to unscrew and the handle is easily knocked out of place when open. Easily fixed but just not as sturdy a handle as could be." Despite this, a top reviewer gushed: "Really pleased with this bottle, such lovely colours. Good size, keeps water cold all day even when in my car. Love the fact had two straws supplied and small brush for cleaning and small carry handle on it as well." While a sixth customer commented: "Best water bottle I have ever had! Stays cool or hot depending on what I've put in it! The design is handy and it doesn't leak! I love the mouthpiece on the bottle and the handle. And the colour is super cute! Very happy!" To buy the BottleBottle Insulated Water Bottle, click HERE. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
