With one fight left on contract, Eryk Anders maps out retirement plan after UFC on ESPN 72

USA Today5 days ago
Eryk Anders wants the final fight on his UFC contract to be a sendoff at home.
Anders (17-7 MMA, 9-8 UFC) meets Christian Leroy Duncan (11-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) at UFC on ESPN 72 on Aug. 9 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. He'll have one more fight left on his contract after that, and he wants it to be a special one.
The 38-year-old plans on hanging up his gloves once his UFC contract is up and has two locations in mind – Noche UFC on Sept. 13 or the UFC's annual pay-per-view event in November.
"They're going to San Antonio, that's my hometown, so that would be like a dream come true," Anders told MMA Junkie Radio. "That's the last fight on my contract and my 20th fight, and I'd be good retiring after that, and that's the plan anyway.
"But if not there, then I was supposed to fight in Madison Square Garden last year against Weidman but got sick, couldn't fight, doctors pulled me from the fight, then we fought in Vegas. Madison Square is like the mecca for combat sports. Big boxing bouts, UFC fights have happened there, so I definitely want to fight there. If I can make that happen and that would be my last fight, then we're off to the sunset."
Anders explains how his financial situation has allowed him not to feel obligated to stay very active.
"I got a lot of other things going on, so I don't have to fight," Anders said. "I enjoy fighting, I love fighting, but I'm trying to move in other avenues. I used to like press the UFC to fight. 'I want to fight, I want to fight, I want to fight.' But now, I can take my time in between fights. I'm getting ready to open up a gym in September. I'm doing all this stuff now to get that going, so I have other things occupying my mind and time."

Dana White's Wild Story; His Kid's Ear Was ‘Ripped off' While Watching Cormier Fight

While UFC CEO Dana White has seen some horrifying injuries inside the Octagon, it seems the worst he's ever encountered came in a frantic call from his wife after their daughter suffered a gruesome injury. Even when White is Octagon side at a UFC event, his job never stops. He is the head of a billion-dollar company. And he can often be seen talking or texting about business while at fights. That is why during a recent chat with Candy Funhouse, he was asked what was the craziest call he has ever gotten during an event. And surprisingly, the worst of them all had nothing to do with his day job. 'I think we were in Texas. And it was a Cormier fight. I don't remember who he was fighting. But my daughter was really young, and the dog that we had at the time ripped her ear off,' White revealed. 'As you could imagine, my wife was losing her mind, and everybody was freaking out. How many kids does Dana White have? Three (Dana III, Aidan, and Savannah) 'So I ran over and grabbed [Chief Medical Director] Dr. Jeff Davidson, and we started making calls. Got a plastic surgeon. And not only did the dog rip her ear off, but it ripped her ear in half too,' he added. 'So my wife had to pick up her ear, go to the friggin hospital, and have her ear sewn back on. That is definitely the craziest call I've ever had.' Since he didn't say his daughter Savannah lost her ear, one can assume that his wife jumping into quick action and getting to the right surgeon, saved their offspring's ear. It is also likely that the pet received a permanent knockout from the UFC boss following the incident. White and his wife Anne have three children. Sons Dana III, Aidan, and Savannah. 'LokDog' drops mic after UFC 318: Vinicius Oliveira releases rap song

Vinicius Oliveira quite literally dropped the mic after his UFC 318 win. "LokDog" isn't just a fighter. He's a rapper, too. One day after his victory over Kyler Phillips in New Orleans, Oliveira (23-3 MMA, 4-0 UFC) dropped a new single "Fenomenal" featuring Brazilian rapper B-Dynamitze. Coinciding with the song was a new music video, which features "LokDog" in the gym sparring, lifting – and spitting. Oliveira's discography includes five singles, according to his Spotify artist account. His debut "Ande Como um Rei" dropped in 2023 followed by "Perdendo a Conquista." In 2024 he released "Cerre os Punhos" and "Conquistando o Impossivel." To go with his five singles, Oliveira has four UFC wins to date. He's won six fights in a row and 12 of his most recent 13. His unanimous decision win over Phillips () was his most high-profile to date, and likely aligns him for a top-10 matchup next. Regardless of who, when, or where he fights next, "LokDog" will remain one of the division's biggest personalities. If you don't believe it, look no further than the above music video. Ryan Spann says first heavyweight win at UFC 318 'almost surreal'

NEW ORLEANS – Ryan Spann rebounded emphatically for his first heavyweight win. Spann (23-11 MMA, 9-6 UFC) submitted Lukasz Brzeski (9-7-1 MMA, 1-6 UFC) with a guillotine choke in the first round of Saturday's UFC 318 prelims at Smoothie King Center. Spann is relieved after his heavyweight debut didn't go his way, where he was knocked out by Waldo Cortes-Acosta in March. "I guess it's almost surreal because coach T.J., Charles, and coach Sayif, they basically walk me through the whole thing," Spann told reporters during his post-fight news conference. "That was 100 percent the coach's call (on heavyweight move). I just show up. I'm the bullet. I just do whatever. I'm going to be ready whatever weight." So does that mean Spann would consider a move back down to light heavyweight? "I have the blueprint for both so, it doesn't really matter," Spann said. "I'm not saying that (heavyweight being a permanent move). We'll see." The 33-year-old explained how adjustments resulted in a much more successful outcome in his second appearance at heavyweight. "Honestly I felt like the heavyweight debut was just me getting on the scale, thinking that I didn't have to weigh in," Spann said. "So, the last three weeks of that was atrocious. I wanted to make sure we finished, we executed. Big part of the game plan, we wanted to finish and execute. Tonight was the final preparation."
